1 Két esztendő múlva a fáraó látott álmot. Azt álmodta, hogy a folyóvíz mellett állt,	1 After two years Pharao had a dream. He thought he stood by the river,
2 és abból feljött hét szép és igen kövér tehén, és legelészett a mocsaras helyeken.	2 Out of which came up seven kine, very beautiful and fat: and they fed in marshy places.
3 Aztán hét másik emelkedett fel utánuk a folyóvízből, csúnyák és soványságtól elaszottak. Ott álltak a vízparton,	3 Other seven also came up out of the river, ill favoured, and leanfleshed: and they fed on the very bank of the river, in green places:
4 és elnyelték a hét szép és kövér tehenet. Ekkor felébredt a fáraó.	4 And they devoured them, whose bodies were very beautiful and well conditioned. So Pharao awoke.
5 Aztán ismét elaludt, és egy másik álmot látott: Hét kalász növekedett egy száron, mind teljes és szép,	5 dummy verses inserted by amos
6 aztán pedig ugyanannyi hitvány, forróság-perzselte kalász sarjadt.	6 He slept again, and dreamed another dream: Seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk full and fair:
7 Ezek elnyelték az előbbiek minden szépségét. Ekkor felébredt a fáraó az álomból.
8 Amikor megvirradt, a fáraó félelemtől remegve elküldött Egyiptom valamennyi jósához és minden bölcséhez, összehívta őket, és elbeszélte nekik az álmot. Nem akadt azonban senki, aki meg tudta volna fejteni.	8 Then seven other ears sprung up thin and blasted,
9 Ekkor a főpohárnok végre észbekapott, és azt mondta: »Egy vétkemről szólok:	9 And devoured all the beauty of the former. Pharao awaked after his rest:
10 amikor a király megharagudott szolgáira, engem és a fősütőmestert a testőrök kapitányának tömlöcébe vetett.	10 And when morning was come, being struck with fear, he sent to all the interpreters of Egypt, and to all the wise men: and they being called for, he told them his dream, and there was not any one that could interpret it.
11 Ott egy és ugyanazon éjszakán mindketten jövőre vonatkozó álmot láttunk.	11 Then at length the chief butler remembering, said: I confess my sin:
12 Volt ott egy héber ifjú, a testőrök kapitányának a legénye, s mi elbeszéltük neki az álmokat.	12 The king being angry with his servants, commanded me and the chief baker to be cast into the prison of the captain of the soldiers:
13 Tőle mindazt meghallottuk, amit aztán a dolgok menete igazolt. Én ugyanis visszakerültem tisztembe, a társamat pedig bitófára függesztették.«	13 Where in one night both of us dreamed a dream foreboding things to come.
14 Parancsot adott erre a király, és tüstént kihozták Józsefet a tömlöcből, megnyírták, más ruhát adtak rá, és eléje vezették.	14 There was there a young man a Hebrew, servant to the same captain of the soldiers: to whom we told our dreams,
15 A fáraó így szólt hozzá: »Álmokat láttam, és nincs, aki megfejtse. Azt hallottam, hogy te igen bölcsen meg tudod fejteni azokat.«	15 And we heard what afterwards the event of the thing proved to be so. For I was restored to my office: and he was hanged upon a gibbet.
16 József ezt válaszolta: »Nem én, hanem Isten ad majd szerencsés választ a fáraónak!«	16 Forthwith at the king's command, Joseph was brought out of the prison, and they shaved him, and changing his apparel, brought him in to him.
17 Erre a fáraó elbeszélte, amit látott: »Azt álmodtam, hogy a folyó partján álltam.	17 And he said to him: I have dreamed dreams, and there is no one that can expound them: Now I have heard that thou art very wise at interpreting them.
18 Hét, igen szép és kövérhúsú tehén jött fel a folyóból, és legelte a mocsaras legelő zöldjét.	18 Joseph answered: Without me, God shall give Pharao a prosperous answer.
19 De íme, követte őket hét másik tehén, annyira rút és sovány, hogy sohasem láttam olyat Egyiptom földjén.	19 So Pharao told what he had dreamed: Methought I stood upon the bank of the river,
20 Ezek elnyelték és elemésztették az előbbieket,	20 And seven kine came up out of the river exceeding beautiful and full of flesh: and they grazed on green places in a marshy pasture.
