1 PERCIOCCHÈ, questo Melchisedec era re di Salem, sacerdote dell’Iddio Altissimo; il quale venne incontro ad Abrahamo, che ritornava dalla sconfitta dei re, e lo benedisse;	1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham, as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him.
2 al quale ancora Abrahamo diede per parte sua la decima d’ogni cosa. E prima è interpretato: Re di giustizia; e poi ancora egli è nominato: Re di Salem, cioè: Re di pace;	2 And Abraham divided to him a tenth part of everything. And in translation his name is first, indeed, king of justice, and next also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.
3 senza padre, senza madre, senza genealogia; non avendo nè principio di giorni, nè fin di vita; anzi, rappresentato simile al Figliuol di Dio, dimora sacerdote in perpetuo.	3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life, he is thereby likened to the Son of God, who remains a priest continuously.
4 Ora, considerate quanto grande fu costui, al quale Abrahamo il patriarca diede la decima delle spoglie.	4 Next, consider how great this man is, since the Patriarch Abraham even gave tithes to him from the principal things.
5 Or quelli, d’infra i figliuoli di Levi, i quali ottengono il sacerdozio, hanno bene il comandamento, secondo la legge, di prender le decime dal popolo, cioè dai lor fratelli, benchè sieno usciti de’ lombi di Abrahamo.	5 And indeed, those who are from the sons of Levi, having received the priesthood, hold a commandment to take tithes from the people in accord with the law, that is, from their brothers, even though they also went forth from the loins of Abraham.
6 Ma quel che non trae il suo legnaggio da loro decimò Abrahamo, e benedisse colui che avea le promesse.	6 But this man, whose lineage is not enumerated with them, received tithes from Abraham, and he blessed even the one who held the promises.
7 Ora, fuor d’ogni contradizione, ciò che è minore è benedetto da ciò che è più eccellente.	7 Yet this is without any contradiction, for what is less should be blessed by what is better.
8 Oltre a ciò, qui son gli uomini mortali che prendono le decime; ma là le prende colui di cui è testimoniato che egli vive.	8 And certainly, here, men who receive tithes still die; but there, he bears witness that he lives.
9 E per dir così, in Abrahamo fu decimato Levi stesso, che prende le decime.	9 And so it may be said that even Levi, who received tithes, was himself a tithe through Abraham.
10 Perchè egli era ancora ne’ lombi del padre, quando Melchisedec l’incontrò	10 For he was still in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek met him.
11 Se adunque la perfezione era per il sacerdozio levitico poichè in su quello fu data la legge al popolo, che era egli più bisogno che sorgesse un altro sacerdote secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec, e che non fosse nominato secondo l’ordine d’Aaronne?	11 Therefore, if consummation had occurred through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), then what further need would there be for another Priest to rise up according to the order of Melchizedek, one who was not called according to the order of Aaron?
12 Perciocchè, mutato il sacerdozio, di necessità si fa ancor mutazione di legge.	12 For since the priesthood has been transferred, it is necessary that the law also be transferred.
13 Imperocchè colui, al cui riguardo queste cose son dette, è stato d’un’altra tribù, della quale niuno vacò mai all’altare.	13 For he about whom these things have been spoken is from another tribe, in which no one attends before the altar.
14 Poichè egli è notorio che il Signor nostro è uscito di Giuda, per la qual tribù Mosè non disse nulla del sacerdozio.	14 For it is evident that our Lord arose out of Judah, a tribe about which Moses said nothing concerning priests.
15 E ciò è ancora vie più manifesto, poichè sorge un altro sacerdote alla somiglianza di Melchisedec.	15 And yet it is far more evident that, according to the likeness of Melchizedek, there rises up another priest,
16 Il quale, non secondo una legge di comandamento carnale, è stato fatto sacerdote; ma secondo una virtù di vita indissolubile.	16 who was made, not according to the law of a carnal commandment, but according to the virtue of an indissoluble life.
17 Perciocchè egli testifica: Tu sei sacerdote in eterno, secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec.	17 For he testifies: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”
18 Certo v’ha annullamento del comandamento precedente, per la sua debolezza, ed inutilità.	18 Certainly, there is a setting aside of the former commandment, because of its weakness and lack of usefulness.
19 Poichè la legge non ha compiuto nulla; e v’ha d’altra parte introduzione d’una migliore speranza, per la quale ci accostiamo a Dio.	19 For the law led no one to perfection, yet truly it introduced a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
20 Ed anche, in quanto che ciò non si è fatto senza giuramento; perciocchè quelli sono stati fatti sacerdoti senza giuramento.	20 Moreover, it is not without an oath. For certainly, the others were made priests without an oath.
21 Ma questo con giuramento; per colui che gli dice: Il Signore ha giurato, e non se ne pentirà: Tu sei sacerdote in eterno, secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec.	21 But this man was made a priest with an oath, by the One who said to him: “The Lord has sworn and he will not repent. You are a priest forever.”
22 D’un patto cotanto più eccellente è stato fatto Gesù mallevadore.	22 By so much, Jesus has been made the sponsor of a better testament.
23 Oltre a ciò, coloro sono stati fatti sacerdoti più in numero; perciocchè per la morte erano impediti di durare.	23 And certainly, so many of the others became priests because, due to death, they were prohibited from continuing.
24 Ma costui, perciocchè dimora in eterno, ha un sacerdozio che non trapassa ad un altro.	24 But this man, because he continues forever, has an everlasting priesthood.
25 Laonde ancora può salvare appieno coloro, i quali per lui si accostano a Dio, vivendo sempre, per interceder per loro.	25 And for this reason, he is able, continuously, to save those who approach God through him, since he is ever alive to make intercession on our behalf.
26 Perciocchè a noi conveniva un tal sommo sacerdote, che fosse santo, innocente, immacolato, separato da’ peccatori, e innalzato di sopra a’ cieli.	26 For it was fitting that we should have such a High Priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, set apart from sinners, and exalted higher than the heavens.
27 Il qual non abbia ogni dì bisogno, come que’ sommi sacerdoti, d’offerir sacrificii, prima per i suoi propri peccati, poi per quelli del popolo; poichè egli ha fatto questo una volta, avendo offerto sè stesso.	27 And he has no need, daily, in the manner of other priests, to offer sacrifices, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people. For he has done this once, by offering himself.
28 Perciocchè la legge costituisce sommi sacerdoti uomini, che hanno infermità; ma la parola del giuramento fatto dopo la legge costituisce il Figliuolo, che è stato appieno consacrato in eterno	28 For the law appoints men as priests, though they have infirmities. But, by the word of the oath that is after the law, the Son has been perfected for eternity.
