1 Con los ojos fijos en el Sanedrín, Pablo dijo: «Hermanos, hasta hoy yo he obrado con rectitud de conciencia delante de Dios».	1 Paul looked intently at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have conducted myself with a perfectly clear conscience before God to this day."
2 Pero el Sumo Sacerdote Ananías ordenó a sus asistentes que le pegaran en la boca.	2 The high priest Ananias ordered his attendants to strike his mouth.
3 Entonces Pablo replicó: «A ti te golpeará Dios, hipócrita. ¡Tú te sientas allí para juzgarme según la Ley y, violando la Ley, me haces golpear!».	3 Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall. Do you indeed sit in judgment upon me according to the law and yet in violation of the law order me to be struck?"
4 Los asistentes le advirtieron: «Estás insultando al Sumo Sacerdote de Dios».	4 The attendants said, "Would you revile God's high priest?"
5 «Yo no sabía, hermanos, que era el Sumo Sacerdote, respondió Pablo, porque está escrito: No maldecirás al jefe de tu pueblo».	5 Paul answered, "Brothers, I did not realize he was the high priest. For it is written, 'You shall not curse a ruler of your people.'"
6 Pablo, sabiendo que había dos partidos, el de los saduceos y el de los fariseos, exclamó en medio del Sanedrín: «Hermanos, yo soy fariseo, hijo de fariseos, y ahora me están juzgando a causa de nuestra esperanza en la resurrección de los muertos».	6 Paul was aware that some were Sadducees and some Pharisees, so he called out before the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees; (I) am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead."
7 Apenas pronunció estas palabras, surgió una disputa entre fariseos y saduceos, y la asamblea se dividió.	7 When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the group became divided.
8 Porque los saduceos niegan la resurrección y la existencia de los ángeles y de los espíritus; los fariseos, por el contrario, admiten una y otra cosas.	8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, while the Pharisees acknowledge all three.
9 Se produjo un griterío, y algunos escribas del partido de los fariseos se pusieron de pie y protestaron enérgicamente: «Nosotros no encontramos nada de malo en este hombre. ¿Y si le hubiera hablado algún espíritu o un ángel...?».	9 A great uproar occurred, and some scribes belonging to the Pharisee party stood up and sharply argued, "We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?"
10 Como la disputa se hacía cada vez más violenta, el tribuno, temiendo por la integridad de Pablo, mandó descender a los soldados para que lo sacaran de allí y lo llevaran de nuevo a la fortaleza.	10 The dispute was so serious that the commander, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, ordered his troops to go down and rescue him from their midst and take him into the compound.
11 A la mañana siguiente, el Señor se apareció a Pablo y le dijo: «Animo, así como has dado testimonio de mí en Jerusalén, también tendrás que darlo en Roma».	11 The following night the Lord stood by him and said, "Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome."
12 Al amanecer, los judíos se confabularon y se comprometieron bajo juramente a no comer ni beber, hasta no haber matado a Pablo.	12 When day came, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.
13 Los comprometidos en la conjuración eran más de cuarenta.	13 There were more than forty who formed this conspiracy.
14 Fueron al encuentro de los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos, y les dijeron: «Nosotros nos hemos comprometido bajo juramento a no probar nada antes de haber matado a Pablo.	14 They went to the chief priests and elders and said, "We have bound ourselves by a solemn oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.
15 Pónganse de acuerdo con el Sanedrín, y propongan al tribuno que lo haga comparecer delante de ustedes con el pretexto de examinar más exactamente su causa; nosotros, por nuestra parte, estaremos preparados para matarlo en el camino».	15 You, together with the Sanhedrin, must now make an official request to the commander to have him bring him down to you, as though you meant to investigate his case more thoroughly. We on our part are prepared to kill him before he arrives."
16 Pero un sobrino de Pablo, al enterarse de la emboscada, se dirigió a la fortaleza y entró para prevenir a Pablo.	16 The son of Paul's sister, however, heard about the ambush; so he went and entered the compound and reported it to Paul.
17 Este, llamando a uno de los centuriones, le dijo: «Acompaña a este muchacho hasta donde está el tribuno, porque tiene algo que comunicarle».	17 Paul then called one of the centurions and requested, "Take this young man to the commander; he has something to report to him."
