Joshua 3

1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.	1 E Giosuè, alzatosi avanti giorno, levò il campo. Partiti da Setim, egli e tutti i figli d'Israele arrivarono al Giordano,ove si fermarono tre giorni.
2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;	2 Alla fine dei quali, gli araldi percorsero il campo
3 And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.	3 a gridare: « Quando vedrete l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore Dio vostro, portata dai sacerdoti della stirpe di Levi, partite anche voi e seguiteli;
4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.	4 ma fra voi e l'arca vi sia un intervallo di duemila cubiti, affinchè possiate vedere dalontano e distinguere la strada per la quale dovete camminare, non essendovi mai passati; e badate di non avvicinarvi all'arca ».
5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.	5 E Giosuè disse al popolo: « Santificatevi, perchè domani il Signore farà tra voi delle maraviglie ».
6 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.	6 E disse ai sacerdoti: « Prendete l'arca dell'alleanza e andate innanzi al popolo ». Ed essi, ese guendo gli ordini, la presero e camminarono avanti al popolo.
7 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.	7 E il Signore disse a Giosuè: « Oggi comincierò ad esaltarti dinanzi a tutto Israele, per far conoscere che sono con te come fui con Mosè.
8 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.	8 Ai sacerdoti che portano l'arca dell'alleanza dà quest'ordine: Appena sarete entrati dell'acqua del Giordano, fermatevi dentro l'acqua ».
9 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.	9 Poi Giosuè disse ai figli d'Israele: « Accostatevi a sentire la parola del Signore Dio vostro ».
10 And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.	10 E disse: « Da questo conoscerete che il Signore, il Dio vivente, è in mezzo a voi e disperdederà dinanzi a voi il Cananeo, l'Eteo, l'Eveo, il Ferezeo, il Gergeseo, il Gebuseo, l'Amorreo.
11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.	11 Ecco, l'arca del Signore di tutta la terra passerà davanti a voi attraverso il Giordano.
12 Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.	12 Preparate dodici uomini fra le tribù d'Israele, uno per tribù.
13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.	13 E quando i sacerdoti, che portan l'arca del Signore Dio di tutta la terra, avran messe le piante dei loro piedi nelle acque del Giordano, le acque che vanno in giù seguiteranno a scorrere e se ne andranno, ma quelle che vengon di sopra si fermeranno ammassate ».
14 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;	14 Or quando il popolo uscì dalle sue tende per passare il Giordano, i sacerdoti, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza, camminavano davanti a lui.
15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)	15 E appena essi entrarono nel Giordano e misero piedi nell'acqua (allora il Giordano era pieno fino all'orlo delle ripe, essendo i tempo della messe),
16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.	16 le acque che scendevano di sopra si fermarodo in un sol luogo, e, alzandosi come un monte, apparivano da lontano, dalla città detta Adom fino al luogo di Sartan; e quelli che andavano in giù seguitarono verso il mare del deserto (detto ora dar Morto) e spariron del tutto.
17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.	17 Mentre il popolo traversava per andare a Gerico, i sacerdoti, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, stavan ritti sopra la terra asciutta nel mezzo del Giordano; e tutto il popolo passò per il letto disseccato.
