1 And Josias kept a phase to the Lord in Jerusalem, and it was sacrificed on the fourteenth day of the first month.	1 Josias célébra à Jérusalem une Pâque en l’honneur de Yahvé: on immola la Pâque le quatorzième jour du premier mois.
2 And he set the priests in their offices, and exhorted them to minister in the house of the Lord.	2 Il fixa aux prêtres leurs fonctions et leur confia le service de la Maison de Yahvé.
3 And he spoke to the Levites, by whose instruction all Israel was sanctified to the Lord, saying: Put the ark in the sanctuary of the temple, which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built : for you shall carry it no more: but minister now to the Lord your God, and to his people Israel.	3 Puis le roi dit aux lévites qui enseignent tout Israël et qui sont consacrés au service de Yahvé: “Puisque l’Arche Sainte repose dans la Maison que Salomon fils de David, roi d’Israël, a construit, vous n’avez plus à la porte: servez donc Yahvé votre Dieu et son peuple Israël.
4 And prepare yourselves by your houses, and families according to your courses, as David king of Israel commanded, and Solomon his son hath written.	4 Organisez-vous par familles, d’après vos classes, selon l’écrit de David, roi d’Israël et le décret de Salomon, son fils.
5 And serve ye in the sanctuary by the families and companies of Levi.	5 Tenez-vous dans le Lieu saint selon la distribution de vos familles pour le service de vos frères, les hommes du peuple, et selon la répartition des lévites par familles.
6 And being sanctified kill the phase, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the words which the Lord spoke by the hand of Moses.	6 Vous allez immoler la Pâque, purifiez-vous donc et faites les préparatifs pour vos frères, selon la parole de Yahvé que Moïse nous a donnée.”
7 And Josias gave to all the people that were found there in the solemnity of the phase, of lambs and of kids of the flocks, and of other small cattle thirty thousand, and of oxen three thousand, all these were of the king's substance.	7 Josias donna pour les hommes du peuple du petit bétail, agneaux et chevreaux, de quoi fournir la victime pascale à tous ceux qui se trouvaient là; ils étaient 30 000. Il préleva en outre 3 000 têtes de gros bétail provenant des propriétés royales.
8 And his princes willingly offered what they had vowed, both to the people and to the priests and the Levites. Moreover Helcias, and Zacharias, and Jahiel rulers of the house of the Lord, gave to the priests to keep the phase two thousand six hundred small cattle, and three hundred oxen.	8 Ses chefs avaient également fait un don pour le peuple. Les prêtres et les lévites: Hilkiyas, Zékaryas et Yéhiel, chefs de la Maison de Dieu, donnèrent aux prêtres 2 600 têtes de petit bétail et 300 bœufs comme victimes pascales.
9 And Chonenias, and Semeias and Nathanael, his brethren, and Hasabias, and Jehiel, and Jozabad princes of the Levites, gave to the rest of the Levites to celebrate the phase five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.	9 Les chefs des lévites, Konanyas, Chémayas et son frère Nétanéel, Hachabyas, Yéhiel et Yozabad donnèrent aux lévites comme victimes pascales 5 000 têtes de petit bétail et 500 bœufs.
10 And the ministry was prepared, and the priests stood in their office: the Levites also in their companies, according to the king's commandment.	10 Le service étant organisé, les prêtres et les lévites se tinrent à leur place selon leur classe, comme l’avait ordonné le roi.
11 And the phase was immolated: and the priests sprinkled the blood with their hand, and the Levites flayed the holocausts:	11 On immola la Pâque; les prêtres recevaient le sang de la main des lévites, ils le répandaient, puis les lévites écorchaient les victimes.
12 And they separated them to give them by the houses and families of every one, and to be offered to the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses, and with the oxen they did in like manner.	12 On mit à part les holocaustes pour les répartir entre le peuple selon leurs clans familiaux et qu’ils les offrent à Yahvé, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de Moïse; on fit de même pour le gros bétail.
13 And they roasted the phase with fire, according to that which is written in the law: but the victims of peace offerings they boiled in caldrons, and kettles, and pots, and they distributed them speedily among all the people.	13 D’accord avec le rituel, la Pâque fut rôtie au feu, mais on fit cuire dans des chaudrons, dans des marmites et dans des pots, les offrandes saintes que l’on porta ensuite au peuple.
14 And afterwards they made ready for themselves, and for the priests: for the priests were busied in offering of holocausts and the fat until night: wherefore the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the priests the sons of Aaron last.	14 Les lévites préparèrent alors la Pâque pour eux et pour les prêtres, car les prêtres fils d’Aaron furent pris jusqu’à la nuit par l’offrande des holocaustes et des graisses. C’est pour cela que les lévites firent les préparatifs pour eux-mêmes et pour les prêtres fils d’Aaron.
