1 And when king Ezechias heard these words, he rent his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.	1 Cuando el rey Ezequías oyó esto, rasgó sus vestiduras, se cubrió con un sayal y fue a la Casa del Señor.
2 And he sent Eliacim, who was over the house, and Sobna the scribe, and the ancients of the priests covered with sackcloths, to Isaias the prophet the son of Amos,	2 Además, envió al mayordomo de palacio Eliaquim, al secretario Sebná y a los sacerdotes más ancianos, todos cubiertos de sayales, para decir al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós:
3 And they said to him: Thus saith Ezechias: This day is a day of tribulation, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: the children are come to the birth, and the woman in travail hath not strength.	3 «Así habla Ezequías: Hoy es un día de angustia, de castigo y de oprobio, porque los hijos están a punto de nacer, pero no hay fuerza para darlos a luz.
4 It may be the Lord thy God will hear all the words of Rabsaces, whom the king of the Assyrians his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and to reprove with words, which the Lord thy God hath heard: and do thou offer prayer for the remnants that are found.	4 Tal vez el Señor, tu Dios, escuche las palabras del copero mayor, a quien el rey de Asiria, su señor, envió para insultar al Dios viviente, y el Señor tu Dios, lo castigue por las palabras que ha escuchado. Eleva entonces una plegaria por el resto que todavía subsiste».
5 So the servants of king Ezechias came to Isaias.	5 Los servidores del rey Ezequías fueron a ver a Isaías,
6 And Isaias said to them: Thus shall you say to your master: Thus saith the Lord: Be not afraid for the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of the Assyrians have blasphemed me.	6 y este les dijo: «Díganle a su señor: Así habla el Señor: No temas por las palabras que has oído, y con las que me ultrajaron los lacayos del rey de Asiria.
7 Behold I will send a spirit upon him, and he shall hear a message, and shall return into his own country, and I will make him fall by the sword in his own country.	7 Yo mismo pondré un espíritu en él y, apenas oiga una noticia, regresará a su país; y yo lo haré caer bajo la espada en su propio país».
8 And Rabsaces returned, and found the king of the Assyrians besieging Lobna: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachis.	8 El copero mayor regresó y se encontró con el rey de Asiria, que estaba atacando a Libná.
9 And when he heard of Theraca king of Ethiopia: Behold, he is come out to fight with thee: and was going against him, he sent messengers to Ezechias, saying:	9 El había oído, en efecto, que el rey se había retirado de Laquis, al recibir la noticia de que Tirjacá, rey de Cus, se había puesto en campaña para combatirlo.
10 Thus shall you say to Ezechias king of Juda: Let not thy God deceive thee, in whom thou trustest: and do not say: Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hands of the king of the Assyrians.	10 «Hablen así a Ezequías, rey de Judá: Que no te engañe tu Dios, en quien confías, haciéndote pensar que Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.
11 Behold thou hast heard what the kings of the Assyrians have done to all countries, how they have laid them waste: and canst thou alone be delivered?	11 Tú has oído, seguramente, lo que hicieron los reyes de Asiria a todos los países, al consagrarlos al exterminio total. ¿Y tú te vas a librar?
12 Have the gods of the nations delivered any of them, whom my fathers have destroyed, to wit, Gozan, and Haran, and Reseph, and the children of Eden that were in Thelassar?	12 ¿Libraron acaso sus dioses a esas naciones que mis padres han destruido, a Gozán, Jarán, Résef y a la gente de Edén que está en Telasar?
13 Where is the king of Emath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Ana and of Ava?	13 ¿Dónde están el rey de Jamat, el rey de Arpad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, el de Hená y el de Ivá?
14 And when Ezechias had received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and had read it, he went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord,	14 Ezequías tomó la carta de la mano de los mensajeros y la leyó. Después subió a la Casa del Señor, la desplegó delante del Señor
15 And he prayed in his sight, saying: O Lord God of Israel, who sitteth upon the cherubims, thou alone art the God of all the kings of the earth: thou madest heaven and earth:	15 y oró, diciendo: «Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que tienes tu trono sobre los querubines: tú solo eres el Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra, tú has hecho el cielo y la tierra.
16 Incline thy ear, and hear: open, O Lord, thy eyes, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to upbraid unto us the living God.	16 Inclina tu oído, Señor, y escucha; abre tus ojos, Señor, y mira. Escucha las palabras que Senaquerib ha mandado decir, para insultar al Dios viviente.
17 Of a truth, O Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have destroyed nations, and the lands of them all.	17 Es verdad, Señor, que los reyes de Asiria han arrasado todas las naciones y sus territorios.
18 And they have cast their gods into the fire: for they were not Rods, but the works of men's hands of wood and stone, and they destroyed them.	18 Ellos han arrojado sus dioses al fuego, porque no son dioses, sino obra de las manos del hombre, nada más que madera y piedra. Por eso los hicieron desaparecer.
19 Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know, that thou art the Lord the only God.	19 Pero ahora, Señor, Dios nuestro, ¡sálvanos de su mano, y que todos los reinos de la tierra reconozcan que tú solo, Señor, eres Dios!».
