DOUAI-RHEIMSGREEK BIBLE
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he passed from thence, to teach and preach in their cities.1 Και οτε ετελειωσεν ο Ιησους διαταττων εις τους δωδεκα μαθητας αυτου, μετεβη εκειθεν δια να διδασκη και να κηρυττη εν ταις πολεσιν αυτων.
Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he said to him:2 Ο δε Ιωαννης, ακουσας εν τω δεσμωτηριω τα εργα του Χριστου, επεμψε δυο των μαθητων αυτου,
Art thou he that art to come, or look we for another?3 και ειπε προς αυτον? Συ εισαι ο ερχομενος, η αλλον προσδοκωμεν;
And Jesus making answer said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen.4 Και αποκριθεις ο Ιησους ειπε προς αυτους?
The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preached to them.5 τυφλοι αναβλεπουσι και χωλοι περιπατουσι, λεπροι καθαριζονται και κωφοι ακουουσι, νεκροι εγειρονται και πτωχοι ευαγγελιζονται?
And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me.6 και μακαριος ειναι οστις δεν σκανδαλισθη εν εμοι.
And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?7 Ενω δε ουτοι ανεχωρουν, ηρχισεν ο Ιησους να λεγη προς τους οχλους περι του Ιωαννου? Τι εξηλθετε εις την ερημον να ιδητε; καλαμον υπο ανεμου σαλευομενον;
But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.8 Αλλα τι εξηλθετε να ιδητε; ανθρωπον ενδεδυμενον μαλακα ιματια; ιδου, οι τα μαλακα φορουντες εν τοις οικοις των βασιλεων ευρισκονται.
But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.9 Αλλα τι εξηλθετε να ιδητε; προφητην; ναι, σας λεγω, και περισσοτερον προφητου.
For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.10 Διοτι ουτος ειναι, περι του οποιου ειναι γεγραμμενον?
Amen I say to you, there hath not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.11 Αληθως σας λεγω, μεταξυ των γεννηθεντων υπο γυναικων δεν ηγερθη μεγαλητερος Ιωαννου του βαπτιστου?
And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away.12 Απο δε των ημερων Ιωαννου του βαπτιστου εως του νυν η βασιλεια των ουρανων βιαζεται, και οι βιασται αρπαζουσιν αυτην.
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John:13 Διοτι παντες οι προφηται και ο νομος εως Ιωαννου προεφητευσαν.
And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.14 Και αν θελητε να δεχθητε τουτο, αυτος ειναι ο Ηλιας, οστις εμελλε να ελθη.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.15 Ο εχων ωτα δια να ακουη ας ακουη.
But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place.16 Αλλα με τι να ομοιωσω την γενεαν ταυτην; ειναι ομοια με παιδαρια καθημενα εν ταις αγοραις και φωναζοντα προς τους συντροφους αυτων,
Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned.17 και λεγοντα?
For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil.18 Διοτι ηλθεν ο Ιωαννης μητε τρωγων μητε πινων, και λεγουσι?
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children.19 Ηλθεν ο Υιος του ανθρωπου τρωγων και πινων, και λεγουσιν?
Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein were done the most of his miracles, for that they had not done penance.20 Τοτε ηρχισε να ονειδιζη τας πολεις εν αις εγειναν τα πλειοτερα θαυματα αυτου, διοτι δεν μετενοησαν?
Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in you, they had long ago done penance in sackcloth and ashes.21 Ουαι εις σε, Χοραζιν, ουαι εις σε, Βηθσαιδαν?
But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.22 Πλην σας λεγω εις την Τυρον και Σιδωνα ελαφροτερα θελει εισθαι η τιμωρια εν ημερα κρισεως παρα εις εσας.
And thou Capharnaum, shalt thou be exalted up to heaven? thou shalt go down even unto hell. For if in Sodom had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in thee, perhaps it had remained unto this day.23 Και συ, Καπερναουμ, η υψωθεισα εως του ουρανου, θελεις καταβιβασθη εως αδου?
But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.24 Πλην σας λεγω, οτι εις την γην των Σοδομων ελαφροτερα θελει εισθαι η τιμωρια εν ημερα κρισεως παρα εις σε.
At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.25 Εν εκεινω τω καιρω αποκριθεις ο Ιησους ειπε?
Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.26 ναι, ω Πατερ, διοτι ουτως εγεινεν αρεστον εμπροσθεν σου.
All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him.27 Παντα παρεδοθησαν εις εμε απο του Πατρος μου?
Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you.28 Ελθετε προς με, παντες οι κοπιωντες και πεφορτισμενοι, και εγω θελω σας αναπαυσει.
Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.29 Αρατε τον ζυγον μου εφ' υμας και μαθετε απ' εμου, διοτι πραος ειμαι και ταπεινος την καρδιαν, και θελετε ευρει αναπαυσιν εν ταις ψυχαις υμων?
For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.30 διοτι ο ζυγος μου ειναι καλος και το φορτιον μου ελαφρον.
