1 And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.	1 Accortosi della morte, Giuseppe si gettò sulla faccia del padre, piangendo e baciandolo,
2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.	2 poi ordinò ai medici suoi servi di imbalsamare il padre.
3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.	3 A imbalsamarlo impiegarono quaranta giorni, come usavasi riguardo ai cadaveri imbalsamati; e l'Egitto lo pianse settanta giorni.
4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,	4 Finito poi il tempo del lutto, Giuseppe disse alla famiglia di Faraone: « Se io ho trovato grazia dinanzi a voi, fate giungere agli orecchi di Faraone
5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.	5 che mio padre, facendomi giurare, mi ha detto: Ecco, io muoio, seppelliscimi nel mio sepolcro che mi scavai nella terra di Canaan. Andrò adunque a seppellire mio padre, e tornerò ».
6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.	6 E Faraone rispose: « Va pure a seppellire tuo padre come promettesti con giuramento ».
7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,	7 Allora Giuseppe andò, e con lui andarono tutti gli anziani della casa di Faraone e tutti i principali della terra d'Egitto;
8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.	8 e la casa di Giuseppe coi suoi fratelli, eccetto i fanciulli, i greggi e gli armenti, che lasciarono nella terra di Gessen.
9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.	9 Fu pure accompagnato da carri e da cavalieri, e così il corteo fu numerosissimo.
10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.	10 Or giunti all'aia di Atad,che è al di là del Giordano, vi si fermarono sette giorni a celebrare il funerale, con duolo grande e profondo.
11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.	11 Avendo ciò osservato gli abitatori di Canaan, dissero: « Questo è un lutto grave per gli Egiziani ». E per questo quel luogo fu chiamato il Duolo dell'Egitto.
12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:	12 Poi i figli di Giacobbe, facendo come egli aveva loro comandato,
13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.	13 lo portarono nella terra di Canaan, e lo seppellirono nella doppia caverna, dirimpetto a Mambre, che Abramo aveva insieme al campo comprata da Efron Eteo per farne un sepolcro di sua proprietà.
14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.	14 E Giuseppe, sepolto che fu il padre, tornò in Egitto coi suoi fratelli e con tutto il suo seguito.
15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.	15 Morto il padre, i fratelli di Giuseppe con timore dicevano tra di loro: « Chi sa che egli non si ricordi dell'ingiuria sofferta e non ci renda tutto il male che gli abbiamo fatto? »
16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,	16 E quindi mandarono a dirgli: « Il tuo padre, prima di morire, ci comandò
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.	17 che a nome suo ti dicessimo: Dimentica, ti prego, il delitto dei tuoi fratelli, e il peccato e la malizia che ebbero contro di te: e noi pure ti preghiamo di perdonare tale iniquità ti servi del Dio di tuo padre ». Udite queste parole, Giuseppe pianse.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.	18 Allora i suoi fratelli andarono a trovarlo e prostrati bocconi per terra dissero: « Noi siamo i tuoi servi».
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?	19 Ma egli rispose loro: « Non temete. Possiamo forse resistere al volere di Dio?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.	20 Voi, è vero, faceste dei cattivi disegni contro di me, ma Dio li converti in bene per esaltarmi, come vedete che succede, e per salvare molti popoli.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.	21 Non temete: io nutrirò voi e i vostri figlioli ». E li consolò, parlando loro con dolcezza e mansuetudine.
22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.	22 Giuseppe dimorò in Egitto con tutta la famiglia di suo padre; e visse cento dieci anni. E vide i figli di Efraim fino alla terza generazione. Anche i figli di Machir, figlio di Manasse, furon posti sulle ginocchia di Giuseppe.
23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.	23 Finalmente Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: « Dio vi visiterà dopo la mia morte, e vi farà salire da questa terra a quella promessa con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe ».
24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.	24 E fattili giurare, dicendo: « Quando Dio vi visiterà, portate con voi le mie ossa »
25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.	25 Mori in età di cento dieci anni. E, imbalsamato, fu riposto in una cassa in Egitto.
26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
