Job 14

1 Man born of woman is short-lived and full of trouble,	1 L'uomo nato della femina, vivente breve tempo, è ripieno di molte miserie.
2 Like a flower that springs up and fades, swift as a shadow that does not abide.	2 Il quale come fiore viene, e conculcato è; fugge sì come ombra, e non rimane mai in uno medesimo stato.
3 Upon such a one will you cast your eyes so as to bring him into judgment before you,	3 E pensi esser cosa degna di aprire sopra cotal cosa gli occhii tuoi, e menarlo teco nel giudicio?
4 Can a man be found who is clean of defilement? There is none,	4 Chi puote fare la cosa monda, concetta del non mondo seme? Or non sei tu quello solo?
5 however short his days. You know the number of his months; you have fixed the limit which he cannot pass.	5 Brevi sono li di dell' uomo; lo numero delli mesi suoi è appresso te; e ordinasti li termini suoi, li quali non si poteranno trapassare.
6 Look away from him and let him be, while, like a hireling, he completes his day.	6 Pàrtiti uno poco da lui, acciò ch' elli istia in riposo, insino che venghi il dì desiderato, e sì come del mercenaio siano li dì suoi.
7 For a tree there is hope, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again and that its tender shoots will not cease.	7 Lo legno ha speranza; se tagliato e' sarà, da capo si fa verde, e li rami suoi mettono li rampolli.
8 Even though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the dust,	8 Se invecchierà nella terra la sua radice, e nella polvere morto sarà lo suo broccone,
9 Yet at the first whiff of water it may flourish again and put forth branches like a young plant.	9 all' odore dell' acque germinerae, e farae la moltitudine de' rami, quasi come di prima piantato era.
10 But when a man dies, all vigor leaves him; when man expires, where then is he?	10 Ma l' uomo, quando è morto, e sarae spogliato e consumato, domandatene, vi priego: dove lui è?
11 As when the waters of a lake fail, or a stream grows dry and parches,	11 E come se si partissono l'acque del mare, e lo fiume fatto vôto si secca,
12 So men lie down and rise not again. Till the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.	12 così l'uomo, quando morrà, non risusciterà; insino che il cielo sia attrito, non si sveglierae, nè non si leverae dal suo sonno.
13 Oh, that you would hide me in the nether world and keep me sheltered till your wrath is past; would fix a time for me, and then remember me!	13 Chi mi darà questo, che in inferno tu mi difendi e nascondimi, infino che trapassi lo tuo furore, e òrdinimi il tempo nel quale tu ti ricordi di me?
14 When a man has died, were he to live again, all the days of my drudgery I would wait, until my relief should come.	14 E pensi tu, che morto l'uomo, un' altra volta viva? tutti i dì, ne' quali io ora cavalco, aspetto insino a tanto che venga la mia immutazione.
15 You would call, and I would answer you; you would esteem the work of your hands.	15 Chiamerae me, e io risponderò a te; allo lavorio delle tue mani porgerai la tua mano diritta.
16 Surely then you would count my steps, and not keep watch for sin in me.	16 In veritade li andamenti miei annumerasti, ma perdona alli peccati miei.
17 My misdeeds would be sealed up in a pouch, and you would cover over my guilt.	17 Segnasti quasi come nel sacculo li peccati miei, ma curasti la mia iniquitade.
18 But as a mountain falls at last and its rock is moved from its place,	18 Lo monte cadente scorrerà, e lo sasso sarà trasportato del suo luogo.
19 As waters wear away the stones and floods wash away the soil of the land, so you destroy the hope of man.	19 Le acque cavano le pietre, e per la innondanza dell' acque a poco a poco la terra è consumata; e adunque li uomini similmente perderai.
20 You prevail once for all against him and he passes on; with changed appearance you send him away.	20 Fortificastilo uno poco, acciò che in perpetuo trapassasse; e immuterai la faccia sua, e manderai lui.
21 If his sons are honored, he is not aware of it; if they are in disgrace, he does not know about them.	21 Ovvero se saranno nobili i suoi figliuoli, ovvero non nobili, non intenderà.
22 Only his own flesh pains him, and his soul grieves for him.	22 Ma pure la carne sua, insino che viverà, sì dorrà; e l'anima sua sopra sè medesimo piangerà (sempre).
