DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And after that men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them.1 When men began to multiply on earth and daughters were born to them,
The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took themselves wives of all which they chose.2 the sons of heaven saw how beautiful the daughters of man were, and so they took for their wives as many of them as they chose.
And God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.3 Then the LORD said: "My spirit shall not remain in man forever, since he is but flesh. His days shall comprise one hundred and twenty years."
Now giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men and they brought forth children, these are the mighty men of old, men of renown.4 At that time the Nephilim appeared on earth (as well as later), after the sons of heaven had intercourse with the daughters of man, who bore them sons. They were the heroes of old, the men of renown.
And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,5 When the LORD saw how great was man's wickedness on earth, and how no desire that his heart conceived was ever anything but evil,
It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,6 he regretted that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was grieved.
He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them.7 So the LORD said: "I will wipe out from the earth the men whom I have created, and not only the men, but also the beasts and the creeping things and the birds of the air, for I am sorry that I made them."
But Noe found grace before the Lord.8 But Noah found favor with the LORD.
These are the generations of Noe: Noe was a just and perfect man in his generations, he walked with God.9 These are the descendants of Noah. Noah, a good man and blameless in that age,
And he begot three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.10 for he walked with God, begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
And the earth was corrupted before God, and was filled with iniquity.11 In the eyes of God the earth was corrupt and full of lawlessness.
And when God had seen that the earth was corrupted (for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth,)12 When God saw how corrupt the earth had become, since all mortals led depraved lives on earth,
He said to Noe: The end of all flesh is come before me, the earth is filled with iniquity through them, and I will destroy them with the earth.13 he said to Noah: "I have decided to put an end to all mortals on earth; the earth is full of lawlessness because of them. So I will destroy them and all life on earth.
Make thee an ark of timber planks: thou shalt make little rooms in the ark, and thou shalt pitch it within and without.14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood, put various compartments in it, and cover it inside and out with pitch.
And thus shalt thou make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits: the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.15 This is how you shall build it: the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
Thou shalt make a window in the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish the top of it: and the door of the ark thou shalt set in the side: with lower, middle chambers, and third stories shalt thou make it.16 Make an opening for daylight in the ark, and finish the ark a cubit above it. Put an entrance in the side of the ark, which you shall make with bottom, second and third decks.
Behold I will bring the waters of a great flood upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, under heaven. All things that are in the earth shall be consumed.17 I, on my part, am about to bring the flood (waters) on the earth, to destroy everywhere all creatures in which there is the breath of life; everything on earth shall perish.
And I will establish my covenant with thee, and thou shalt enter into the ark, thou and thy sons, and thy wife, and the wives of thy sons with thee.18 But with you I will establish my covenant; you and your sons, your wife and your sons' wives, shall go into the ark.
And of every living creature of all flesh, thou shalt bring two of each sort into the ark, that they may live with thee: of the male sex, and the female.19 Of all other living creatures you shall bring two into the ark, one male and one female, that you may keep them alive with you.
Of fowls according to their kind, and of beasts in their kind, and of every thing that creepeth on earth according to its kind; two of every sort shall go in with thee, that they may live.20 Of all kinds of birds, of all kinds of beasts, and of all kinds of creeping things, two of each shall come into the ark with you, to stay alive.
Thou shalt take unto thee of all food that may be eaten, and thou shalt lay it up with thee: and it shall be food for thee and them.21 Moreover, you are to provide yourself with all the food that is to be eaten, and store it away, that it may serve as provisions for you and for them."
And Noe did all things which God commanded him.22 This Noah did; he carried out all the commands that God gave him.
