| 1 Si tu trouves le bœuf ou la brebis de ton frère qui se sont égarés, tu ne passeras pas à côté indifférent: tu les ramèneras à ton frère. | 1 "You shall not see your brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and withhold your help from them; you shall take them back to your brother. |
| 2 Si ce frère n’habite pas à côté de chez toi ou si tu ne le connais pas, tu recueilleras l’animal dans ta maison, et il restera chez toi jusqu’à ce que ton frère vienne le rechercher. Alors tu le lui rendras. | 2 And if he is not near you, or if you do not know him, you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall be with you until your brother seeks it; then you shall restore it to him. |
| 3 Tu feras de même pour son âne, pour son manteau, pour tout objet égaré que ton frère a perdu et que tu as trouvé. Tu ne feras pas l’ignorant. | 3 And so you shall do with his ass; so you shall do with his garment; so you shall do with any lost thing of your brothers, which he loses and you find; you may not withhold your help. |
| 4 Si tu vois l’âne de ton frère, ou son bœuf, tombé sur le chemin, tu ne passeras pas à côté, mais tu l’aideras à se relever. | 4 You shall not see your brother's ass or his ox fallen down by the way, and withhold your help from them; you shall help him to lift them up again. |
| 5 La femme ne portera pas un costume d’homme et l’homme ne mettra pas un vêtement de femme, car Yahvé ton Dieu a en horreur celui qui fait cela. | 5 "A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God. |
| 6 Si tu rencontres sur ton chemin, sur un arbre ou à terre, un nid d’oiseaux avec des petits ou des œufs, et que la mère soit couchée sur les petits ou sur les œufs, tu ne prendras pas la mère et ses petits. | 6 "If you chance to come upon a bird's nest, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs and the mother sitting upon the young or upon the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young; |
| 7 Tu laisseras aller la mère, et tu ne prendras pour toi que les petits: ainsi tout ira bien pour toi et tu vivras de longs jours. | 7 you shall let the mother go, but the young you may take to yourself; that it may go well with you, and that you may live long. |
| 8 Lorsque tu construiras une nouvelle maison, tu mettras une barrière tout autour du toit, car tu serais responsable si quelqu’un tombait de là-haut. | 8 "When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring the guilt of blood upon your house, if any one fall from it. |
| 9 Tu ne sèmeras pas dans ta vigne une autre culture, sinon le tout serait consacré: la semence que tu as semée, et le fruit de ta vigne. | 9 "You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole yield be forfeited to the sanctuary, the crop which you have sown and the yield of the vineyard. |
| 10 Tu n’attelleras pas ensemble pour labourer, un bœuf et un âne. | 10 You shall not plow with an ox and an ass together. |
| 11 Tu ne t’habilleras pas avec un tissu fait de laine et de lin. | 11 You shall not wear a mingled stuff, wool and linen together. |
| 12 Tu feras des cordons aux quatre coins du voile que tu portes. | 12 "You shall make yourself tassels on the four corners of your cloak with which you cover yourself. |
| 13 Voici un homme qui a épousé une femme. Il a eu des relations avec elle, mais par la suite il la déteste. | 13 "If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and then spurns her, |
| 14 Il lui reproche de vilaines choses et il porte atteinte à sa réputation. Il dit: “J’ai pris cette femme, je me suis approché d’elle, mais je n’ai pas trouvé les signes de sa virginité.” | 14 and charges her with shameful conduct, and brings an evil name upon her, saying, 'I took this woman, and when I came near her, I did not find in her the tokens of virginity,' |
| 15 Dans ce cas, le père et la mère de la jeune fille prendront le linge avec les signes de la virginité de la jeune fille et l’apporteront aux anciens à la porte de la ville. | 15 then the father of the young woman and her mother shall take and bring out the tokens of her virginity to the elders of the city in the gate; |
| 16 Le père de la jeune fille dira alors aux anciens: “J’ai donné ma fille comme épouse à cet homme, et maintenant il la déteste. | 16 and the father of the young woman shall say to the elders, 'I gave my daughter to this man to wife, and he spurns her; |
| 17 Il lui fait une réputation de mauvaise conduite et il dit: Je n’ai pas trouvé chez ta fille les signes de sa virginité. Or voici les signes de la virginité de ma fille.” Sur ce il étendra le linge devant les anciens de la ville. | 17 and lo, he has made shameful charges against her, saying, "I did not find in your daughter the tokens of virginity." And yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity.' And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. |
| 18 Les anciens de la ville prendront l’homme et le corrigeront. | 18 Then the elders of that city shall take the man and whip him; |
| 19 Ensuite ils le condamneront à une amende de 100 pièces d’argent pour avoir sali la réputation d’une vierge d’Israël, et ils les donneront au père de la jeune fille. Elle restera sa femme, et de toute sa vie il ne pourra la répudier. | 19 and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought an evil name upon a virgin of Israel; and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. |
| 20 Mais si la chose est vraie, si l’on n’a pas trouvé chez la jeune fille les signes de sa virginité; | 20 But if the thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the young woman, |
| 21 on fera sortir la jeune fille à l’entrée de la maison de son père, et les gens de la ville la lapideront. Elle mourra parce qu’elle a fait une chose honteuse en Israël, en se prostituant dans la maison de son père. C’est ainsi que tu ôteras le mal du milieu de toi. | 21 then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has wrought folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father's house; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you. |
| 22 Si l’on trouve un homme couché avec une femme mariée, ils mourront tous les deux: aussi bien la femme que l’homme qui a couché avec elle. C’est ainsi que tu ôteras le mal d’Israël. | 22 "If a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall purge the evil from Israel. |
| 23 Si un homme rencontre en ville une jeune fille qui est fiancée à un autre, et couche avec elle, | 23 "If there is a betrothed virgin, and a man meets her in the city and lies with her, |
| 24 vous les ferez sortir tous les deux à la porte de cette ville, et vous les lapiderez. La jeune fille mourra, car c’était en ville et elle n’a pas crié; et l’homme mourra car il a violé la femme de son prochain. Ainsi tu ôteras le mal du milieu de toi. | 24 then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor's wife; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you. |
| 25 Mais si l’homme a rencontré la jeune fiancée dans la campagne, et que là il l’a violentée, seul l’homme qui a couché avec elle mourra. | 25 "But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. |
| 26 Tu ne toucheras pas à la jeune fille, car elle n’a pas commis de faute (elle était dans la même situation qu’une personne qui est attaquée et tuée). | 26 But to the young woman you shall do nothing; in the young woman there is no offense punishable by death, for this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor; |
| 27 L’autre l’a rencontrée dans la campagne et la jeune fille fiancée a eu beau crier, personne n’a pu lui venir en aide. | 27 because he came upon her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her. |
| 28 Un autre cas. Un homme rencontre une jeune fille vierge qui n’est pas encore fiancée, il la violente et couche avec elle, et on les surprend. | 28 "If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, |
| 29 L’homme qui a couché avec la jeune fille donnera au père de celle-ci 50 pièces d’argent, et elle deviendra sa femme. Il ne pourra pas la répudier de toute sa vie, puisqu’il l’a violée. | 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her; he may not put her away all his days. |
| 30 "A man shall not take his father's wife, nor shall he uncover her who is his fathers. |
