Lettera agli Efesini - Ephesians 2

1 Και εσας οντας νεκρους δια τας παραβασεις και τας αμαρτιας εζωοποιησεν,	1 And you were dead, through the crimes and the sins
2 εις τας οποιας περιεπατησατε ποτε κατα το πολιτευμα του κοσμου τουτου, κατα τον αρχοντα της εξουσιας του αερος, του πνευματος το οποιον ενεργει την σημερον εις τους υιους της απειθειας?	2 which used to make up your way of life when you were living by the principles of this world, obeying theruler who dominates the air, the spirit who is at work in those who rebel.
3 μεταξυ των οποιων και ημεις παντες ανεστραφημεν ποτε κατα τας επιθυμιας της σαρκος ημων, πραττοντες τα θεληματα της σαρκος και των διαλογισμων, και ημεθα εκ φυσεως τεκνα οργης, ως και οι λοιποι?	3 We too were al among them once, living only by our natural inclinations, obeying the demands ofhuman self-indulgence and our own whim; our nature made us no less liable to God's retribution than the rest ofthe world.
4 ο Θεος ομως πλουσιος ων εις ελεος, δια την πολλην αγαπην αυτου με την οποιαν ηγαπησεν ημας,	4 But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us,
5 και ενω ημεθα νεκροι δια τα αμαρτηματα, εζωοποιησεν ημας μετα του Χριστου? κατα χαριν εισθε σεσωσμενοι?	5 even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ -- it is through grace that you havebeen saved-
6 και συνανεστησε και συνεκαθισεν εν τοις επουρανιοις δια Ιησου Χριστου,	6 and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus.
7 δια να δειξη εις τους επερχομενους αιωνας τον υπερβαλλοντα πλουτον της χαριτος αυτου δια της προς ημας αγαθοτητος εν Χριστω Ιησου.	7 This was to show for al ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, howextraordinarily rich he is in grace.
8 Διοτι κατα χαριν εισθε σεσωσμενοι δια της πιστεως? και τουτο δεν ειναι απο σας, Θεου το δωρον?	8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by agift from God;
9 ουχι εξ εργων, δια να μη καυχηθη τις.	9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.
10 Διοτι αυτου ποιημα ειμεθα, κτισθεντες εν Χριστω Ιησου προς εργα καλα, τα οποια προητοιμασεν ο Θεος δια να περιπατησωμεν εν αυτοις.	10 We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has alreadydesignated to make up our way of life.
11 Δια τουτο ενθυμεισθε οτι σεις οι ποτε εθνικοι κατα σαρκα, οι λεγομενοι ακροβυστια υπο της λεγομενης περιτομης της χειροποιητου εν τη σαρκι,	11 Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were gentiles by physical descent, termed theuncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the circumcised by reason of a physical operation,
12 οτι ησθε εν τω καιρω εκεινω χωρις Χριστου, απηλλοτριωμενοι απο της πολιτειας του Ισραηλ και ξενοι των διαθηκων της επαγγελιας, ελπιδα μη εχοντες και οντες εν τω κοσμω χωρις Θεου.	12 do not forget, I say, that you were at that time separate from Christ and excluded from membership ofIsrael, aliens with no part in the covenants of the Promise, limited to this world, without hope and without God.
13 Τωρα ομως δια του Ιησου Χριστου σεις οι ποτε οντες μακραν εγεινετε πλησιον δια του αιματος του Χριστου.	13 But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far off have been brought close, by the blood of Christ.
14 Διοτι αυτος ειναι η ειρηνη ημων, οστις εκαμε τα δυο εν και ελυσε το μεσοτοιχον του φραγμου,	14 For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one entity and broken down the barrierwhich used to keep them apart, by destroying in his own person the hostility,
15 καταργησας την εχθραν εν τη σαρκι αυτου, τον νομον των εντολων των εν τοις διαταγμασι, δια να κτιση εις εαυτον τους δυο εις ενα νεον ανθρωπον, φερων ειρηνην,	15 that is, the Law of commandments with its decrees. His purpose in this was, by restoring peace, tocreate a single New Man out of the two of them,
16 και να συνδιαλλαξη αμφοτερους εις εν σωμα προς τον Θεον δια του σταυρου, θανατωσας δι' αυτου την εχθραν.	16 and through the cross, to reconcile them both to God in one Body; in his own person he kil ed thehostility.
17 Και ελθων εκηρυξεν ευαγγελιον ειρηνης εις εσας τους μακραν και εις τους πλησιον,	17 He came to bring the good news of peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.
18 διοτι δι' αυτου εχομεν αμφοτεροι την εισοδον προς τον Πατερα δι' ενος Πνευματος.	18 Through him, then, we both in the one Spirit have free access to the Father.
19 Αρα λοιπον δεν εισθε πλεον ξενοι και παροικοι αλλα συμπολιται των αγιων και οικειοι του Θεου,	19 So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fel ow-citizens with the holy people of God andpart of God's household.
20 εποικοδομηθεντες επι το θεμελιον των αποστολων και προφητων, οντος ακρογωνιαιου λιθου αυτου του Ιησου Χριστου?	20 You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is thecornerstone.
21 εν τω οποιω πασα η οικοδομη συναρμολογουμενη αυξανεται εις ναον αγιον εν Κυριω?	21 Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord;
22 εν τω οποιω και σεις συνοικοδομεισθε εις κατοικητηριον του Θεου δια του Πνευματος.	22 and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit.
