1 "These are the rules you shall lay before them.	1 "Estas são as leis que exporás {aos israelitas}:
2 When you purchase a Hebrew slave, he is to serve you for six years, but in the seventh year he shall be given his freedom without cost.	2 quando comprares um escravo hebreu, ele servirá seis anos; no sétimo sairá livre, sem pagar nada.
3 If he comes into service alone, he shall leave alone; if he comes with a wife, his wife shall leave with him.	3 Se entrou sozinho, sozinho sairá; se tiver mulher, sua mulher partirá com ele.
4 But if his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall remain the master's property and the man shall leave alone.	4 Mas, se foi o seu senhor que lhe deu uma mulher, e esta deu à luz filhos e filhas, a mulher e seus filhos serão propriedade do senhor, e ele partirá sozinho.
5 If, however, the slave declares, 'I am devoted to my master and my wife and children; I will not go free,'	5 Porém, se o escravo disser: ?Eu amo meu senhor, minha mulher e meus filhos; não quero ser alforriado?,
6 his master shall bring him to God and there, at the door or doorpost, he shall pierce his ear with an awl, thus keeping him as his slave forever.	6 seu senhor o levará então diante de Deus e o fará aproximar-se do batente ou da ombreira da porta, e furar-lhe-á a orelha com uma sovela; desta sorte o escravo estará para sempre a seu serviço.
7 "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go free as male slaves do.	7 Se um homem tiver vendido sua filha para ser escrava, ela não sairá em liberdade nas mesmas condições que o escravo.
8 But if her master, who had destined her for himself, dislikes her, he shall let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to a foreigner, since he has broken faith with her.	8 Se desagradar ao seu senhor, que a havia destinado para si, ele a fará resgatar; mas não poderá vendê-la a estrangeiros depois de lhe ter sido infiel.
9 If he destines her for his son, he shall treat her like a daughter.	9 Se a destinar ao seu filho, tratá-la-á segundo o direito das filhas.
10 If he takes another wife, he shall not withhold her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.	10 Se tomar outra mulher, não diminuirá nada à primeira, quanto à alimentação, aos vestidos e ao direito conjugal.
11 If he does not grant her these three things, she shall be given her freedom absolutely, without cost to her.	11 Se lhe recusar uma destas três coisas, ela poderá partir livre, gratuitamente, sem pagar nada."
12 "Whoever strikes a man a mortal blow must be put to death.	12 "Aquele que ferir mortalmente um homem, será morto.
13 He, however, who did not hunt a man down, but caused his death by an act of God, may flee to a place which I will set apart for this purpose.	13 Porém, se nada premeditou, e Deus o fez cair em suas mãos, eu lhe fixarei um lugar onde possa refugiar-se.
14 But when a man kills another after maliciously scheming to do so, you must take him even from my altar and put him to death.	14 Mas, se alguém, por maldade, armar ciladas para matar o seu próximo, tirá-lo-ás até mesmo do meu altar, para matá-lo.
15 Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.	15 Aquele que ferir seu pai ou sua mãe, será morto.
16 "A kidnaper, whether he sells his victim or still has him when caught, shall be put to death.	16 Aquele que furtar um homem, e o tiver vendido, ou se este for encontrado em suas mãos, será morto.
17 "Whoever curses his father or mother shall be put to death.	17 Quem amaldiçoar seu pai ou sua mãe, será punido de morte.
18 "When men quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, not mortally, but enough to put him in bed,	18 Quando, em uma contenda entre dois homens, um dos dois ferir o outro com uma pedra ou com o punho, sem matá-lo, mas o obrigar a ficar de cama,
19 the one who struck the blow shall be acquitted, provided the other can get up and walk around with the help of his staff. Still, he must compensate him for his enforced idleness and provide for his complete cure.	19 aquele que feriu não será punido, se o outro se levantar e puder passear fora com seu bastão. Mas indenizá-lo-á pelo tempo que perdeu e os remédios que gastou.
