1 GUARDA il tuo piè, quando tu andrai nella Casa di Dio; ed appressati per ascoltare, anzi che per dar quello che dànno gli stolti, cioè, sacrificio; perciocchè essi, facendo male, non però se ne avveggono.	1 You should not speak anything rashly, nor should your heart be hasty to present a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth. For this reason, let your words be few.
2 Non esser precipitoso nel tuo parlare, e il tuo cuore non si affretti a proferire alcuna parola nel cospetto di Dio; perciocchè Iddio, è nel cielo, e tu sei in terra; però sieno le tue parole poche;	2 Dreams follow many worries, and in many words foolishness will be found.
3 perciocchè dalla moltitudine delle occupazioni procede il sogno, e dalla moltitudine delle parole procede la voce stolta	3 If you have vowed anything to God, you should not delay to repay it. And whatever you have vowed, render it. But an unfaithful and foolish promise displeases him.
4 Quando avrai votato a Dio alcun voto, non indugiare di adempierlo; perciocchè gli stolti non gli son punto grati; adempi ciò che avrai votato.	4 And it is much better not to make a vow, than, after a vow, not to fulfill what was promised.
5 Meglio è che tu non voti, che se tu voti, e non adempi.	5 You should not use your mouth so as to cause your flesh to sin. And you should not say, in the sight of an Angel, “There is no Providence.” For God, being angry at your words, may scatter all the works of your hands.
6 Non recar la tua bocca a far peccar la tua persona; e non dire davanti all’Angelo, che è stato errore; perchè si adirerebbe Iddio per la tua voce, e dissiperebbe l’opera delle tue mani?	6 Where there are many dreams, there are many vanities and innumerable words. Yet truly, you must fear God.
7 Certo, in moltitudine di sogni vi sono ancora delle vanità assai; così ancora ve ne son molte in molte parole; ma tu, temi Iddio.	7 If you see false accusations against the indigent, and violent judgments, and subverted justice in the government, do not be surprised over this situation. For those in high places have others who are higher, and there are still others, more eminent, over these.
8 Se tu vedi nella provincia l’oppression del povero, e la ruberia del giudicio e della giustizia, non maravigliarti di questa cosa; perciocchè vi è uno Eccelso di sopra all’eccelso, che vi prende guardia; anzi, vi sono degli eccelsi sopra essi tutti	8 But finally, there is the King who rules over the entire earth, which is subject to him.
9 Ora la terra è la più profittevole di tutte l’altre cose; il re stesso è sottoposto al campo.	9 A greedy man will not be satisfied by money. And whoever loves wealth will reap no fruit from it. Therefore, this, too, is emptiness.
10 CHI ama l’argento non è saziato con l’argento; e chi ama i gran tesori è senza rendita. Anche questo è vanità.	10 Where there are many riches, there will also be many to consume these things. And how does it benefit the one who possesses, except that he discerns the wealth with his own eyes?
11 Dove son molti beni, sono anche molti mangiatori di essi; e che pro ne torna al padrone di essi, salvo la vista degli occhi?	11 Sleep is sweet to one who works, whether he consumes little or much. But the satiation of a wealthy man will not permit him to sleep.
12 Il sonno del lavoratore è dolce, poco o assai ch’egli mangi; ma la sazietà del ricco non lo lascia dormire.	12 There is even another most burdensome infirmity, which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept to the harm of the owner.
13 Vi è una mala doglia, la quale io ho veduta sotto il sole, cioè: che vi son delle ricchezze, conservate a’ lor padroni per lor male.	13 For they are lost in a most grievous affliction. He has produced a son, who will be in the utmost destitution.
14 Ed esse ricchezze periscono per mal affare, sì che, se il padrone di esse ha generato un figliuolo, non gliene riman nulla in mano.	14 Just as he went forth naked from his mother's womb, so shall he return, and he shall take nothing with him from his labors.
15 Un tale se ne torna ignudo, come è uscito del seno di sua madre, andandosene come è venuto; e non prende nulla della sua fatica, ch’egli se ne porti via nella mano.	15 It is an utterly miserable infirmity that, in the same manner as he has arrived, so shall he return. How then does it benefit him, since he has labored for the wind?
16 Anche questo è una mala doglia; conciossiachè egli se ne vada come egli è venuto; e che profitto ha egli di essersi affaticato per del vento?	16 All the days of his life he consumes: in darkness, and with many worries, and in distress as well as sadness.
17 Ed anche tutti i giorni della sua vita egli avrà mangiato in tenebre, con molta tristezza, e doglia, e cruccio	17 And so, this has seemed good to me: that a person should eat and drink, and should enjoy the fruits of his labor, in which he has toiled under the sun, for the number of the days of his life that God has given him. For this is his portion.
18 Ecco ciò che io ho veduto: ch’egli è una buona e bella cosa che l’uomo mangi, e beva, e goda del bene con tutta la sua fatica ch’egli dura sotto il sole, tutti i giorni della sua vita, i quali Iddio gli ha dati; perchè questo è la sua parte.	18 And this is a gift from God: that every man to whom God has given wealth and resources, and to whom he has granted the ability to consume these, may enjoy his portion, and may find joy in his labors.
19 Ed anche quando Iddio, avendo date a chi che sia ricchezze e facoltà, gli dà ancora il potere di mangiarne, e di prenderne la sua parte, e di rallegrarsi della sua fatica: ciò è un dono di Dio.	19 And then he will not fully remember the days of his life, because God occupies his heart with delights.
20 Perciocchè un tale non si ricorderà molto dei giorni della sua vita; conciossiachè Iddio gli risponda per l’allegrezza del suo cuore