15 And the singers the sons of Asaph stood in their order, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Idithun the prophets of the king: and the porters kept guard at every gate, so as not to depart one moment from their service: and therefore their brethren the Levites prepared meats for them.	15 Les chantres, fils d’Asaf, se tenaient à leur place selon les ordres de David, d’Asaf, de Héman, et de Yédoutoun le voyant du roi; quant aux portiers, ils se tenaient aux diverses portes. Aucun d’entre eux n’avait de raison de quitter son service, puisque leurs frères lévites préparaient tout pour eux.
16 So all the service of the Lord was duly accomplished that day, both in keeping the phase, and offering holocausts upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josias.	16 Voilà comment on organisa ce jour-là tout le culte de Yahvé, de façon à célébrer la Pâque et présenter les holocaustes sur l’autel de Yahvé comme l’avait ordonné le roi Josias.
17 And the children of Israel that were found there, kept the phase at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.	17 Les Israélites qui se trouvaient là célébrèrent alors la Pâque et, durant les sept jours suivants, la fête des Azymes.
18 There was no phase like to this in Israel, from the days of Samuel the prophet: neither did any of all the kings of Israel keep such a phase as Josias kept, with the priests, and the Levites, and all Juda, and Israel that were found, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	18 Depuis le temps du prophète Samuel, jamais en Israël on n’avait célébré une Pâque comme celle-là. Aucun des rois d’Israël n’avait célébré une Pâque comme celle que fit Josias avec les prêtres, les lévites, tout Juda, les Israélites de passage et tous les habitants de Jérusalem.
19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josias was this phase celebrated.	19 On célébra cette Pâque la dix-huitième année du règne de Josias.
20 After that Josias had repaired the temple, Nechao king of Egypt came up to fight in Charcamis by the Euphrates: and Josias went out to meet him.	20 Tout cela était terminé, et Josias avait réparé le Temple, lorsque le roi d’Égypte Nékao, monta pour combattre à Karkémich, sur l’Euphrate. Josias partit à sa rencontre.
21 But he sent messengers to him, saying: What have I to do with thee, O king of Juda? I come not against thee this day, but I fight against another house, to which God hath commanded me to go in haste : forbear to do against God, who is with me, lest he kill thee.	21 Nékao lui envoya des messagers: “Nous n’avons rien à voir ensemble, roi de Juda, ce n’est pas toi que je suis venu combattre. Je suis parti en guerre contre une autre maison et Dieu m’a dit de me presser. Laisse donc faire le Dieu qui est avec moi, sinon il pourrait te détruire!”
22 Josias would not return, but prepared to fight against him, and hearkened not to the words of Nechao from the mouth of God, I but went to fight in the field of Mageddo.	22 Mais Josias ne se détourna pas de Nékao, il était décidé à le combattre et n’écouta pas les paroles de Nékao qui sortaient de la bouche de Dieu. Il s’avança donc pour combattre dans la plaine de Méguiddo.
23 And there he was wounded by the archers, and he said to his servants: Carry me out of the battle, for I am grievously wounded.	23 Des archers tirèrent sur le roi Josias et le roi dit à ses hommes: “Emportez-moi, je me sens très mal.”
24 And they removed him from the chariot into another, that followed him after the manner of kings, and they carried him away to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in the monument of his fathers, and all Juda and Jerusalem mourned for him,	24 Ses hommes le descendirent de son char, et l’emmenèrent sur un autre char à Jérusalem où il mourut. On l’enterra dans les tombes de ses ancêtres; tout Juda et tout Jérusalem célébrèrent le deuil de Josias.
25 Particularly Jeremias: whose lamentations for Josias all the singing men and singing women repeat unto this day, and it became like a law in Israel: Behold it is found written in the Lamentations.	25 Jérémie composa un chant funèbre pour Josias; tous les chanteurs et chanteuses ont parlé de Josias dans leurs chants funèbres jusqu’à ce jour: c’est devenu un rite en Israël. Ils sont écrits dans le Recueil des chants funèbres.
26 Now the rest of the acts of Josias and of his mercies, according to what was commanded by the law of the Lord:	26 Le reste des actes de Josias, les témoignages de sa fidélité à ce qui est écrit dans la Loi de Yahvé,
27 And his works first and last, are written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.	27 en un mot, tous ses actes du premier jusqu’au dernier, cela est écrit dans le Livre des Rois d’Israël et de Juda.
