Γνωριζεις τον καιρον του τοκετου των αγριων αιγων του βραχου; δυνασαι να σημειωσης ποτε γεννωσιν αι ελαφοι;1 Do you know at what time the wild goats have given birth among the rocks, or do you observe the deer when they go into labor?
Δυνασαι να αριθμησης τους μηνας τους οποιους πληρουσιν; η γνωριζεις τον καιρον του τοκετου αυτων;2 Have you numbered the months since their conception, and do you know at what time they gave birth?
Αυται συγκαμπτονται, γεννωσι τα παιδια αυτων, ελευθερονονται απο των ωδινων αυτων.3 They bend themselves for their offspring, and they give birth, and they emit roars.
Τα τεκνα αυτων ενδυναμουνται, αυξανουσιν εν τη πεδιαδι? εξερχονται και δεν επιστρεφουσι πλεον εις αυτας.4 Their young are weaned and go out to feed; they depart and do not return to them.
Τις εξαπεστειλεν ελευθερον τον αγριον ονον; η τις ελυσε τους δεσμους αυτου;5 Who has set the wild ass free, and who has released his bonds?
του οποιου οικιαν εκαμον την ερημον, και την αλμυριδα κατοικιαν αυτου.6 I have given a house in solitude to him, and his tabernacle is in the salted land.
Καταγελα του θορυβου της πολεως? δεν ακουει την κραυγην του εργοδιωκτου.7 He despises the crowded city; he does not pay attention to the bellow of the tax collector.
Κατασκοπευει τα ορη δια βοσκην αυτου, και υπαγει ζητων κατοπιν παντος ειδους χλοης.8 He looks around the mountains of his pasture, and he searches everywhere for green plants.
Θελει ευχαριστηθη ο μονοκερως να σε δουλευη, η θελει διανυκτερευσει εν τη φατνη σου;9 Will the rhinoceros be willing to serve you, and will he remain in your stall?
Δυνασαι να δεσης τον μονοκερων με τον δεσμον αυτου προς αροτριασιν; η θελει ομαλιζει τας πεδιαδας οπισω σου;10 Can you detain the rhinoceros with your harness to plough for you, and will he loosen the soil of the furrows behind you?
Θελεις βαλει το θαρρος σου εις αυτον, διοτι η δυναμις αυτου ειναι μεγαλη; η θελεις αφησει την εργασιαν σου επ' αυτον;11 Will you put your faith in his great strength, and delegate your labors to him?
Θελεις εμπιστευθη εις αυτον να σοι φερη τον σπορον σου και να συναξη αυτον εν τω αλωνιω σου;12 Will you trust him to return to you the seed, and to gather it on your drying floor?
Εδωκας συ τας ωραιας πτερυγας εις τους ταωνας; η πτερυγας και πτερα εις την στρουθοκαμηλον;13 The wing of the ostrich is like the wings of the heron, and of the hawk.
ητις αφινει τα ωα αυτης εις την γην και θαλπει αυτα επι του χωματος,14 When she leaves eggs behind in the earth, will you perhaps warm them in the dust?
και λησμονει οτι ο πους ενδεχεται να συντριψη αυτα, η το θηριον του αγρου να καταπατηση αυτα?15 She forgets that feet may trample them, or that the beasts of the field may shatter them.
σκληρυνεται κατα των τεκνων αυτης, ως να μη ησαν αυτης? ματαιως εκοπιασε, μη φοβουμενη?16 She is hardened against her young, as if they were not hers; she has labored in vain, with no fear compelling her.
διοτι ο Θεος εστερησεν αυτην απο σοφιας και δεν εμοιρασεν εις αυτην συνεσιν?17 For God has deprived her of wisdom; neither has he given her understanding.
οσακις σηκονεται ορθιος, καταγελα του ιππου και του αναβατου αυτου.18 Yet, when the time is right, she raises her wings on high; she ridicules the horse and his rider.
Συ εδωκας δυναμιν εις τον ιππον; περιενεδυσας τον τραχηλον αυτου με βροντην;19 Will you supply strength to the horse, or envelope his throat with neighing?
συ καμνεις αυτον να πηδα ως ακρις; το γαυριαμα των μυκτηρων αυτου ειναι τρομερον?20 Will you alarm him as the locusts do? His panic is revealed by the display of his nostrils.
ανασκαπτει εν τη κοιλαδι και αγαλλεται εις την δυναμιν αυτου? εξερχεται εις απαντησιν των οπλων?21 He digs at the earth with his hoof; he jumps around boldly; he advances to meet armed men.
καταγελα του φοβου και δεν τρομαζει? ουδε στρεφει απο προσωπου ρομφαιας?22 He despises fear; he does not turn away from the sword.
η φαρετρα κροταλιζει κατ' αυτου, η εξαστραπτουσα λογχη και το δορυ.23 Above him, the quiver rattles, the spear and the shield shake.
Καταπινει την γην εν αγριοτητι και μανια? και δεν πιστευει οτι ηχει σαλπιγξ?24 Seething and raging, he drinks up the earth; neither does he pause when the blast of the trumpet sounds.
αμα δε τη φωνη της σαλπιγγος, λεγει, Α, α και μακροθεν οσφραινεται την μαχην, την κραυγην των στρατηγων και τον αλαλαγμον.25 When he hears the bugle, he says, “Ha!” He smells the battle from a distance, the exhortation of the officers, and the battle cry of the soldiers.
Δια της σοφιας σου πετα ο ιεραξ και απλονει τας πτερυγας αυτου προς νοτον;26 Does the hawk grow feathers by means of your wisdom, spreading her wings towards the south?
Εις την προσταγην σου ανυψουται ο αετος και καμνει την φωλεαν αυτου εν τοις υψηλοις;27 Will the eagle lift herself up at your command and make her nest in steep places?
Κατοικει επι βραχου και διατριβει, επι αποτομου βραχου και επι αβατων τοπων?28 She dwells among the rocks, and she lingers among broken boulders and inaccessible cliffs.
εκειθεν αναζητει τροφην? οι οφθαλμοι αυτου σκοπευουσι μακροθεν?29 From there, she looks for food, and her eyes catch sight of it from far away.
και οι νεοσσοι αυτου αιμα πινουσι? και οπου πτωματα, εκει και αυτος.30 Her young will drink blood, and wherever the carcass will be, she is there immediately.
And the Lord continued, and he said to Job:
Will he who contends with God be so easily silenced? Certainly, he who argues with God must also respond to him.
Then Job answered the Lord, saying:
What could I possibly answer, since I have been speaking thoughtlessly? I will place my hand over my mouth.
One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said; and another, to which I will add no more.
