Deuteronomy 29

1 These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab: beside that covenant which he made with them in Horeb.	1 Moisés convocó a todo Israel y les dijo: Vosotros visteis todo lo que Yahveh hizo a vuestros propios ojos en Egipto con Faraón, sus siervos y todo su país:
2 And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: You have seen all the things that the Lord did before you in the land of Egypt to Pharao, and to all his servants, and to his whole land.	2 las grandes pruebas que tus mismos ojos vieron, aquellas señales, aquellos grandes prodigios.
3 The great temptations, which thy eyes have seen, those mighty signs and wonders,	3 Pero hasta el día de hoy no os había dado Yahveh corazón para entender, ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír.
4 And the Lord hath not given you al heart to understand, and eyes to see, and ears that may hear, unto this present day.	4 Durante cuarento años os he hecho caminar por el desierto, sin que se hayan gastado los vestidos sobre vosotros ni las sandalias en tus pies.
5 He hath brought you forty years through the desert: your garments are not worn out, neither are the shoes of your feet consumed with age.	5 No habéis tenido pan que comer, ni vino o licor fermentado que beber, para que supierais que yo, Yahveh, soy vuestro Dios.
6 You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or strong drink: that you might know that I am the Lord your God.	6 Luego llegasteis a este lugar. Sijón, rey de Jesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a nuestro encuentro para hacernos la guerra, pero los derrotamos.
7 And you came to this place: sand Sehon king of Hesebon, and Og king of Basan, came out against us to fight. And we slew them.	7 Conquistamos su país, y se lo dimos en heredad a Rubén, a Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés.
8 And took their land, and delivered it for a possession to h Ruben and Gad, and the half tribe of Manasses.	8 Guardad, pues, las palabras de esta alianza y ponedlas en práctica, para que tengáis éxito en todas vuestras empresas.
9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and fulfil them: that you may understand all that you do.	9 Aqui estáis hoy todos vosotros en presencia de Yahveh vuestro Dios: vuestros jefes de tribu, vuestros ancianos y vuestros escribas, todos los hombres de Israel,
10 You all stand this day before the Lord your God, your princes, and tribes, and ancients, and doctors, all the people of Israel,	10 con vuestros hijos y vuestras mujeres (y también el forastero que está en tu campamento, desde tu leñador hasta tu aguador),
11 , 11Your children and your wives, and the stranger that abideth with thee in the camp, besides the hewers of wood, and them that bring water:	11 a punto de entrar en la alianza de Yahveh tu Dios, jurada con imprecación, que Yahveh tu Dios concluye hoy contigo
12 That thou mayst pass in the covenant of the Lord thy God, and in the oath which this day the Lord thy God maketh with thee.	12 para hacer hoy de ti su pueblo y ser él tu Dios como te ha dicho y como juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.
13 That he may raise thee up a people to himself, and he may be thy God as he hath spoken to thee, and as he swore to thy fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.	13 Y no solamente con vosotros hago yo hoy esta alianza y esta imprecación,
14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant, and confirm these oaths,	14 sino que la hago tanto con quien está hoy aquí con nosotros en presencia de Yahveh nuestro Dios como con quien no está hoy aquí con nosotros.
15 But with all that are present and that are absent.	15 Pues vosotros sabéis cómo vivíamos en Egipto, y cómo hemos pasado por las naciones por las que habéis pasado.
16 For you know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we have passed through the midst of nations, and passing through them,	16 Habéis visto sus monstruos abominables y los ídolos de madera y de piedra, de plata y de oro que hay entre ellos.
17 You have seen their abominations and filth, that is to say, their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which they worshipped.	17 No haya entre vosotros hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Yahveh vuestro Dios para ir a servir a los dioses de esas naciones. No haya entre vosotros raíz que eche veneno o ajenjo.
18 Lest perhaps there should be among you a man or a woman, a family or a tribe, whose heart is turned away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations: and there should be among you a root bringing forth gall and bitterness.	18 Si alguien, después de haber oído las palabras de esta imprecación, se las promete felices en su corazón diciendo: «Aunque me conduzca en la terquedad de mi corazón, todo me irá bien, puesto que la abundancia de agua quitará la sed»,
19 And when he shall hear the words of this oath, he should bless himself in his heart saying: I shall have peace, and will walk on in the naughtiness of my heart: and the drunken may consume the thirsty,	19 Yahveh no se avendrá a perdonarle. Porque la ira y el celo de Yahveh se encenderán contra ese hombre, toda la imprecación escrita en este libro caerá sobre él, y Yahveh borrará su nombre de debajo de los cielos.
20 And the Lord should not forgive him: but his wrath and jealousy against that man should be exceedingly enkindled at that time, and all the curses that are written in this volume should light upon him: and the Lord should blot out his name from under heaven,	20 Yahveh le separará de todas las tribus de Israel, para su desgracia, conforme a todas las imprecaciones de la alianza escrita en el libro de esta Ley.
21 And utterly destroy him out of all the tribes of Israel, according to the curses that are contained in the book of this law and covenant:	21 La generación futura, vuestros hijos que vendrán después de vosotros, así como el extranjero llegado de un país lejano, verán las plagas de esta tierra y las enfermedades con que Yahveh la castigará, y exclamarán:
22 And the following generation shall say, and the children that shall be born hereafter, and the strangers that shall come from afar, seeing the plagues of that land and the evils wherewith the Lord hath afflicted it,	22 «Azufre, sal, calcinación es su tierra entera; no se sembrará ni germinará ni hierba alguna crecerá en ella, como en la catástrofe de Sodoma y Gomorra, Admá y Seboyím, que Yahveh asoló en su ira y su furor».
23 Burning it with brimstone, and the heat of salt, so that it cannot be sown any more, nor any green thing grow therein, after the example of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha, Adama and Seboim, which the Lord destroyed in his wrath and indignation:	23 Y todas las naciones preguntarán: «¿Por qué ha tratado así Yahveh a esta tierra? ¿Por qué el ardor de tan gran ira?»
24 And all the nations shall say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land? what meaneth this exceeding great heat of his wrath?	24 Y se dirá: «Porque han abandonado la alianza que Yahveh, Dios de sus padres, había concluido con ellos al sacarlos del país de Egipto;
25 And they shall answer: Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord, which he made with their fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt:	25 porque se han ido a servir a otros dioses y se han postrado ante ellos, dioses que no conocían y que él no les había dado en suerte.
26 And they have served strange gods, and adored them, whom they knew not, and for whom they had not been assigned:	26 Por eso se ha encendido la ira de Yahveh contra este país y ha traído sobre él toda la maldición escrita en este libro.
27 Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this volume :	27 Yahveh los ha arrancado de su suelo con ira, furor y gran indignación, y los ha arrojado a otro país donde hoy están».
28 And he hath cast them out of their land, in anger and in wrath, and in very great indignation, and hath thrown them into a strange land, as it is seen this day.	28 Las cosas secretas pertenecen a Yahveh nuestro Dios, pero las cosas reveladas nos atañen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que pongamos en práctica todas las palabras de esta Ley.
29 Secret things to the Lord our God: things that are manifest, to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
