Judit 3

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Entonces le enviaron mensajeros para decirle en son de paz:	1 They therefore sent envoys to him to sue for peace, to say,
2 «Nosotros, siervos del gran rey Nabucodonosor, nos postramos ante ti. Trátanos como mejor te parezca.	2 'We are servants of the great King Nebuchadnezzar; we lie prostrate before you. Treat us as you thinkfit.
3 Nuestras granjas y todo nuestro territorio, nuestros campos de trigo, los rebaños de ovejas y bueyes, todas las majadas de nuestros campamentos, están a tu disposición. Haz con ellos lo que quieras.	3 Our cattle-farms, al our land, al our wheat fields, our flocks and herds, all the sheep-folds in ourencampments are at your disposal. Do with them as you please.
4 También nuestras ciudades y los que las habitan son siervos tuyos. Ven, dirígete a ellas y haz lo que te parezca bien».	4 Our towns and their inhabitants too are at your service; go and treat them as you think fit.'
5 Los enviados se presentaron ante Holofernes y le comunicaron estas palabras.	5 These men came to Holofernes and delivered the message as above.
6 Entonces él bajó con todo su ejército al litoral, puso guarniciones en las ciudades altas, y les tomó los mejores hombres en calidad de tropas auxiliares.	6 He then made his way down to the coast with his army and stationed garrisons in al the fortified towns,levying outstanding men there as auxiliaries.
7 Los habitantes de las ciudades y todos los de los contornos salieron a recibirle con coronas y danzando al son de tambores.	7 The people of these cities and of al the other towns in the neighbourhood welcomed him, wearinggarlands and dancing to the sound of tambourines.
8 El saqueó sus santuarios y taló sus bosques sagrados, pues había recibido la orden de destruir todas las divinidades del país para que todas las gentes adorasen únicamente a Nabucodonosor y todas las lenguas y todas las tribus le proclamasen dios.	8 But he demolished their shrines and cut down their sacred trees, carrying out his commission to destroyal local gods so that the nations should worship Nebuchadnezzar alone and people of every language andnationality should hail him as a god.
9 Llegó después frente a Esdrelón, junto a Dotán, que está ante la gran sierra montañosa de Judea,	9 Thus he reached the edge of Esdraelon, in the neighbourhood of Dothan, a vil age facing the great ridgeof Judaea.
10 acamparon entre Gueba y Escitópolis y se detuvo allí un mes, haciendo acopio de provisiones para su ejército.	10 He pitched camp between Geba and Scythopolis and stayed there a ful month to re-provision hisforces.