21 mégsem mutatták semmi nyomát annak, hogy jóllaktak, ugyanolyan soványak és rútak maradtak. Felébredtem, és amikor újra elnyomott az álom,	21 And behold, there followed these, other seven kine, so very ill favoured and lean, that I never saw the like in the land of Egypt:
22 ezt az álmot láttam: Hét kalász nőtt egy száron, mind teljes és igen szép.	22 And the devoured and consumed the former,
23 Aztán hét másik nőtt egy száron, hitvány és forróságtól aszott.	23 And yet gave no mark of their being full: but were as lean and ill favoured as before. I awoke, and then fell asleep again,
24 Ezek elnyelték az előbbiek szépségét. Elmondtam az álmot a jósoknak, de nincs, aki megfejtse.«	24 And dreamed a dream: Seven ears of corn grew upon one stalk, full and very fair.
25 József azt felelte: »A király mindkét álma ugyanazt jelenti: amit Isten cselekedni akar, megmutatta a fáraónak.	25 Other seven also thin and blasted, sprung of the stock:
26 A hét szép tehén és a hét teli kalász a bőség hét esztendeje; ezek az álomnak egy és ugyanazon jelentését tartalmazzák.	26 And they devoured the beauty of the former: I told this dream to the conjecturers, and there is no man that can expound it.
27 A hét hitvány és sovány tehén, amely utánuk feljött, valamint a hét üres és forrószélperzselte kalász az elkövetkező éhség hét esztendeje.	27 Joseph answered: The king's dream is one: God hath shewn to Pharao what he is about to do.
28 Mindezek pedig ebben a rendben teljesednek be:	28 The seven beautiful kine, and the seven full ears, are seven years of plenty: and both contain the same meaning of the dream.
29 Most hét, nagyon termékeny esztendő köszönt Egyiptom egész földjére.	29 And the seven lean and thin kine that came up after them, and the seven thin ears that were blasted with the burning wind, are seven years of famine to come:
30 Ezek után hét másik olyan terméketlen esztendő következik, hogy feledésbe merül az előző bőség, mert elemészti az éhség az egész földet,	30 Which shall be fulfilled in this order:
31 és a nagy bőséget elpusztítja a nagy ínség.	31 Behold, there shall come seven years of great plenty in the whole land of Egypt:
32 Az pedig, hogy kétszer láttál ugyanarra a dologra vonatkozó álmot, a bizonyosság jele, mert megtörténik az, amit Isten mondott, és Isten hamarosan beteljesíti.	32 After which shall follow other seven years of so great scacity, that all the abundance before shall be forgotten: for the famine shall consume all the land,
33 Most azért válasszon ki a fáraó egy bölcs és ügyes férfit, és állítsa azt Egyiptom földje fölé.	33 And the greatness of the scarcity shall destroy the greatness of the plenty.
34 Ő pedig rendeljen tiszttartókat minden tartományba, és a termés ötödét a hét termékeny esztendőben,	34 And for that thou didst see the second time a dream pertaining to the same thing: it is a token of the certainty, and that the word of God cometh to pass, and is fulfilled speedily.
35 amely majd most következik, gyűjtse raktárakba. Minden gabonát gyűjtsenek be a fáraó hatalma alá, és raktározzanak el a városokban.	35 Now therefore let the king provide a wise and industrious man, and make him ruler over the land of Egypt:
36 Így készüljenek fel az elkövetkezendő hétesztendős éhínségre, amely azután Egyiptomra szakad, hogy el ne vesszen ez a föld az éhség miatt!«	36 That he may appoint overseers over all the countries: and gather into barns the fifth part of the fruits, during the seven fruitful years,
37 Tetszett a tanács a fáraónak és minden szolgájának.	37 That shall now presently ensue: and let all the corn be laid up under Pharao's hands and be reserved in the cities.
38 Azt mondta nekik: »Találhatunk-e olyan férfit, mint őt, akit betölt az Isten lelke?«	38 And let it be in readiness, against the famine of seven years to come, which shall oppress Egypt, and the land shall not consumed with scarcity.
39 Így szólt azért Józsefhez: »Mivel Isten neked mutatta meg mindazt, amit mondtál, találhatok-e bölcsebbet nálad, vagy hozzád hasonlót?	39 The counsel pleased Pharao and all his servants.
40 Te légy házam felett, és a te szád parancsára hallgasson az egész nép. Csak a trón tesz nagyobbá engem tenálad.«	40 And he said to them: Can we find such another man, that is full of the spirit of God?
41 Azután a fáraó azt mondta Józsefnek: »Íme, Egyiptom egész földje fölé rendeltelek!«	41 He said therefore to Joseph: Seeing God hath shewn thee all that thou hast said, can I find one wiser and one like unto thee?
