1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.	1 Abraham married another wife, whose name was Keturah.
2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.	2 She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
3 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.	3 Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. The descendants of Dedan were the Asshurim, the Letushim, and the Leummim.
4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.	4 The descendants of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All of these were descendants of Keturah.
5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.	5 Abraham deeded everything that he owned to his son Isaac.
6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.	6 To his sons by concubinage, however, he made grants while he was still living, as he sent them away eastward, to the land of Kedem, away from his son Isaac.
7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.	7 The whole span of Abraham's life was one hundred and seventy-five years.
8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.	8 Then he breathed his last, dying at a ripe old age, grown old after a full life; and he was taken to his kinsmen.
9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;	9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, son of Zohar the Hittite, which faces Mamre,
10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.	10 the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites; there he was buried next to his wife Sarah.
11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi.	11 After the death of Abraham, God blessed his son Isaac, who made his home near Beer-lahai-roi.
12 Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham:	12 These are the descendants of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's slave, bore to Abraham.
13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,	13 These are the names of Ishmael's sons, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth (Ishmael's firstborn), Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
14 And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,	14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:	15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.	16 These are the sons of Ishmael, their names by their villages and encampments; twelve chieftains of as many tribal groups.
17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people.	17 The span of Ishmael's life was one hundred and thirty-seven years. After he had breathed his last and died, he was taken to his kinsmen.
18 And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren.	18 The Ishmaelites ranged from Havilah-by-Shur, which is on the border of Egypt, all the way to Asshur; and each of them pitched camp in opposition to his various kinsmen.
19 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac:	19 This is the family history of Isaac, son of Abraham; Abraham had begotten Isaac.
20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.	20 Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Aramean.
21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.	21 Isaac entreated the LORD on behalf of his wife, since she was sterile. The LORD heard his entreaty, and Rebekah became pregnant.
22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD.	22 But the children in her womb jostled each other so much that she exclaimed, "If this is to be so, what good will it do me!" She went to consult the LORD,
23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.	23 and he answered her: "Two nations are in your womb, two peoples are quarreling while still within you; But one shall surpass the other, and the older shall serve the younger."
24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.	24 When the time of her delivery came, there were twins in her womb.
25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.	25 The first to emerge was reddish, and his whole body was like a hairy mantle; so they named him Esau.
26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.	26 His brother came out next, gripping Esau's heel; so they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.
27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.	27 As the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man who lived in the open; whereas Jacob was a simple man, who kept to his tents.
28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.	28 Isaac preferred Esau, because he was fond of game; but Rebekah preferred Jacob.
29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:	29 Once, when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the open, famished.
30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.	30 He said to Jacob, "Let me gulp down some of that red stuff; I'm starving." (That is why he was called Edom.)
31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.	31 But Jacob replied, "First give me your birthright in exchange for it."
32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?	32 "Look," said Esau, "I'm on the point of dying. What good will any birthright do me?"
33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.	33 But Jacob insisted, "Swear to me first!" So he sold Jacob his birthright under oath.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.	34 Jacob then gave him some bread and the lentil stew; and Esau ate, drank, got up, and went his way. Esau cared little for his birthright.
