KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Az első hónapban aztán eljutottak Izrael fiai az egész közösséggel együtt a Szín-pusztába és Kádesben telepedett meg a nép. Ott meghalt Mirjám és ugyanott el is temették.	1 The Israelites, the whole community, arrived in the first month at the desert of Zin. The people settledat Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.
2 Mivel pedig nem volt vize a népnek, egybegyűltek Mózes és Áron ellen,	2 There was no water for the community, so they banded together against Moses and Aaron.
3 s pörölni kezdtek és azt mondták: »Bárcsak elvesztünk volna akkor, amikor testvéreink, az Úr színe előtt!	3 The people laid the blame on Moses. 'We would rather have died', they said, 'as our brothers diedbefore Yahweh!
4 Miért hoztátok ki az Úr gyülekezetét ebbe a pusztába, hogy meghaljunk mi is, jószágaink is?	4 Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this desert, for us and our livestock to die here?
5 Miért hoztatok fel minket Egyiptomból, s vezettetek erre a felette rossz helyre, amelyet bevetni nem lehet, amely nem terem sem fügét, sem szőlőt, sem gránátalmát, sőt még csak ivóvize sincsen?«	5 Why did you lead us out of Egypt, only to bring us to this wretched place? It is a place unfit forsowing, it has no figs, no vines, no pomegranates, and there is not even water to drink!'
6 Erre Mózes és Áron otthagyták a közösséget és bementek a szövetség sátrába, s arcukkal a földre borultak, és megjelent nekik az Úr dicsősége.	6 Leaving the assembly, Moses and Aaron went to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. They threwthemselves on their faces, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.
7 Az Úr így szólt Mózeshez:	7 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
8 »Vedd a botot és gyűjtsd egybe, te, meg Áron bátyád, a népet és szóljatok előttük a sziklának, s az vizet fog adni. Ha aztán így vizet fakasztottál a sziklából, ihat az egész közösség és jószága.«	8 'Take the branch and call the community together, you and your brother Aaron. Then, in full view ofthem, order this rock to release its water. You wil release water from the rock for them and provide drink for thecommunity and their livestock.'
9 Fogta tehát Mózes az Úr színe előtt levő botot, amint parancsolta neki,	9 Moses took up the branch from before Yahweh, as he had directed him.
10 s egybegyűjtötte a népet a szikla elé, és azt mondta nekik: »Halljátok, ti lázadók s hitetlenek! Fogunk-e tudni vizet fakasztani nektek ebből a sziklából?«	10 Moses and Aaron then cal ed the assembly together in front of the rock. He then said to them,'Listen now, you rebels. Shall we make water gush from this rock for you?'
11 Azzal felemelte Mózes a kezét, ráütött kétszer a bottal a sziklára és bőséges víz fakadt, úgy, hogy ihatott a nép és jószága.	11 Moses then raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the branch; water gushed out inabundance, and the community and their livestock drank.
12 Azt mondta erre az Úr Mózesnek és Áronnak: »Mivel nem hittetek nekem, s így nem bizonyítottatok engem szentnek Izrael fiai előtt, nem viszitek be a népet arra a földre, amelyet nekik adok.« –	12 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not believe that I could assert my holinessbefore the Israelites' eyes, you wil not lead this assembly into the country which I am giving them.'
13 Ez a Pörölés-vize: ott pöröltek Izrael fiai az Úr ellen, s ő ott bizonyította be rajtuk szentségét.	13 These were the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites laid the blame on Yahweh and where, bytheir means, he asserted his holiness.
14 Közben Mózes követeket küldött Kádesből Edom királyához, hogy mondják neki: »Ezt üzeni testvéred, Izrael. Tudod mindazt a viszontagságot, amely minket ért,	14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh: 'To the king of Edom. Your brother Israel says this: You areaware of the great hardships we have encountered.
