1 Take heed that you do not your justice before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward of your Father who is in heaven.	1 State attenti a non praticare la vostra giustizia davanti agli uomini per essere ammirati da loro, altrimenti non c’è ricompensa per voi presso il Padre vostro che è nei cieli.
2 Therefore when thou dost an almsdeed, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honoured by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.	2 Dunque, quando fai l’elemosina, non suonare la tromba davanti a te, come fanno gli ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade, per essere lodati dalla gente. In verità io vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
3 But when thou dost alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth.	3 Invece, mentre tu fai l’elemosina, non sappia la tua sinistra ciò che fa la tua destra,
4 That thy alms may be in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee.	4 perché la tua elemosina resti nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti ricompenserà.
5 And when ye pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, that love to stand and pray in the synagogues and corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.	5 E quando pregate, non siate simili agli ipocriti che, nelle sinagoghe e negli angoli delle piazze, amano pregare stando ritti, per essere visti dalla gente. In verità io vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
6 But thou when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee.	6 Invece, quando tu preghi, entra nella tua camera, chiudi la porta e prega il Padre tuo, che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti ricompenserà.
7 And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For they think that in their much speaking they may be heard.	7 Pregando, non sprecate parole come i pagani: essi credono di venire ascoltati a forza di parole.
8 Be not you therefore like to them, for your Father knoweth what is needful for you, before you ask him.	8 Non siate dunque come loro, perché il Padre vostro sa di quali cose avete bisogno prima ancora che gliele chiediate.
9 Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.	9 Voi dunque pregate così: Padre nostro che sei nei cieli, sia santificato il tuo nome,
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.	10 venga il tuo regno, sia fatta la tua volontà, come in cielo così in terra.
11 Give us this day our supersubstantial bread.	11 Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano,
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.	12 e rimetti a noi i nostri debiti come anche noi li rimettiamo ai nostri debitori,
13 And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.	13 e non abbandonarci alla tentazione, ma liberaci dal male.
14 For if you will forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will forgive you also your offences.	14 Se voi infatti perdonerete agli altri le loro colpe, il Padre vostro che è nei cieli perdonerà anche a voi;
15 But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences.	15 ma se voi non perdonerete agli altri, neppure il Padre vostro perdonerà le vostre colpe.
16 And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.	16 E quando digiunate, non diventate malinconici come gli ipocriti, che assumono un’aria disfatta per far vedere agli altri che digiunano. In verità io vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
17 But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face;	17 Invece, quando tu digiuni, profùmati la testa e làvati il volto,
18 That thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret, will repay thee.	18 perché la gente non veda che tu digiuni, ma solo il Padre tuo, che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti ricompenserà.
19 Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through and steal.	19 Non accumulate per voi tesori sulla terra, dove tarma e ruggine consumano e dove ladri scassìnano e rubano;
20 But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither the rust nor moth doth consume, and where thieves do not break through, nor steal.	20 accumulate invece per voi tesori in cielo, dove né tarma né ruggine consumano e dove ladri non scassìnano e non rubano.
21 For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also.	21 Perché, dov’è il tuo tesoro, là sarà anche il tuo cuore.
22 The light of thy body is thy eye. If thy eye be single, thy whole body shall be lightsome.	22 La lampada del corpo è l’occhio; perciò, se il tuo occhio è semplice, tutto il tuo corpo sarà luminoso;
23 But if thy eye be evil thy whole body shall be darksome. If then the light that is in thee, be darkness: the darkness itself how great shall it be!	23 ma se il tuo occhio è cattivo, tutto il tuo corpo sarà tenebroso. Se dunque la luce che è in te è tenebra, quanto grande sarà la tenebra!
24 No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.	24 Nessuno può servire due padroni, perché o odierà l’uno e amerà l’altro, oppure si affezionerà all’uno e disprezzerà l’altro. Non potete servire Dio e la ricchezza.
25 Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat: and the body more than the raiment?	25 Perciò io vi dico: non preoccupatevi per la vostra vita, di quello che mangerete o berrete, né per il vostro corpo, di quello che indosserete; la vita non vale forse più del cibo e il corpo più del vestito?
26 Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not you of much more value than they?	26 Guardate gli uccelli del cielo: non séminano e non mietono, né raccolgono nei granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre. Non valete forse più di loro?
27 And which of you by taking thought, can add to his stature by one cubit?	27 E chi di voi, per quanto si preoccupi, può allungare anche di poco la propria vita?
28 And for raiment why are you solicitous? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin.	28 E per il vestito, perché vi preoccupate? Osservate come crescono i gigli del campo: non faticano e non filano.
29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these.	29 Eppure io vi dico che neanche Salomone, con tutta la sua gloria, vestiva come uno di loro.
30 And if the grass of the field, which is to day, and to morrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith?	30 Ora, se Dio veste così l’erba del campo, che oggi c’è e domani si getta nel forno, non farà molto di più per voi, gente di poca fede?
31 Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat: or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed?	31 Non preoccupatevi dunque dicendo: “Che cosa mangeremo? Che cosa berremo? Che cosa indosseremo?”.
32 For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things.	32 Di tutte queste cose vanno in cerca i pagani. Il Padre vostro celeste, infatti, sa che ne avete bisogno.
33 Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.	33 Cercate invece, anzitutto, il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia, e tutte queste cose vi saranno date in aggiunta.
34 Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.	34 Non preoccupatevi dunque del domani, perché il domani si preoccuperà di se stesso. A ciascun giorno basta la sua pena.
