DIODATINEW AMERICAN BIBLE
OR Hiram, re di Tiro, mandò a Davide ambasciatori, e legname di cedro, e muratori, e legnaiuoli, per edificargli una casa.1 Hiram, king of Tyre, sent envoys to David along with masons and carpenters, and cedar wood to build him a house.
E Davide riconobbe che il Signore l’avea stabilito re sopra Israele; perciocchè il suo regno era grandemente innalzato, per amor d’Israele, suo popolo.2 David now understood that the LORD had truly confirmed him as king over Israel, for his kingdom was greatly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.
E Davide prese ancora delle mogli in Gerusalemme, e generò ancora figliuoli e figliuole.3 David took other wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.
E questi sono i nomi de’ figliuoli che gli nacquero in Gerusalemme: Sammua, e Sobab, e Natan, e Salomone,4 These are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
ed Ibhar, ed Elisua, ed Elpelet,5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
e Noga, e Nefeg, e Iafia,6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
ed Elisama, e Beelsada, ed Elifelet7 Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
Ora, quando i Filistei ebbero inteso che Davide era stato unto re sopra tutto Israele, salirono tutti, per cercar Davide. E Davide, avendo ciò inteso, uscì loro incontro.8 When the Philistines had heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, they went up in unison to seek him out. But when David heard of this, he marched out against them.
Ed i Filistei vennero, e si sparsero per la valle de’ Rafei.9 Meanwhile the Philistines had come and raided the valley of Rephaim.
Allora Davide domandò Iddio, dicendo: Salirò io contro a’ Filistei? e me li darai tu nelle mani? E il Signore gli disse: Sali, ed io te li darò nelle mani.10 David inquired of God, "Shall I advance against the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my power?" The LORD answered him, "Advance, for I will deliver them into your power."
Essi adunque salirono in Baal-perasim, e Davide li percosse quivi, e disse: Iddio ha rotti per mia mano i miei nemici; a guisa d’una inondazione d’acqua; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Baal-perasim.11 They advanced, therefore, to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, "God has used me to break through my enemies just as water breaks through a dam." Therefore that place was called Baal-perazim.
Ed i Filistei lasciarono quivi i lor dii; e per comandamento di Davide, furono bruciati col fuoco.12 The Philistines had left their gods there, and David ordered them to be burnt.
Or i Filistei si sparsero un’altra volta per quella valle.13 Once again the Philistines raided the valley,
E Davide domandò di nuovo Iddio. E Iddio gli disse: Non salir dietro a loro; rivolgiti d’incontro a loro, e va’ sopra loro dirincontro a’ gelsi.14 and again David inquired of God. But God answered him: "Do not try to pursue them, but go around them and come upon them from the direction of the mastic trees.
E quando tu udirai un calpestio sopra le cime de’ gelsi, allora esci fuori in battaglia; perciocchè Iddio sarà uscito davanti a te, per percuotere il campo dei Filistei.15 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mastic trees, then go forth to battle, for God has already gone before you to strike the army of the Philistines."
E Davide fece come Iddio gli avea comandato; e il campo de’ Filstei fu percosso da Gabaon fino a Ghezer.16 David did as God commanded him, and they routed the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
E la fama di Davide si sparse per tutti i paesi; e il Signore mise spavento di lui in tutte le genti17 Thus David's fame was spread abroad through every land, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.
