1 And this lot fell to the tribe of Manasses (for he is the firstborn of Joseph) to Machir the firstborn of Manasses the father of Galaad, who was a warlike man, and had for possession Galaad and Basan.	1 E LA sorte che scadde alla tribù di Manasse quantunque egli fosse il primogenito di Giuseppe, fu questa: Alla nazione di Machir, primogenito di Manasse, padre di Galaad, perchè erano uomini di guerra, scadde Galaad, e Basan.
2 And to the rest of the children of Manasses according to their families: to the children of Abiezer, and to the children of Helec, and to the children of Esriel, and to the children of Sechem, and to the children of Hepher, and to the children of Semida: these are the male children of Manasses the son of Joseph, by their kindreds.	2 Poi scadde la sorte agli altri figliuoli di Manasse, secondo le lor nazioni, cioè: a’ figliuoli di Abiezer, e a’ figliuoli di Helec, e a’ figliuoli di Asriel, e a’ figliuoli di Sechem, e a’ figliuoli di Hefer, e a’ figliuoli di Semida. Questi furono i figliuoli maschi di Manasse, figliuoli di Giuseppe, distinti per le lor nazioni.
3 But Salphaad the son of Hepher the son of Galaad the son of Machir the son of Manasses had no sons, but only daughters: whose names are these, Maala and Noa and Hegla and Melcha and Thersa.	3 Or Selofad, figliuolo di Hefer, figliuolo di Galaad, figliuolo di Machir, figliuolo di Manasse, non ebbe figliuoli, ma sol figliuole; delle quali i nomi sono Mahala, Noa, Hogla, Milca e Tirsa.
4 And they came in the presence of Eleazar the priest and of Josue the son of Nun, and of the princes, saying: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that a possession should be given us in the midst of our brethren. And he gave them according to the commandment of the Lord a possession amongst the brethren of their father.	4 Ed esse si presentarono davanti al Sacerdote Eleazaro, e davanti a Giosuè, figliuolo di Nun, e davanti a’ principali, dicendo: Il Signore comandò a Mosè di darci eredità per mezzo i nostri fratelli. Giosuè adunque diede loro eredità per mezzo i fratelli di lor padre, secondo il comandamento del Signore.
5 And there fell ten portions to Manasses, beside the land of Galaad and Basan beyond the Jordan.	5 Scaddero adunque dieci parti a Manasse, oltre al paese di Galaad e di Basan, ch’è di là dal Giordano;
6 For the daughters of Manasses possessed inheritance in the midst of his sons. And the land of Galaad fell to the lot of the rest of the children of Manasses.	6 perciocchè quelle figliuole di Manasse ebbero eredità per mezzo i figliuoli di esso; e il paese di Galaad fu per lo rimanente de’ figliuoli di Manasse
7 And the border of Manasses was from Aser, Machmethath which looketh towards Sichem: and it goeth out on the right hand by the inhabitants of the fountain of Taphua.	7 E il confine di Manasse, dal lato di Aser, fu Micmetat, che è dirimpetto a Sichem; poi questo confine andava a man destra verso gli abitanti di Entappua.
8 For the lot of Manasses took in the land of Taphua, which is on the borders of Manasses, and belongs to the children of Ephraim.	8 Il paese di Tappua fu di Manasse; ma Tappua, che è a’ confini di Manasse, fu de’ figliuoli di Efraim.
9 And the border goeth down to the valley of the reeds, to the south of the torrent of the cities of Ephraim, which are in the midst of the cities of Manasses: the border of Manasses is on the north side of the torrent, and the outgoings of it are at the sea:	9 Poi quel confine scendeva alla Valle delle canne; le città dal lato meridionale di detta valle furono di Efraim, per mezzo le città di Manasse; ma il confine di Manasse fu dal Settentrione di essa valle, e faceva capo al mare.
10 So that the possession of Ephraim is on the south, and on the north that of Manasses, and the sea is the border of both, and they are joined together in the tribe of Aser on the north, and in the tribe of Issachar on the east.	10 Quello ch’era verso il Mezzodì fu di Efraim, e quello ch’era verso il Settentrione fu di Manasse; e il mare era il lor confine; e dal Settentrione confinavano con Ascer, e dall’Oriente con Issacar.
11 And the inheritance of Manasses in Issachar and in Aser, was Bethsan and its villages, and Jeblaam with its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, with the towns thereof: the inhabitants also of Endor with the villages thereof: and in like manner the inhabitants of Thenac with the villages thereof: and the inhabitants of Mageddo with their villages, and the third part of the city of Nopheth.	11 E Manasse ebbe in quel d’Issacar, e in quel di Aser, Bet-sean, e le terre del suo territorio; e Ibleam, e le terre del suo territorio; e gli abitanti di Dor, e le terre del suo territorio; e gli abitanti di Endor, e le terre del suo territorio; e gli abitanti di Taanac, e le terre del suo territorio; e gli abitanti di Meghiddo, e le terre del suo territorio; che sono tre contrade.
12 Neither could the children of Manasses overthrow these cities, but the Chanaanite began to dwell in his land.	12 Or i figliuoli di Manasse non poterono scacciar gli abitanti di quelle città; anzi i Cananei si misero in cuore di abitare in quel paese.
13 But after that the children of Israel were grown strong, they subdued the Chanaanites, and made them their tributaries, and they did not kill them.	13 Ma, dopo che i figliuoli d’Israele si furono rinforzati, fecero tributari i Cananei; ma pur non li scacciarono
14 And the children of Joseph spoke to Josue, and said: Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to possess, whereas I am of so great a multitude, and the Lord hath blessed me?	14 Or i figliuoli di Giuseppe parlarono a Giosuè, dicendo: Perchè mi hai tu data per eredità una sola sorte, ed una sola parte, poichè io sono un gran popolo, secondo che il Signore mi ha benedetto infino ad ora?
15 And Josue said to them: If thou be a great people, go up into the woodland, and cut down room for thyself in the land of the Pherezite and the Raphaims: because the possession of mount Ephraim is too narrow for thee.	15 E Giosuè disse loro: Se tu sei un gran popolo, sali al bosco, e sboscati delle terre nel paese de’ Ferizzei, e dei Rafei, poichè il monte di Efraim è troppo stretto per te.
16 And the children of Joseph answered him: We cannot go up to the mountains, for the Chanaanites that dwell in the low lands, wherein are situate Bethsan with its towns, and Jezrael in the midst of the valley, have chariots of iron	16 E i figliuoli di Giuseppe dissero: Quel monte non ci basta; e in tutte le città de’ Cananei, che stanno nel paese della pianura, vi sono de’ carri di ferro; quelli che stanno in Bet-sean, e nelle terre del suo territorio, e quelli che stanno nelle valle d’Izreel ne hanno anch’essi.
17 And Josue said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasses: Thou art a great people, and of great strength, thou shalt not have one lot only:	17 Ma Giosuè parlò alla casa di Giuseppe, ad Efraim, ed a Manasse, dicendo: Tu sei un gran popolo, ed hai gran forze; tu non avrai una sola porzione.
18 But thou shalt pass to the mountain, and shalt cut down the wood, and make thyself room to dwell in: and mayst proceed farther, when thou hast destroyed the Chanaanites, who as thou sayest have iron chariots, and are very strong.	18 Perciocchè il monte sarà tuo, e se quello è un bosco, sboscalo, e sarà tuo, quanto egli si stenderà; perciocchè tu ne scaccerai i Cananei, benchè abbiano dei carri di ferro, e sieno potenti