20 And Isaias the son of Amos sent to Ezechias, saying: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: I have heard the prayer thou hast made to me concerning Sennacherib king of the Assyrians.	20 Isaías, hijo de Amós, mandó a decir a Ezequías: «Así habla el Señor, Dios de Israel: Tú me has dirigido una súplica acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y yo la he escuchado.
21 This is the word, that the Lord hath spoken of him: The virgin the daughter of Sion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn: the daughter of Jerusalem hath wagged her head behind thy back.	21 Esta es la palabra que el Señor ha pronunciado contra él: Te desprecia, se burla de ti, la virgen hija de Sión; a tus espaldas mueve la cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.
22 Whom hast thou reproached, and whom hast thou blasphemed? against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thy eyes on high? against the holy one of Israel.	22 ¿A quién has insultado y ultrajado? ¿Contra quién has alzado la voz y levantado bien alto tus ojos? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!
23 By the hand of thy servants thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said: With the multitude of my chariots I have gone up to the height of the mountains, to the top of Libanus, and have cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees. And I have entered into the furthest parts thereof, and the forest of its Carmel.	23 Por medio de tus mensajeros han insultado al Señor, y has dicho: «Con mis numerosos carros escalé la cima de las montañas, los rincones inaccesibles del Líbano. Talé sus cedros más altos, sus mejores cipreses; llegué hasta su último extremo, hasta lo más espeso de su bosque.
24 I have cut down, and I have drunk strange waters, and have dried up with the soles of my feet all the shut up waters.	24 Excavé pozos y bebí aguas extranjeras; sequé con la planta de mis pies todos los canales de Egipto».
25 Hast thou not heard what I have done from the beginning? from the days of old I have formed it, and now I have brought it to effect: that fenced cities of fighting men should be turned to heaps of ruin:	25 ¿No lo has oído? Hace mucho tiempo que lo he preparado: lo he planeado desde los tiempos antiguos y ahora lo llevo a cabo. Así, tú has reducido a un montón de ruinas las ciudades fortificadas.
26 And the inhabitants of them, were weak of hand, they trembled and were confounded, they became like the grass of the field, and the green herb on the tops of houses, which withered before it came to maturity.	26 Sus habitantes, con las manos caídas, están aterrorizados, avergonzados: son como el pasto de los campos y la gramilla verde, como la hierba de los techos, o el grano agostado antes de madurar.
27 Thy dwelling and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy way I knew before, and thy rage against me.	27 Pero yo sé cuándo te sientas, cuándo sales y cuándo entras, y cuándo tiemblas de rabia contra mí.
28 Thou hast been mad against me, and thy pride hath come up to my ears: therefore I will put a ring in thy nose, and a bit between thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way, by which thou camest.	28 Porque has temblado de rabia contra mí, y tu insolencia ha subido a mis oídos, pondré mi garfio en tus narices y mi bozal en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde habías venido.
29 And to thee, O Ezechias, this shall be a sign: Eat this year what thou shalt find: and in the second year, such things as spring of themselves: but in the third year sow and reap: plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.	29 Y esto te servirá de señal: Este año se comerá del grano caído, y el año próximo, de lo que brote espontáneamente; pero al tercer año, siembren y cosechen, planten viñas y coman de sus frutos.
30 And whatsoever shall be left of the house of Juda, shall take root downward, and bear fruit upward.	30 Los sobrevivientes de la casa de Judá, los que todavía queden, echarán de nuevo raíces por debajo, y producirán frutos por arriba.
31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and that which shall be saved out of mount Sion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.	31 Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un resto, y del monte Sión, algunos sobrevivientes. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará todo eso.
32 Wherefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of the Assyrians: He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow into it, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a trench about it.	32 Por eso, así habla el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: El no entrará en esta ciudad, ni se lanzará una flecha; no la enfrentará con el escudo, ni se levantará contra ella un terraplén.
33 By the way that he came, he shall return: and into this city he shall not come, saith the Lord.	33 Se volverá por el mismo camino, sin entrar en esta ciudad –oráculo del Señor –
34 And I will protect this city, and will save it for my own sake, and for David my servant's sake.	34 Yo protegeré a esta ciudad para salvarla, por mi honor y el de David, mi servidor».
35 And it came to pass that night, that an angel of the Lord came, and slew in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when he arose early in the morning, he saw all the bodies of the dead.	35 Aquella misma noche, el Angel del Señor salió e hirió en el campamento de los asirios a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres. Y cuando los demás se levantaron por la mañana, vieron que todos eran cadáveres, que estaban muertos.
36 And Sennacherib king of the Assyrians departing went away, and he returned and abode in Ninive.	36 Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, levantó el campamento, emprendió el regreso y se quedó en Nínive.
37 And as he was worshipping in the temple of Nesroch his god, Adramelech and Sarasar his sons slew him with the sword, and they fled into the land of the Armenians, and Asarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.	37 Un día, mientras estaba postrado en el templo de Nisroc, su dios, Adramélec y Sarecer, sus hijos, lo mataron con la espada, y se pusieron a salvo en el país de Aratat. Asarhadón, su hijo, reinó en lugar de él.
