Job 15

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite spoke and said:	1 Rispose Elifaz Temanite, e disse:
2 Should a wise man answer with airy opinions, or puff himself up with wind?	2 Or non risponderà lo savio, favellante quasi come uno vento, ed empierà di ardore lo stomaco suo?
3 Should he argue in speech which does not avail, and in words which are to no profit?	3 E tu riprendi colle parole colui che non è uguale a te, e favelli quello che non ti si conviene.
4 You in fact do away with piety, and you lessen devotion toward God,	4 Quanto in te è, cacciasti fuori lo timore, e offeristi le preghiere dinanzi a Dio.
5 Because your wickedness instructs your mouth, and you choose to speak like the crafty.	5 E la iniquità ammaestrò la tua bocca, e sèguiti la lingua delli biastematori.
6 Your own mouth condemns you, not I; you own lips refute you.	6 E condannerà te la tua bocca, e non io; e li tuoi labbri risponderanno a te.
7 Are you indeed the first-born of mankind, or were you brought forth before the hills?	7 Or se' tu nato lo primo uomo, e innanzi che li colli se' tu formato?
8 Are you privy to the counsels of God, and do you restrict wisdom to yourself?	8 Or hai tu udito lo consiglio di Dio, e più di sotto sarà la sua sapienza, che tu?
9 What do you know that we do not know? What intelligence have you which we have not?	9 Che hai conosciuto, che noi non sappiamo? che intendi, che noi non lo intendiamo?
10 There are gray-haired old men among us more advanced in years than your father.	10 E vecchi e antichi sono tra noi, molto più vecchi che li padri tuoi.
11 Are the consolations of God not enough for you, and speech that deals gently with you?	11 Or non è grande cosa, che consoli Iddio te? Ma le tue parole ree vietano questo.
12 Why do your notions carry you away, and why do your eyes blink,	12 Ma perchè il tuo cuore leva te, e quasi pensante le grandi cose, tu hai gli occhi angosciosi?
13 So that you turn your anger against God and let such words escape your mouth!	13 Perchè s' enfia lo spirito tuo contro a Dio, acciò che tu proferi del cuore queste medesime parole?
14 What is a man that he should be blameless, one born of woman that he should be righteous?	14 Che è l'uomo, che sia senza macola, e sì come giusto paia nato della femina?
15 If in his holy ones God places no confidence, and if the heavens are not clean in his sight,	15 Ecco intra li santi niuno è immutabile, e li cieli non sono mondi dinanzi a lui,
16 How much less so is the abominable, the corrupt: man, who drinks in iniquity like water!	16 Quanto maggiormente è abbominevole, e non è utile, l'uomo che beve sì come l'acqua la iniquitade?
17 I will show you, if you listen to me; what I have seen I will tell--	17 Io te la mostrerò; odi me; quello ch' io viddi, lo ti narreroe.
18 What wise men relate and have not contradicted since the days of their fathers,	18 Li savii confessano, e non ascondono li loro. padri.
19 To whom alone the land was given, when no foreigner moved among them.	19 A' quali solo data è la terra, e non trapasserae uno alieno per loro.
20 The wicked man is in torment all his days, and limited years are in store for the tyrant;	20 In tutti li suoi dì lo malvagio insuperbisce, e non è certo dello numero delli anni della sua tiranneria.
21 The sound of terrors is in his ears; when all is prosperous, the spoiler comes upon him.	21 Lo suono della paura sempre è nelle orecchie sue; e quando egli è pace, colui teme d'insidie, ed è in sospicione.
22 He despairs of escaping the darkness, and looks ever for the sword;	22 E non crede che ritornare possa delle tenebre a luce, aspettando d'ogni parte lo coltello.
23 A wanderer, food for the vultures, he knows that his destruction is imminent.	23 Quando egli muoverae sè a chiedere lo pane, conobbe che nella mano sua apparecchiato è lo dì delle tenebre.
24 By day the darkness fills him with dread; distress and anguish overpower him.	24 Spaventerae lui la tribulazione, e l'angoscia circonderà lui, sì come lo re che si apparecchia alla battaglia.
25 Because he has stretched out his hand against God and bade defiance to the Almighty,	25 Certo ello dirizzò contro a Dio la sua mano, e contro all' Onnipotente s'è fortificato.
26 One shall rush sternly upon him with the stout bosses of his shield, like a king prepared for the charge.	26 Corse contro a lui con lo collo ritto, e con grassa testa s'è armato.
27 Because he has blinded himself with his crassness, padding his loins with fat,	27 E coprì la faccia sua di grassezza, e delli lati suoi l'arvina dipende.
28 He shall dwell in ruinous cities, in houses that are deserted, That are crumbling into clay	28 Abiterà nelle cittadi sconsolate e nelle case deserte, le quali in modo di sepolcro sono ridotte.
29 with no shadow to lengthen over the ground. He shall not be rich, and his possessions shall not endure;	29 Non sarae arricchito, e non persevererae la sostanza sua, nè non manderà in terra la sua radice.
30 A flame shall wither him up in his early growth, and with the wind his blossoms shall disappear.	30 Nè non si partirà dalle tenebre; li rami suoi si seccheranno per la fiamma, e sarà tolto per lo spirito della bocca sua.
31 for vain shall be his bartering.	31 Non creda indarno, ingannato per errore, che per prezzo sia da essere ricomperato.
32 His stalk shall wither before its time, and his branches shall be green no more.	32 Innanzi che li di suoi s' empino, perirae; e la mano sua sì si seccherae.
33 He shall be like a vine that sheds its grapes unripened, and like an olive tree casting off its bloom.	33 Rallegrisi, sì come vigna nel primo fiore, lo granello suo, e sì come oliva che getta lo suo fiore..
34 For the breed of the impious shall be sterile, and fire shall consume the tents of extortioners.	34 Però che lo raunamento delli ipocriti è senza frutto; e lo fuoco divorerà lo tabernacolo loro, li quali volontieri li doni ricevono.
35 They conceive malice and bring forth emptiness; they give birth to failure.	35 Concepette dolore, e partorì la iniquitade; e lo ventre suo apparecchia li inganni.