20 "When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished.	20 Se um homem ferir seu escravo ou sua escrava com um bastão, de modo que ele morra sob sua mão, será punido.
21 If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.	21 Se o escravo, porém, sobreviver um dia ou dois, não será punido, porque ele é propriedade do seu senhor.
22 "When men have a fight and hurt a pregnant woman, so that she suffers a miscarriage, but no further injury, the guilty one shall be fined as much as the woman's husband demands of him, and he shall pay in the presence of the judges.	22 Se homens brigarem, e acontecer que venham a ferir uma mulher grávida, e esta der à luz sem nenhum dano, eles serão passíveis de uma indenização imposta pelo marido da mulher, e que pagarão diante dos juízes.
23 But if injury ensues, you shall give life for life,	23 Mas, se houver outros danos, urge dar vida por vida,
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,	24 olho por olho, dente por dente, mão por mão, pé por pé,
25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.	25 queimadura por queimadura, ferida por ferida, golpe por golpe.
26 "When a man strikes his male or female slave in the eye and destroys the use of the eye, he shall let the slave go free in compensation for the eye.	26 Se um homem, ferindo seu escravo ou sua escrava, atinge-lhe o olho e o faz perdê-lo, deixá-lo-á ir livre em compensação de seu olho.
27 If he knocks out a tooth of his male or female slave, he shall let the slave go free in compensation for the tooth.	27 E, se lhe deitar fora um dente, deixá-lo-á ir livre em compensação do dente.
28 "When an ox gores a man or a woman to death, the ox must be stoned; its flesh may not be eaten. The owner of the ox, however, shall go unpunished.	28 Se um boi ferir mortalmente um homem ou uma mulher com as pontas dos chifres, será apedrejado e não se comerá a sua carne; mas o dono do boi não será punido.
29 But if an ox was previously in the habit of goring people and its owner, though warned, would not keep it in; should it then kill a man or a woman, not only must the ox be stoned, but its owner also must be put to death.	29 Porém, se o boi era já acostumado a dar chifradas, e o dono, tendo sido avisado, não o vigiou, o boi será apedrejado, se matar um homem ou uma mulher, e seu dono também morrerá.
30 If, however, a fine is imposed on him, he must pay in ransom for his life whatever amount is imposed on him.	30 Se, para resgatar sua vida, lhe for imposta uma quitação, ele deverá dar todo o preço que lhe tiver sido imposto.
31 This law applies if it is a boy or a girl that the ox gores.	31 Se o boi ferir um filho ou uma filha, aplicar-se-á a mesma lei.
32 But if it is a male or a female slave that it gores, he must pay the owner of the slave thirty shekels of silver, and the ox must be stoned.	32 Mas, se ferir um escravo ou uma escrava, pagar-se-á ao seu senhor trinta siclos de prata, e o boi será apedrejado.
33 "When a man uncovers or digs a cistern and does not cover it over again, should an ox or an ass fall into it,	33 Se alguém deixar uma cisterna aberta ou cavar uma sem cobri-la, e nela cair um boi ou um jumento, o proprietário da cisterna pagará uma indenização:
34 the owner of the cistern must make good by restoring the value of the animal to its owner; the dead animal, however, he may keep.	34 reembolsará em dinheiro o proprietário do animal morto, e este será seu.
35 "When one man's ox hurts another's ox so badly that it dies, they shall sell the live ox and divide this money as well as the dead animal equally between them.	35 Se o boi de alguém der uma chifrada no boi de um outro, e este vier a morrer, venderão o boi vivo e repartirão o valor: repartirão igualmente o boi morto.
36 But if it was known that the ox was previously in the habit of goring and its owner would not keep it in, he must make full restitution, an ox for an ox; but the dead animal he may keep. (v 37) "When a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for the one ox, and four sheep for the one sheep.	36 Mas, se o boi era já acostumado a dar chifradas, seu dono, que não o vigiou, pagará boi por boi, e receberá o animal morto."
