1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.	1 “Apprenez donc quelque chose du Royaume des Cieux. Un propriétaire est sorti à la première heure du jour afin d’embaucher des travailleurs pour sa vigne.
2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.	2 Il se met d’accord avec les travailleurs pour un denier par jour et il les envoie à sa vigne.
3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,	3 “Dans la matinée il en voit d’autres qui sont là sur la place sans rien faire,
4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.	4 et il leur dit: ‘Allez vous aussi à la vigne et je vous donnerai ce qui sera juste.’
5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.	5 Aussitôt ils y vont. Le propriétaire sort de nouveau à midi, puis dans l’après-midi, et il agit de la même façon.
6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?	6 “À la tombée du jour - c’était la onzième heure, il sort et il en trouve qui sont là assis. Il leur dit: ‘Pourquoi restez-vous là toute la journée sans rien faire?’
7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.	7 Eux lui répondent: ‘C’est que personne ne nous a embauchés.’ Et il leur dit: ‘Allez donc vous aussi à la vigne.’
8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.	8 “Le soir venu, le propriétaire de la vigne dit à son intendant: ‘Appelle les ouvriers et donne-leur leur salaire; tu commenceras par les derniers et tu continueras jusqu’aux premiers.’
9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.	9 “Ceux qui ont été embauchés à la onzième heure se présentent donc les premiers; ils reçoivent un denier.
10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.	10 Quand les premiers arrivés se présentent à leur tour, ils pensent qu’ils vont recevoir davantage, mais eux aussi reçoivent un denier.
11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,	11 “Pendant qu’on les paie, ils protestent contre le propriétaire:
12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.	12 ‘Ces derniers, disent-ils, n’ont fait qu’une heure, et tu les mets sur le même plan que nous qui avons travaillé toute une journée au soleil.’
13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?	13 “Il réplique à l’un d’eux: ‘Mon ami, je ne suis pas injuste avec toi. Nous étions d’accord pour un denier, n’est-ce pas?
14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.	14 Prends ce qui te revient et va-t’en. Moi je veux donner à ce dernier autant qu’à toi.
15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?	15 N’ai-je pas le droit de faire chez moi ce que je veux? Serait-ce que tu es envieux parce que moi je suis bon?’
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.	16 “Oui, les derniers seront premiers, et les premiers, derniers.”
17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,	17 Quand Jésus était sur la route de Jérusalem, il prit à part les Douze et, tout en marchant, il leur dit:
18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,	18 "Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem; le Fils de l’Homme va être livré aux chefs des prêtres et aux maîtres de la Loi qui le condamneront à mort.
19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.	19 Ils le remettront aux étrangers qui vont l’humilier, le fouetter et le mettre en croix. Mais il ressuscitera le troisième jour.”
20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.	20 À ce moment la mère des fils de Zébédée vint trouver Jésus avec ses fils et elle se prosterna pour lui demander une faveur.
21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.	21 Jésus lui dit: "Que veux-tu?” Elle lui dit: "Tu as là mes deux fils. Ordonne que dans ton royaume ils siègent l’un à ta droite et l’autre à ta gauche.”
22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.	22 Jésus répondit: "Vous ne savez pas ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire la coupe que je dois boire?” Ils dirent: "Oui, nous le pouvons.”
23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.	23 Jésus leur dit: "Vous boirez donc à ma coupe. Mais de siéger à ma droite et à ma gauche, ce n’est pas à moi de le donner; ce sera pour ceux à qui mon Père l’a destiné.”
24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.	24 En entendant cela, les dix autres étaient indignés contre les deux frères.
25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.	25 Jésus les appela et leur dit: "Vous savez que les chefs des nations païennes se conduisent en dictateurs, et leurs grands personnages abusent de leur autorité.
26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;	26 Cela ne devra pas être chez vous. Si l’un d’entre vous veut être grand, qu’il se fasse votre serviteur,
27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:	27 et si l’un d’entre vous veut être le premier, qu’il soit votre esclave,
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.	28 tout comme le Fils de l’Homme qui n’est pas venu pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner sa vie en rançon pour la multitude.”
29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.	29 Comme ils sortaient de Jéricho, beaucoup de gens les accompagnaient.
30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.	30 Or voici que deux aveugles étaient assis sur le bord du chemin. Quand ils apprirent que Jésus passait, ils crièrent: "Aie pitié de nous, Seigneur, fils de David!”
31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.	31 Et comme les gens leur disaient de se taire, ils criaient encore plus fort: "Seigneur, fils de David, aie pitié de nous!”
32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?	32 Jésus s’arrêta et les appela. Il leur demanda: "Que voulez-vous que je fasse pour vous?”
33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.	33 Ils répondirent: "Seigneur, que nos yeux s’ouvrent!”
34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.	34 Jésus eut pitié d’eux et toucha leurs yeux. Aussitôt ils purent voir, et ils marchèrent à sa suite.
