1 Now Josaphat was rich and very glorious, and was joined by affinity to Achab.	1 Josaphat eut donc beaucoup de richesses et d'honneur et il s'allia par mariage avec Achab.
2 And he went down to him after some years to Samaria: and Achab at his coming killed sheep and oxen in abundance for him and the people that came with him: and he persuaded him to go up to Ramoth Galaad.	2 Au bout de quelques années, il vint visiter Achab à Samarie. Achab immola quantité demoutons et de boeufs pour lui et sa suite afin de l'inciter à attaquer Ramot de Galaad.
3 And Achab king of Israel said to Josaphat king of Juda: Come with me to Ramoth Galaad. And he answered him: Thou art as I am, and my people as thy people, and we will be with thee in the war.	3 Achab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: "Viendras-tu avec moi à Ramot de Galaad?" Illui répondit: "Il en sera de la bataille pour moi comme pour toi, pour mes gens comme pour tes gens."
4 And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: Inquire, I beseech thee, at present the word of the Lord.	4 Cependant Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: "Je te prie, consulte d'abord la parole de Yahvé."
5 So the king of Israel gathered together of the prophets four hundred men, and he said to them: Shall we go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or shall we forbear ? But they said: Go up, and God will deliver it into the king's hand.	5 Le roi d'Israël rassembla les prophètes, au nombre de 400, et leur demanda: "Devons-nousaller attaquer Ramot de Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Ils répondirent: "Monte, Dieu la livrera aux mains duroi."
6 And Josaphat said: Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire also of him?	6 Mais Josaphat dit: "N'y a-t-il donc ici aucun prophète de Yahvé, par qui nous puissions leconsulter?"
7 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man, of whom we may ask the will of the Lord: but I hate him, for he never prophesieth good to me, but always evil: and it is Micheas the son of Jemla. And Josaphat said: Speak not thus, O king.	7 Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: "Il y a encore un homme par qui on peut consulter Yahvé,mais je le hais, car il ne prophétise jamais le bien à mon sujet, mais toujours du mal: c'est Michée, fils de Yimla."Josaphat dit: "Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!"
8 And the king of Israel called one of the eunuchs, and said to him : Call quickly Micheas the son of Jemla.	8 Le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque et dit: "Fais vite venir Michée, fils de Yimla."
9 Now the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda, both sat on their thrones, clothed in royal robes, and they sat in the open court by the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets prophesied before them.	9 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis, chacun sur son trône, en grand costume;ils siégeaient sur l'aire devant la porte de Samarie et tous les prophètes se livraient à leurs transports devant eux.
10 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana made him horns of iron, and said: Thus saith the Lord: With these shalt thou push Syria, till thou destroy it.	10 Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, se fit des cornes de fer et dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Avec cela tuencorneras les Araméens jusqu'au dernier."
11 And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, and said: Go up to Ramoth Galaad, and thou shalt prosper, and the Lord will deliver them into the king's hand.	11 Et tous les prophètes faisaient la même prédiction, disant: "Monte à Ramot de Galaad! Turéussiras, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."
12 And the messenger that went to call Micheas, said to him: Behold the words of all the prophets with one mouth declare good to the king: I beseech thee therefore let not thy word disagree with them, and speak thou also good success.	12 Le messager qui était allé chercher Michée lui dit: "Voici que les prophètes n'ont qu'uneseule bouche pour parler en faveur du roi. Tâche de parler comme l'un d'eux et prédis le succès."
13 And Micheas answered him: As the Lord liveth, whatsoever my God shall say to me, that will I speak.	13 Mais Michée répondit: "Par Yahvé vivant! Ce que mon Dieu dira, c'est cela quej'énoncerai."
14 So he came to the king: and the king said to him: Micheas, shall we go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or forbear? And he answered him: Go up, for all shall succeed prosperously, and the enemies shall be delivered into your hands.	14 Il arriva près du roi, et le roi lui demanda: "Michée, devons-nous aller combattre à Ramotde Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Il répondit: "Montez! Vous réussirez, ses habitants seront livrés entre vosmains."
15 And the king said: I adjure thee again and again to say nothing but the truth to me, in the name of the Lord.	15 Mais le roi lui dit: "Combien de fois me faudra-t-il t'adjurer de ne me dire que la vérité aunom de Yahvé?"
16 Then he said: I saw all Israel scattered in the mountains, like sheep without a shepherd : and the Lord said: These have no masters: let every man return to his own house in peace.	16 Alors il prononça: "J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau sanspasteur. Et Yahvé a dit: ils n'ont plus de maître, que chacun retourne en paix chez soi!"