18 El centurión lo llevó y dijo al tribuno: «El prisionero Pablo me pidió que te trajera a este muchacho, porque tiene algo que decirte».	18 So he took him and brought him to the commander and explained, "The prisoner Paul called me and asked that I bring this young man to you; he has something to say to you."
19 El tribuno, tomándolo de la mano, lo llevó aparte y le preguntó: «¿Qué tienes que comunicarme?».	19 The commander took him by the hand, drew him aside, and asked him privately, "What is it you have to report to me?"
20 El muchacho le respondió: «Los judíos, bajo pretexto de examinar más a fondo la causa, se han puesto de acuerdo para pedirte que mañana presentes a Pablo ante el Sanedrín.	20 He replied, "The Jews have conspired to ask you to bring Paul down to the Sanhedrin tomor row, as though they meant to inquire about him more thoroughly,
21 No lo creas. Es una emboscada que le preparan más de cuarenta de ellos, comprometidos bajo juramente a no comer ni beber hasta haberlo matado. Ya están dispuestos y sólo esperan tu consentimiento».	21 but do not believe them. More than forty of them are lying in wait for him; they have bound themselves by oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are now ready and only wait for your consent."
22 El tribuno despidió al muchacho, haciéndole esta recomendación: «No digas a nadie que me has contado esto».	22 As the commander dismissed the young man he directed him, "Tell no one that you gave me this information."
23 Después llamó a dos centuriones y les dijo: «Preparen doscientos soldados, setenta jinetes y doscientos lanceros, para que salgan en dirección a Cesarea a las nueve de la noche.	23 Then he summoned two of the centurions and said, "Get two hundred soldiers ready to go to Caesarea by nine o'clock tonight, along with seventy horsemen and two hundred auxiliaries.
24 Preparen también caballos para Pablo, y llévenlo sano y salvo hasta el gobernador Félix».	24 Provide mounts for Paul to ride and give him safe conduct to Felix the governor."
25 Y escribió una carta que decía:	25 Then he wrote a letter with this content:
26 «Claudio Lisias saluda al excelentísimo gobernador Félix.	26 "Claudius Lysias to his excellency the governor Felix, greetings.
27 Aquí te envío a un hombre que fue detenido por los judíos, y cuando ya lo iban a matar, enterándome de que era ciudadano romano, intervine con mis soldados y pude rescatarlo.	27 This man, seized by the Jews and about to be murdered by them, I rescued after intervening with my troops when I learned that he was a Roman citizen.
28 Queriendo saber exactamente de qué lo acusaban, lo hice comparecer delante del Tribunal judío,	28 I wanted to learn the reason for their accusations against him so I brought him down to their Sanhedrin.
29 pero comprobé que se lo acusaba por cuestiones relativas a la Ley de los judíos, y que no había ningún cargo por el que mereciera la muerte o la prisión.	29 I discovered that he was accused in matters of controversial questions of their law and not of any charge deserving death or imprisonment.
30 Informado de que se tramaba una conspiración contra este hombre, he querido enviarlo allí en seguida, ordenando también a sus acusadores que te expongan los cargos que tengan contra él. Adiós».	30 Since it was brought to my attention that there will be a plot against the man, I am sending him to you at once, and have also notified his accusers to state (their case) against him before you."
31 De acuerdo con la orden recibida, los soldados tomaron a Pablo y lo condujeron de noche a Antipátride.	31 So the soldiers, according to their orders, took Paul and escorted him by night to Antipatris.
32 Al día siguiente, dejaron que los jinetes partieran con él, y ellos se volvieron a la fortaleza.	32 The next day they re turned to the compound, leaving the horsemen to complete the journey with him.
33 Llegados a Cesarea, los jinetes entregaron la carta al gobernador y le presentaron a Pablo.	33 When they arrived in Caesarea they delivered the letter to the governor and presented Paul to him.
34 El gobernador leyó la carta y preguntó de qué provincia era. Al saber que era de Cilicia,	34 When he had read it and asked to what province he belonged, and learned that he was from Cilicia,
35 dijo: «Te oiré cuando lleguen tus acusadores». Y lo hizo poner bajo custodia en el pretorio de Herodes.	35 he said, "I shall hear your case when your accusers arrive." Then he ordered that he be held in custody in Herod's praetorium.