15 hogy miképpen mentek le atyáink Egyiptomba, hogy ott hosszú ideig laktunk, hogy az egyiptomiak nyomorgattak minket s atyáinkat,	15 Our ancestors went down to Egypt and there we stayed for a long time. But the Egyptians treated usbadly, as they had our ancestors.
16 s hogy miképpen kiáltottunk az Úrhoz, s hogy ő meghallgatott minket, s angyalt küldött, aki kihozott minket Egyiptomból. Íme, itt vagyunk Kádes városában, amely határod szélén van,	16 When we appealed to Yahweh, he heard our cry and, sending an angel, brought us out of Egypt,and here we are, now, at Kadesh, a town on the borders of your territory.
17 s kérünk, hadd vonulhassunk át földeden. Nem megyünk át sem szántón, sem szőlőn, kútjaidból nem iszunk vizet, csakis az országúton megyünk, s nem térünk le sem jobbra, sem balra, míg át nem vonulunk területeden.«	17 We ask permission to pass through your country. We shall not go through the fields or vineyards; weshall not drink the water from the wel s; we shal keep to the king's highway without turning to right or left until wehave passed through your territory.'
18 Azt felelte neki Edom: »Nem vonulsz át rajtam, különben fegyveresen szállok szembe veled.«	18 To which, Edom replied, 'You wil not pass through my country; if you do, I shal oppose you by forceof arms.'
19 Azt mondták erre Izrael fiai: »A járt úton megyünk, s ha iszunk vizedből, mi vagy állataink, megadjuk ami jár, semmi nehézség sem lesz a fizetség körül, csak hamarosan átvonulhassunk.«	19 To which the Israelites replied, 'We shal keep to the high road; if I and my flocks drink any of yourwater, I am wil ing to pay for it. Al I am asking is to pass through on foot.'
20 Ám ő így felelt: »Nem vonulsz át!« Rögtön ki is vonult eléje vég nélküli sokasággal és fegyveres kézzel,	20 Edom replied: 'You shal not pass,' and Edom opposed them in great numbers and great force.
21 s nem akarta meghallgatni, amikor kérte, hogy engedje meg a területén való átvonulást. Éppen azért kitért előle Izrael.	21 At Edom's refusal to grant Israel passage through his territory, Israel turned away.
22 Miután pedig elindították Kádesből a tábort, eljutottak a Hór hegyéhez, amely Edom földjének határán van.	22 They set out from Kadesh, and the Israelites, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.
23 Így szólt ott az Úr Mózeshez:	23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the frontier of Edom, and said,
24 »Térjen meg immár Áron a népéhez, mert nem megy be arra a földre, amelyet Izrael fiainak szántam, minthogy nem hitt az én számnak a Pörölés-vizénél.	24 'Aaron is to be gathered to his people; he will not enter the country which I have given to theIsraelites, since you both disobeyed my order at the Waters of Meribah.
25 Vedd Áront s vele fiát, s vidd fel őket a Hór hegyére,	25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up Mount Hor.
26 s vedd le az atyáról ruháit, s add rá őket Eleazárra, a fiára: Áron pedig térjen meg népéhez és haljon meg ott.«	26 Then take Aaron's robes off him and dress his son Eleazar in them. Aaron wil then be gathered tohis people; that is where he will die.'
27 Úgy tett Mózes, ahogy az Úr parancsolta: felmentek a Hór hegyére az egész közösség előtt,	27 Moses did as Yahweh ordered. With the whole community watching, they went up Mount Hor.
28 s levette Áronról ruháit, s ráadta őket Eleazárra, a fiára.	28 Moses took Aaron's robes off him and dressed his son Eleazar in them, and there Aaron died, onthe mountain-top. Moses and Eleazar then came back down the mountain.
29 Amikor aztán Áron a hegy tetején meghalt, Mózes Eleazárral együtt lejött. Amikor pedig az egész közösség látta, hogy Áron meghalt, siratta őt harminc napig valamennyi családjában.	29 The whole community saw that Aaron had died, and for thirty days the whole House of Israelmourned for Aaron.
