1 Ekkor Mirjám és Áron Mózes ellen beszéltek az ő etióp felesége miatt	1 Miriam, and Aaron too, criticised Moses over the Cushite woman he had married. He had indeedmarried a Cushite woman.
2 és azt mondták: »Hát csak Mózes által szólt az Úr? Nemde, hozzánk is éppen úgy szólt!« Amikor az Úr ezt meghallotta –	2 They said, 'Is Moses the only one through whom Yahweh has spoken? Has he not spoken through ustoo?' Yahweh heard this.
3 Mózes ugyanis szelídebb férfi volt minden embernél, aki a földön lakott –,	3 Now Moses was extremely humble, the humblest man on earth.
4 azonnal szólt hozzá meg Áronhoz és Mirjámhoz: »Menjetek ki csak ti hárman a szövetség sátrához.« Amikor aztán kimentek,	4 Suddenly Yahweh said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, 'Come out, al three of you, to the Tent ofMeeting.' They went, al three of them,
5 leszállt az Úr egy felhőoszlopban, megállt a sátor ajtajában és szólította Áront meg Mirjámot. Amikor odamentek,	5 and Yahweh descended in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tent. He cal ed Aaronand Miriam and they both came forward.
6 azt mondta nekik: »Halljátok beszédem! Ha valaki közületek prófétája az Úrnak, annak látomásban jelenek meg vagy álomban szólok.	6 Yahweh said: Listen to my words! if there is a prophet among you, I reveal myself to him in a vision, I speak to him in a dream.
7 Ám Mózes, az én szolgám nem ilyen: ő az én egész házamban meghitt,	7 Not so with my servant Moses; to him my whole household is entrusted;
8 mert vele szemtől szembe beszélek, s ő nyíltan, nem rejtélyekben és jelképekben látja az Urat. Miért nem féltetek tehát gyalázni szolgámat, Mózest?«	8 to him I speak face to face, plainly and not in riddles, and he sees Yahweh's form. How, then, couldyou dare to criticise my servant Moses?
9 Aztán haragra gerjedve irántuk, elment.	9 Yahweh's anger was aroused by them. He went away,
10 Amint pedig eltávozott a felhő, amely a sátor felett volt, íme, Mirjám úgy fehérlett a leprától, mint a hó. Amikor Áron rátekintett és látta, hogy lepra öntötte el,	10 and as soon as the cloud left the Tent, there was Miriam covered with a virulent skin-disease, whiteas snow! Aaron turned to look at her and saw that she had contracted a virulent skin-disease.
11 azt mondta Mózesnek: »Kérlek, uram, ne ródd fel nékünk ezt a bűnt, amelyet esztelenül elkövettünk,	11 Aaron said to Moses: 'Oh, my Lord, please do not punish us for the sin we have been foolishenough to commit.
12 ne legyen ez olyan, mint a halott, s mint az idétlen magzat, amelyet anyja méhe elvetél: íme, már fél testét megemésztette a lepra.«	12 Do not let her be like some monster with its flesh half eaten away when it leaves its mother's womb!'
13 Erre Mózes az Úrhoz kiáltott: »Isten, kérlek, gyógyítsd meg őt!«	13 Moses pleaded with Yahweh. 'O God,' he said, 'I beg you, please heal her!'
14 Azt felelte neki az Úr: »Ha az atyja az arcába köpött volna, nemde legalább hét napig kellene szégyellnie magát? El kell csak különíteni hét napig a táboron kívül, aztán vissza lehet hívni.«	14 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'If her father had done no more than spit in her face, would she not beunclean for seven days? Have her shut out of the camp for seven days, and then have her brought in again.'
15 Kizárták tehát Mirjámot hét napra a táborból és a nép nem indult el arról a helyről, amíg vissza nem hívták Mirjámot.	15 Miriam was shut out of the camp for seven days. The people did not set out until she returned.
16 Aztán elindult a nép Hácerótból és a Párán-pusztában ütötte fel sátrait.	16 Then the people moved on from Hazeroth and pitched camp in the desert of Paran.
