LXXDOUAI-RHEIMS
και ως ηκουσαν οι εν τοις σκηνωμασιν οντες εξεστησαν επι το γεγονος1 And when all the army heard that Holofernes was beheaded, courage and counsel fled from them, and being seized with trembling and fear they thought only to save themselves by flight:
και επεπεσεν επ' αυτους τρομος και φοβος και ουκ ην ανθρωπος μενων κατα προσωπον του πλησιον ετι αλλ' εκχυθεντες ομοθυμαδον εφευγον επι πασαν οδον του πεδιου και της ορεινης2 So that no one spoke to his neighbor, but hanging down the head, leaving all things behind, they made haste to escape from the Hebrews, who, as they heard, were coming armed upon them, and fled by the ways of the fields, and the paths of the hills.
και οι παρεμβεβληκοτες εν τη ορεινη κυκλω βαιτυλουα και ετραπησαν εις φυγην και τοτε οι υιοι ισραηλ πας ανηρ πολεμιστης εξ αυτων εξεχυθησαν επ' αυτους3 So the children of Israel seeing them fleeing, followed after them. And they went down sounding with trumpets and shouting after them.
και απεστειλεν οζιας εις βαιτομασθαιμ και βηβαι και χωβαι και κωλα και εις παν οριον ισραηλ τους απαγγελλοντας υπερ των συντετελεσμενων και ινα παντες επεκχυθωσιν τοις πολεμιοις εις την αναιρεσιν αυτων4 And because the Assyrians were not united together, they went without order in their flight ; but the children of Israel pursuing in one body, defeated all that they could find.
ως δε ηκουσαν οι υιοι ισραηλ παντες ομοθυμαδον επεπεσον επ' αυτους και εκοπτον αυτους εως χωβα ωσαυτως δε και οι εξ ιερουσαλημ παρεγενηθησαν και εκ πασης της ορεινης ανηγγειλαν γαρ αυτοις τα γεγονοτα τη παρεμβολη των εχθρων αυτων και οι εν γαλααδ και οι εν τη γαλιλαια υπερεκερασαν αυτους πληγη μεγαλη εως ου παρηλθον δαμασκον και τα ορια αυτης5 And Ozias sent messengers through all the cities and countries of Israel.
οι δε λοιποι οι κατοικουντες βαιτυλουα επεπεσαν τη παρεμβολη ασσουρ και επρονομευσαν αυτους και επλουτησαν σφοδρα6 And every country, and every city, sent their chosen young men armed after them, and they pursued them with the edge of the sword until they came to the extremities of their confines.
οι δε υιοι ισραηλ αναστρεψαντες απο της κοπης εκυριευσαν των λοιπων και αι κωμαι και επαυλεις εν τη ορεινη και πεδινη εκρατησαν πολλων λαφυρων ην γαρ πληθος πολυ σφοδρα7 And the rest that were in Bethulia went into the camp of the Assyrians, and took away the spoils, which the Assyrians in their flight had left behind them, and they were laden exceedingly.
και ιωακιμ ο ιερευς ο μεγας και η γερουσια των υιων ισραηλ οι κατοικουντες εν ιερουσαλημ ηλθον του θεασασθαι τα αγαθα α εποιησεν κυριος τω ισραηλ και του ιδειν την ιουδιθ και λαλησαι μετ' αυτης ειρηνην8 But they that returned conquerors to Bethulia, brought with them all things that were theirs, so that there was no numbering of their cattle, and beasts, and all their moveables, insomuch that from the least to the greatest all were made rich by their spoils.
ως δε εισηλθον προς αυτην ευλογησαν αυτην παντες ομοθυμαδον και ειπαν προς αυτην συ υψωμα ιερουσαλημ συ γαυριαμα μεγα του ισραηλ συ καυχημα μεγα του γενους ημων9 And Joachim the high priest came from Jerusalem to Bethulia with all his ancients to see Judith.
εποιησας ταυτα παντα εν χειρι σου εποιησας τα αγαθα μετα ισραηλ και ευδοκησεν επ' αυτοις ο θεος ευλογημενη γινου παρα τω παντοκρατορι κυριω εις τον αιωνα χρονον και ειπεν πας ο λαος γενοιτο10 And when she was come out to him, they all blessed her with one voice, saying: Thou art the glory of Jerusalem, thou art the joy of Israel, thou art the honour of our people:
και ελαφυρευσεν πας ο λαος την παρεμβολην εφ' ημερας τριακοντα και εδωκαν τη ιουδιθ την σκηνην ολοφερνου και παντα τα αργυρωματα και τας κλινας και τα ολκεια και παντα τα κατασκευασματα αυτου και λαβουσα αυτη επεθηκεν επι την ημιονον αυτης και εζευξεν τας αμαξας αυτης και εσωρευσεν αυτα επ' αυτων11 For thou hast done manfully, and thy heart has been strengthened, because thou hast loved chastity, and after thy husband hast not known any other: therefore also the hand of the Lord hath strengthened thee, and therefore thou shalt be blessed for ever.
και συνεδραμεν πασα γυνη ισραηλ του ιδειν αυτην και ευλογησαν αυτην και εποιησαν αυτη χορον εξ αυτων και ελαβεν θυρσους εν ταις χερσιν αυτης και εδωκεν ταις γυναιξιν ταις μετ' αυτης12 And all the people said: So be it, so be it
και εστεφανωσαντο την ελαιαν αυτη και αι μετ' αυτης και προηλθεν παντος του λαου εν χορεια ηγουμενη πασων των γυναικων και ηκολουθει πας ανηρ ισραηλ ενωπλισμενοι μετα στεφανων και υμνουν εν τω στοματι αυτων13 And thirty days were scarce sufficient for the people of Israel to gather up the spoils of the Assyrians.
και εξηρχεν ιουδιθ την εξομολογησιν ταυτην εν παντι ισραηλ και υπερεφωνει πας ο λαος την αινεσιν ταυτην14 But all those things that were proved to be the peculiar goods of Holofernes, they gave to Judith in gold, and silver, and garments and precious stones, and all household stuff, and they all were delivered to her by the people.
And all the people rejoiced, with the women, and virgins, and young men, playing on instruments and harps.