17 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee that this man would not prophesy me any good, but evil?	17 Le roi d'Israël dit alors à Josaphat: "Ne t'avais-je pas dit qu'il prophétisait pour moi non lebien mais le mal?"
18 Then he said: Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left.	18 Michée reprit: "Ecoutez plutôt la parole de Yahvé: j'ai vu Yahvé assis sur son trône; toutel'armée du ciel se tenait à sa droite et à sa gauche.
19 And the Lord said: Who shall deceive Achab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall in Ramoth Galaad? And when one spoke in this manner, and another otherwise:	19 Yahvé demanda: Qui trompera Achab, le roi d'Israël, pour qu'il marche contre Ramot deGalaad et qu'il y succombe? Ils répondirent celui-ci d'une manière et celui-là d'une autre.
20 There came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said: I will deceive him. And the Lord said to him: By what means wilt thou deceive him?	20 Alors l'Esprit s'avança et se tint devant Yahvé: C'est moi, dit-il, qui le tromperai. Yahvé luidemanda: Comment?
21 And he answered: I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said: Thou shalt deceive, and shalt prevail: go out, and do so.	21 Il répondit: J'irai et je me ferai esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes.Yahvé dit: Tu le tromperas, tu réussiras. Va et fais ainsi.
22 Now therefore behold the Lord hath put a spirit of lying in the mouth of all thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.	22 Voici donc que Yahvé a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes qui sontlà, mais Yahvé a prononcé contre toi le malheur."
23 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana came, and struck Micheas on the cheek and said: Which way went the spirit of the Lord from me, to speak to thee?	23 Alors Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'approcha et frappa Michée à la mâchoire, en disant: "Parquelle voie l'esprit de Yahvé m'a-t-il quitté pour te parler?"
24 And Micheas said :Thou thyself shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go in from chamber to chamber, to hide thyself.	24 Michée repartit: "C'est ce que tu verras le jour où tu fuiras dans une chambre retirée pour tecacher."
25 And the king of Israel commanded, saying: Take Micheas, and carry him to Amen the governor of the city, and to Joas the son of Amelech,	25 Le roi d'Israël ordonna: "Saisissez Michée, et remettez-le à Amon, gouverneur de la ville, etau fils du roi, Yoash.
26 And say: Thus saith the king: Put this fellow in prison, and give him bread and water in a small quantity till I return in peace.	26 Vous leur direz: Ainsi parle le roi. Mettez cet homme en prison et nourrissez-le strictementde pain et d'eau jusqu'à ce que je revienne sain et sauf."
27 And Micheas said: If thou return in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said: Hear, all ye people.	27 Michée dit: "Si tu reviens sain et sauf, c'est que Yahvé n'a pas parlé par ma bouche."
28 So the king of Israel and Josaphat king of Juda went up to Ramoth Galaad.	28 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, marchèrent contre Ramot de Galaad.
29 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: I will change my dress, and so I will go to the battle, but put thou on thy own garments. And the king of Israel having changed his dress, went to the battle.	29 Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: "Je me déguiserai pour marcher au combat, mais toi, revêtston costume!" Le roi d'Israël se déguisa et ils marchèrent au combat.
30 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his cavalry, saying: Fight ye not with small, or great, but with the king of Israel only.	30 Le roi d'Aram avait donné cet ordre à ses commandants de chars: "Vous n'attaquerez ni petitni grand, mais seulement le roi d'Israël."
31 So when the captains of the cavalry saw Josaphat, they said: This is the king of Israel. And they surrounded him to attack him: but he cried to the Lord, and he helped him, and turned them away from him.	31 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: "C'est le roi d'Israël", et ilsconcentrèrent sur lui le combat; mais Josaphat poussa son cri de guerre, Yahvé lui vint en aide et Dieu lesentraîna loin de lui.
32 For when the captains of the cavalry saw, that he was not the king of Israel, they left him.	32 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'éloignèrentde lui.
33 And it happened that one of the people shot an arrow at a venture, and struck the king of Israel between the neck and the shoulders, and he said to his chariot man: Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded.	33 Or un homme banda son arc sans savoir qui il visait et atteignit le roi d'Israël entre lecorselet et les appliques de la cuirasse. Celui-ci dit au charrier: "Tourne bride et fais-moi sortir de la mêlée, car jeme sens mal."
34 And the fight was ended that day: but the king of Israel stood in his chariot against the Syrians until the evening, and died at the sunset.	34 Mais le combat se fit plus violent ce jour-là; le roi d'Israël, jusqu'au soir, resta debout surson char en face des Araméens et, au coucher du soleil, il mourut.
