KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hét esztendős volt Joás, amikor uralkodni kezdett.	1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.
2 Jéhu hetedik esztendejében lett Joás királlyá s negyven esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben. Anyját, aki beersebai volt, Szebiának hívták.	2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
3 Joás azon egész idő alatt, amíg Jojáda pap oktatta, azt cselekedte, ami igaz az Úr előtt.	3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.
4 Mindazonáltal a magaslatokat nem távolította el s a nép továbbra is a magaslatokon áldozott és gyújtott illatot.	4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.
5 Joás azt mondta a papoknak: »Minden olyan szent pénzt, amelyet a megszámláltak az Úr házába hoznak, vagy amelyet az emberek személyváltság fejében adományoznak, vagy amelyet önként, szívük jószántából az Úr templomába hoznak,	5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-
6 vegyenek fel a papok beosztásuk szerint s ennek ellenében javíttassák ki a ház romlásait, ha valami kijavítani valót látnak.«	6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'
7 De Joás király huszonharmadik esztendejéig sem javíttatták ki a papok a templom romlásait.	7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;
8 Hívatta erre Joás király Jojáda főpapot meg a papokat és azt mondta nekik: »Miért nem javíttatjátok ki a templom romlásait? Ne vegyétek fel tehát ezentúl a pénzt beosztástok szerint, hanem fordítsátok a templom kijavítására.«	8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'
9 Nem volt szabad tehát többé a papoknak felvenniük a pénzt a néptől, de nem is kellett kijavíttatniuk a ház romlásait.	9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.
10 Ekkor vett Jojáda főpap egy ládát, felül lyukat csinált rá s elhelyezte az oltár mellé, az Úr házába vezető bejárat jobb oldalára s az ajtónálló papok abba tettek minden pénzt, amelyet az Úr templomába hoztak.	10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.
11 Ha aztán látták, hogy sok pénz van a ládában, felment a király jegyzője és a főpap, kiöntötték és megszámlálták a pénzt, amelyet az Úr házában találtak	11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.
12 és szám és súly szerint azok kezébe adták, akik az Úr házának mesterembereire felügyeltek, azok pedig kiadták az ácsoknak és a kőműveseknek, akik az Úr házán dolgoztak	12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,
13 s a romlásokat javították, meg a kőfaragóknak, meg arra, hogy fát és faragott követ vásároljanak rajta, hogy így véghezvigyék az Úr házának kijavítását mindabban, amiben a ház erősítése végett költségekre volt szükség.	13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.
14 De vedrek, villák, tömjénezők, trombiták, szóval arany- és ezüsttárgyak nem készültek ebből a pénzből az Úr temploma számára – abból a pénzből, amelyeket az Úr templomába hoztak –,	14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,
15 mert azt azoknak adták át, akik a munkát vezették, hogy az Úr templomát javítsák ki.	15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.
16 Elszámolást nem kívántak azoktól az emberektől, akik a pénzt átvették, hogy a mesteremberek közt kiosszák, hanem bizalmi alapon kezelték.	16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.
17 A vétekért való áldozatból származó pénzt azonban, meg a bűnért való áldozatokból származó pénzt, nem szolgáltatták be az Úr templomába, mert az a papoké volt.	17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.
18 Ekkoriban feljött Házaél, Szíria királya s hadakozott Gát ellen s bevette, majd megfordult, hogy felvonuljon Jeruzsálem ellen.	18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.
19 Ekkor Joás, Júda királya vette mindazokat a szent tárgyakat, amelyeket atyái, Jozafát, Jórám, Ahaszja, Júda királyai az Úrnak szenteltek, meg amelyeket ő ajánlott fel, meg az összes ezüstöt, amely az Úr templomának s a király palotájának kincsei közt akadt s elküldte Házaélnek, Szíria királyának. Erre az visszavonult Jeruzsálem alól.	19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.
20 Joás egyéb dolgai pedig s mindaz, amit cselekedett, nemde meg vannak írva Júda királyainak krónikás könyvében?	20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?
21 Végül szolgái fellázadtak s összeesküdtek egymás között s leütötték Joást Milló házában, Cilla lejtőjén:	21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .
22 Jozakár, Semaát fia és Jozabád, Sómer fia, a szolgái sújtották halálra. Aztán eltemették atyái mellé Dávid városában, és fia, Amaszja, lett a király helyette.	22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.
