1 Non parlare temerariamente, e il tuo cuore non corra a furia a far parola di Dio; perocché Dio è nel cielo, e tu sulla terra: per questo siano ristretti i tuoi discorsi.	1 Be in no hurry to speak; do not hastily declare yourself before God; for God is in heaven, you on earth.Be sparing, then, of speech:
2 Alle molte cure van dietro i sogni, e nel molto discorrere, si trova stoltezza.	2 From too much worrying comes illusion, from too much talking, the accents of fol y.
3 Se hai fatto a Dio qualche voto, non ritardarne l'adempimento; imperocché dispiace a lui la stolta, e la infedele promessa, ma tu eseguisci quello che hai promesso con voto:	3 If you make a vow to God, discharge it without delay, for God has no love for fools. Discharge your vow.
4 E meglio il non far voti, che mancare dopo fatto il voto a quello che s'è promesso.	4 Better a vow unmade than made and not discharged.
5 Non impiegare la tua parola a far peccare la tua carne, e non dire dinanzi all'Angelo: provvidenza non è, affinchè non avvenga, che Dio sdegnato del tuo parlare, tutte distrugga le opere delle tue mani.	5 Do not al ow your mouth to make a sinner of you, and do not say to the messenger that it was amistake. Why give God occasion to be angry with you and ruin al the work that you have done?
6 Dove son molti sogni, vi sono moltissime vanità, e chiacchiere inutili: ma tu abbi il timor di Dio.	6 From too many illusions come futility and too much talk. Therefore, fear God.
7 Se vedrai oppressi i miserabili, e corrotti i giudizj, e violata la giustizia nel paese, non turbarti per questo; perché colui, che sta in posto sublime ha un altro, che gli soprasta: e questi, pure hanno altri, che sono al di sopra di essi,	7 If in a province you see the poor oppressed, fair judgement and justice violated, do not be surprised, forover every official there watches a higher official, and over these, higher officials stil .
8 E di più havvi il re, che comanda atutta la terra, che a lui è soggetta.	8 But what the land yields is for the benefit of al , a king is served by the fields.
9 L'avaro non si sazierà mai di far denaro, e chi ama le ricchezze non ne caverà nessun frutto. Anche questa adunque è vanità.	9 No one who loves money ever has enough, no one who loves luxury has any income; this, too, is futile.
10 Dove sono molte ricchezze, vi sono anche molti a mangiarne. E che altro ne viene al possessore se non di vedere co' suoi occhi molte ricchezze?	10 Where goods abound, parasites abound: where is the owner's profit, apart from feasting his eyes?
11 Dolce è il sonno al bracciante, o poco, o molto, ch'ei mangi: ma la ripienezza non lascia dormire il ricco.	11 The labourer's sleep is sweet, whether he has eaten little or much, but the surfeit of the rich wil not lethim sleep at al .
12 Havvi anche un'altra dolorosissima miseria, ch'io vidi sotto del sole: le ricchezze accumulate per ruina del loro padrone.	12 Something grossly unjust I observe under the sun: riches stored and turning to loss for their owner.
13 Perocché elle vanno in fumo con afflizione terribile. Egli ha messo al mondo un figliuolo, che sarà in somma miseria.	13 An unlucky venture, and those riches are lost; a son is born to him, and he has nothing to leave him.
14 Egli che nudo usci dal sen della madre, nudo se n'anderà, e nulla porterà seco di sue fatiche.	14 Naked from his mother's womb he came; as naked as he came wil he depart; not one of hisachievements can he take with him.
15 Miseria al certo compassionevole. Qual egli venne, tal partirà. Che giova adunque a lui l'essersi affaticato a raccorre del vento?	15 And something else grossly unjust: that as he came, so must he go; what profit can he show aftertoiling to earn the wind,
16 Per tutti i giorni di sua vita egli mangiò il suo pane al buio tra molte sollecitudini, nella meschinità, e malinconia.	16 as he spends the rest of his days in darkness, mourning, many sorrows, sickness and exasperation.
17 Io pertanto ho creduto esser ben fatto, che uno mangi, e beva, e goda il frutto delle fatiche, ch'ei sopporta sotto del sole per tutti i giorni di sua vita assegnatigli da Dio: e questo è tutto quello, che gli tocca.	17 So my conclusion is this: true happiness lies in eating and drinking and enjoying whatever has beenachieved under the sun, throughout the life given by God: for this is the lot of humanity.
18 E quando Dio di ad un uomo ricchezze, e beni, e gli da facoltà di mangiarne, e di goderne la sua porzione, e di trar questo frutto di sue fatiche, questo è dono di Dio.	18 And whenever God gives someone riches and property, with the ability to enjoy them and to findcontentment in work, this is a gift from God.
19 Perocché egli non molto si accorgerà dei giorni di sua vita, perché Dio gli tiene il cuore contento.	19 For such a person wil hardly notice the passing of time, so long as God keeps his heart occupied withjoy.
