NEW AMERICAN BIBLEBIBLES DES PEUPLES
After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them; and he took Gath and its towns away from the control of the Philistines.1 Après cela, David battit les Philistins et les soumit.
He also defeated Moab, and the Moabites became his subjects, paying tribute.2 Il vainquit aussi les Moabites: ils devinrent les sujets de David et lui payèrent l’impôt.
David then defeated Hadadezer, king of Zobah toward Hamath, when the latter was on his way to set up his victory stele at the river Euphrates.3 David battit à Hamat Hadadézer, roi de Soba, alors qu’il cherchait à soumettre les régions de l’Euphrate.
David took from him twenty thousand foot soldiers, one thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen. Of the chariot horses, David hamstrung all but one hundred.4 David captura un millier de chars, 7 000 cavaliers et 20 000 soldats d’infanterie.
The Arameans of Damascus came to the aid of Hadadezer, king of Zobah, but David also slew twenty-two thousand of their men.5 Les Araméens de Damas vinrent à l’aide de Hadadézer, roi de Soba, mais David tua 22 000 hommes aux Araméens.
Then David set up garrisons in the Damascus region of Aram, and the Arameans became his subjects, paying tribute. Thus the LORD made David victorious in all his campaigns.6 Puis David installa des gouverneurs à Aram de Damas; les Araméens furent soumis à David et lui payèrent le tribut.
David took the golden shields that were carried by Hadadezer's attendants and brought them to Jerusalem.7 David s’empara des boucliers d’or des gardes de Hadadézer et les emporta à Jérusalem.
He likewise took away from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, large quantities of bronze, which Solomon later used to make the bronze sea and the pillars and the vessels of bronze.8 De Tibhat et de Koun, villes qui appartenaient à Hadadézer, David prit une grande quantité de bronze dont Salomon allait faire la Mer d’Airain, les colonnes et les ustensiles du Temple.
When Tou, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, king of Zobah,9 Lorsque Toou, roi de Hamat, apprit que David avait vaincu toute l’armée de Hadadézer, roi de Soba,
he sent his son Hadoram to wish King David well and to congratulate him on having waged a victorious war against Hadadezer; for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou.
These also King David consecrated to the LORD along with all the silver and gold that he had taken from the nations: from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.11 Le roi David les consacra à Yahvé en même temps que les objets d’argent et d’or qu’il avait rapportés de toutes les nations: d’Édom, de Moab, des Ammonites, des Philistins, d’Amalec.
Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, also slew eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.12 David se rendit célèbre lorsqu’il revint d’avoir battu 18 000 Édomites dans la vallée du Sel.
He set up garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David's subjects. Thus the LORD made David victorious in all his campaigns.13 Il imposa des gouverneurs à Édom, et tous les Édomites furent soumis à David.
David reigned over all Israel and dispensed justice and right to all his people.14 David régnait sur tout Israël; il rendait la justice et défendait les droits de son peuple.
Joab, son of Zeruiah, was in command of the army; Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was herald;15 Joab fils de Sérouya, commandait l’armée; Yochafat fils d’Ahiloud était le porte-parole;
Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests; Shavsha was scribe;16 Sadoq fils d’Ahitoub, et Ahimélek fils d’Ébyatar étaient prêtres; Chavcha était scribe;
Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was in command of the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were the chief assistants to the king.17 Bénayas fils de Yoyada, commandait aux Kérétiens et aux Pélétiens.
