Job 21

1 Then Job said in reply:	1 Rispose Iob, e disse:
2 At least listen to my words, and let that be the consolation you offer.	2 Io v' addomando che voi udiate li miei sermoni, e facciate penitenza.
3 Bear with me while I speak; and after I have spoken, you can mock!	3 Sostenete me, acciò ch' io favelli; e dopo le mie parole, se vi parerà, ridete.
4 Is my complaint toward man? And why should I not be impatient?	4 Or (non) è contro all' uomo la mia disputazione, acciò che per merito non mi debba contristare?
5 Look at me and be astonished, put your hands over your mouths.	5 Attendete a me, e maravigliatevi, e ponete lo dito sopra la bocca vostra.
6 When I think of it, I am dismayed, and horror takes hold on my flesh.	6 E io, quando me ne ricorderò, comincio a temere, e percuote lo tremore la mia carne.
7 Why do the wicked survive, grow old, become mighty in power?	7 Adunque perchè vivono i malvagi, sollevati sono e confortati colle ricchezze?
8 Their progeny is secure in their sight; they see before them their kinsfolk and their offspring.	8 Lo seme loro permane innanzi a loro; la turba de' propinqui e de' nepoti (loro) nel cospetto loro sono.
9 Their homes are safe and without fear, nor is the scourge of God upon them.	9 Le case loro sono sicure e umiliate, e non è la verga di Dio sopra loro.
10 Their bulls gender without fail; their cows calve and do not miscarry.	10 Lo bue loro concepette, e non disperse; la vacca partorì, e non è privata del suo parto.
11 These folk have infants numerous as lambs, and their children dance.	11 Vanno, sì come le gregge, li loro figliuoli; e li fanciulli loro si rallegrano con le lusinghe.
12 They sing to the timbrel and harp, and make merry to the sound of the flute.	12 Tengono lo timpano e le chitarre, e rallegransi allo suono degli organi.
13 They live out their days in prosperity, and tranquilly go down to the nether world.	13 Menano in bene li loro dì, e in uno punto all' inferno discendono,
14 Yet they say to God, "Depart from us, for we have no wish to learn your ways!	14 coloro che dicono a Dio: pàrtiti da noi, e la scienza delle tue vie non vogliamo.
15 What is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what gain shall we have if we pray to him?"	15 Chi è lo Onnipotente, che serviamo a lui? Che fa prode a noi, se oreremo a lui?
16 If their happiness is not in their own hands and if the counsel of the wicked is repulsive to God,	16 Ma pertanto, perciò che non sono nelle sue mani li suoi beni, lo consiglio de' malvagi sia dalla lunga da me.
17 How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? How often does destruction come upon them, the portion he allots in his anger?	17 Quante volte la lucerna delli malvagi sarae spenta, e la inondazione sopraverrae a loro, e li dolori divideranno li loro furori?
18 Let them be like straw before the wind, and like chaff which the storm snatches away!	18 Saranno sì come paglia dinanzi alla faccia del vento, e sì come favilla la qual il vento sparge..
19 May God not store up the man's misery for his children; let him requite the man himself so that he feels it,	19 Iddio serba alli loro figliuoli lo dolore del padre; e quando ritornerà, allora lo saperà.
20 Let his own eyes see the calamity, and the wrath of the Almighty let him drink!	20 Vedranno gli occhii suoi la uccisione sua, e del furore dell' Onnipotente berà.
21 For what interest has he in his family after him, when the number of his months is finished?	21 Che adunque a lui s' appartiene della casa sua dopo sè? e se lo numero delli mesi suoi sarà ammezzato?
22 Can anyone teach God knowledge, seeing that he judges those on high?	22 Or saravvi alcuno che vogli ammaestrare Iddio in scienza, il quale giudica le creature superiori?
23 One dies in his full vigor, wholly at ease and content;	23 Questo muore robusto e sano, ricco e bene avventurato.
24 His figure is full and nourished, and his bones are rich in marrow.	24 Le budella sue sono piene di grasso, e l'ossa sue sono bagnate delle midolla.
25 Another dies in bitterness of soul, having never tasted happiness.	25 Ma l'altro muore nella amaritudine dell' anima sua senza quelle dolcezze.
26 Alike they lie down in the dust, and worms cover them both.	26 E pure insieme nella polvere dormiranno,
27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the arguments you rehearse against me.	27 Certo io hoe conosciuto li vostri pensieri, e le sentenze contro a me malvagie.
28 For you say, "Where is the house of the magnate, and where the dwelling place of the wicked?"	28 E certo voi dite: dov'è la casa del principe? e dove sono li tabernacoli delli malvagi?
29 Have you not asked the wayfarers and do you not recognize their monuments?	29 Addomandate ciascuno delli viandanti, questa medesima cosa intenderete lui conoscere.
30 Nay, the evil man is spared calamity when it comes;	30 Perciò che nel dì della perdizione sarae servato lo rio, e al di del furore sarae menato.
31 Who will charge him with his conduct to his face, and for what he has done who will repay him?	31 Chi reprenderà dinanzi a lui la sua via? e chi renderae (dinanzi) a lui quello ch' elli fece?
32 and on the day he is carried to the grave	32 Alli sepolcri sarae menato, e nella dannazione delli morti vegghierae.
33 Sweet to him are the clods of the valley, and over him the funeral mound keeps watch, While all the line of mankind follows him, and the countless others who have gone before.	33 Dolce fue la giara del fiume infernale, e dopo sè ogni uomo trarrae, e innanzi a sè senza numero.
34 How then can you offer me vain comfort, while in your answers perfidy remains?	34 Come adunque consolate me indarno, conciosia cosa che sia dimostrato che la vostra risposta contrasta alla veritade?