42 Azzal levette a gyűrűt a kezéről, és ráhúzta az ő kezére, bisszus ruhába öltöztette, és nyakába akasztotta az aranyláncot.	42 Thou shalt be over my house, and at the commandment of thy mouth all the people shall obey: only in the kingly throne will I be above thee.
43 Aztán körülvitette második kocsiján, egy hírnöknek pedig azt kellett kiáltania: »Térdre!« hogy mindenki térdet hajtson előtte, és tudja meg, hogy ő Egyiptom egész földjének a feje.	43 And again Pharao said to Joseph: Behold, I have appointed thee over the whole land of Egypt.
44 A király azután így szólt Józsefhez: »A fáraó én vagyok, de a te parancsod nélkül se kezét, se lábát ne mozdítsa senki Egyiptom egész földjén.«	44 And he took his ring from his own hand, and gave it into his hand: and he put upon him a robe of silk, and put a chain of gold about his neck.
45 Új nevet is adott neki, és elnevezte Szafanet Fánek-nek (ami Világszabadítót jelent), és feleségül adta neki Ászenetet, Putifárnak, a heliopoliszi papnak a lányát. Kiment tehát József Egyiptom földjére	45 And he made him go up into his second chariot, the crier proclaiming that all should bow their knee before him, and that they should know he was made govenor over the whole land of Egypt.
46 – harmincesztendős volt, amikor a fáraó-király színe előtt állt –, és bejárta Egyiptom összes tartományát.	46 And the king said to Joseph: I am Pharao; without thy commandment no man shall move hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
47 Amikor aztán eljött a hétesztendős bőség, kévékbe kötötték a gabonát, összegyűjtötték Egyiptom raktáraiba,	47 And he turned his name, and called him in the Eyyptian tounge, The saviour of the world. And he gave him to wife Asenth the daughter of Putiphare priest of Heliopolis. Then Joseph went out to the land of Egypt:
48 és elrakták a gabona minden feleslegét az egyes városokban.	48 (Now he was thirty years old when he stood before king Pharao) and he went round all the countries of Egypt.
49 Oly nagy volt a gabona bősége, hogy annyi volt, mint a tenger homokja; nagy mennyisége miatt megmérni sem lehetett.	49 And the fruitfulness of the seven years came: and the corm being bound up into sheaves was gathered together into the barns of Egypt.
50 Józsefnek még az éhség eljövetele előtt született két fia, akiket Putifárnak, a heliopoliszi papnak a lánya, Ászenet szült neki.	50 And all the abundance of grain was laid up in every city.
51 Az elsőszülöttet Manasszénak nevezte, mondván: »Elfeledtette velem Isten minden gyötrelmemet és atyám házát.«	51 And there was so great abundance of wheat, that it was equal to the sand of the sea, and the plenty exceeded measure.
52 A másikat pedig elnevezte Efraimnak, mondván: »Megsokasított engem Isten szegénységem földjén.«	52 And before the famine came, Joseph had two sons born: whom Aseneth the daughter of Putiphare priest of Heliopolis bore unto him.
53 Amikor aztán eltelt a bőség hét esztendeje, amely Egyiptomra köszöntött,	53 And he called the name of the first born Manasses, saying: God hath made me to forget all my labours, and my father's house.
54 elkövetkezett az éhség hét esztendeje, amint József előre megmondta. Az éhség elhatalmasodott az egész földön, de Egyiptom egész földjén volt félretéve eleség.	54 And he named the second Epharaim, saying: God hath made me to grow in the land of my poverty.
55 Amikor tehát megéheztek, a nép a fáraóhoz kiáltott, és élelmet kért tőle. Ő azt felelte nekik: »Menjetek Józsefhez, s amit ő mond nektek, azt cselekedjétek!«	55 Now when the seven years of the plenty that had been in Egypt were past:
56 Amikor aztán súlyosbodott az éhínség Egyiptom egész földjén, József megnyitotta az összes gabonatárolót, és adott az egyiptomiaknak, mert őket is sújtotta az éhség.	56 The seven years of scarcity, which Joseph had foretold, began to come: and the famine prevailed in the whole world, but there was bread in all the land of Egypt.
57 Erre minden ország Egyiptomba ment, hogy eleséget vásároljon Józsefnél, mivel az éhínség egyre súlyosabb volt az egész földön.	57 And when there also they began to be famished, the people cried to Pharao for food. And he said to them: Go to Joseph: and do all that he shall say to you.
	58 And the famine increased daily in all the land: and Joseph opened all the barns, and sold to the Egyptians: for the famine had oppressed them also.
