| 1 Voici les lois et les commandements que vous aurez soin de mettre en pratique tous les jours de votre vie dans le pays que Yahvé, le Dieu de vos pères, vous donne pour qu’il soit bien à vous. | 1 "These are the statutes and ordinances which you shall be careful to do in the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess, all the days that you live upon the earth. |
| 2 Vous ferez disparaître tous les lieux où les peuplades que vous allez dépouiller ont servi leurs propres dieux: sur les hautes montagnes, sur les collines et sous les arbres verts. | 2 You shall surely destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains and upon the hills and under every green tree; |
| 3 Vous abattrez leurs autels, vous briserez leurs pierres dressées, vous jetterez au feu leurs pieux sacrés et vous briserez les idoles de leurs dieux; vous ferez disparaître leurs noms de ce lieu. | 3 you shall tear down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; you shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy their name out of that place. |
| 4 Vous n’aurez rien de semblable pour Yahvé votre Dieu. | 4 You shall not do so to the LORD your God. |
| 5 Au contraire, vous fréquenterez le lieu que Yahvé votre Dieu aura choisi au milieu de toutes vos tribus. C’est là que vous irez, car c’est là qu’il a fait habiter son Nom. | 5 But you shall seek the place which the LORD your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there; thither you shall go, |
| 6 Là vous offrirez vos holocaustes et vos sacrifices, vos dîmes et vos dons, vos offrandes votives et volontaires. Là vous amènerez les premiers-nés de votre gros et de votre petit bétail. | 6 and thither you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering that you present, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock; |
| 7 Là vous mangerez en présence de Yahvé votre Dieu et vous ferez la fête, vous et vos familles, pour tout ce que vous aurez reçu comme une bénédiction de Yahvé votre Dieu. | 7 and there you shall eat before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the LORD your God has blessed you. |
| 8 Vous ne ferez pas comme nous le faisons ici, où chacun agit selon ce qui lui semble bon, | 8 You shall not do according to all that we are doing here this day, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; |
| 9 car nous ne sommes pas encore arrivés au lieu de repos et à l’héritage que nous donne Yahvé notre Dieu. | 9 for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which the LORD your God gives you. |
| 10 Mais vous allez traverser le Jourdain. Vous allez habiter dans le pays que Yahvé votre Dieu remet entre vos mains, et lui fera que vos ennemis vous laissent en paix sur toutes vos frontières. Lorsque vous habiterez en paix, | 10 But when you go over the Jordan, and live in the land which the LORD your God gives you to inherit, and when he gives you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you live in safety, |
| 11 vous offrirez tout ce que je vous demande dans le lieu que Yahvé votre Dieu aura choisi pour y faire habiter son Nom: vos holocaustes et vos sacrifices, vos dîmes, vos dons et les offrandes de choix que vous présentez à Yahvé à l’occasion d’un vœu. | 11 then to the place which the LORD your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, thither you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering that you present, and all your votive offerings which you vow to the LORD. |
| 12 Là vous ferez la fête en présence de Yahvé votre Dieu, vous, vos fils et vos filles, vos serviteurs et vos servantes, sans oublier le Lévite qui habite au milieu de vous, car il n’a ni part ni héritage avec vous. | 12 And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your menservants and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your towns, since he has no portion or inheritance with you. |
| 13 Garde-toi bien d’offrir tes holocaustes en n’importe quel lieu que tu verras. | 13 Take heed that you do not offer your burnt offerings at every place that you see; |
| 14 C’est en effet au lieu que Yahvé aura choisi dans l’une des tribus, que tu offriras tes holocaustes; et c’est là que tu accompliras tout ce que je t’ordonne. | 14 but at the place which the LORD will choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I am commanding you. |
| 15 Tu pourras immoler et manger de la viande chez toi autant que tu le voudras et pour autant que Yahvé ton Dieu t’aura béni. Cette viande, on la mangera comme on mange de la gazelle ou du cerf, que l’on soit pur ou impur. | 15 "However, you may slaughter and eat flesh within any of your towns, as much as you desire, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which he has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and as of the hart. |
| 16 Bien sûr, vous ne mangerez pas le sang mais vous le verserez par terre comme de l’eau. | 16 Only you shall not eat the blood; you shall pour it out upon the earth like water. |
| 17 Mais tu ne pourras pas manger chez toi la dîme de ton blé, de ton vin ou de ton huile fraîche, ni les premiers-nés de tes vaches ou de tes brebis, ni les offrandes que tu apportes à l’occasion d’un vœu, ni tes offrandes volontaires, ni tout ce que tu offres à Yahvé. | 17 You may not eat within your towns the tithe of your grain or of your wine or of your oil, or the firstlings of your herd or of your flock, or any of your votive offerings which you vow, or your freewill offerings, or the offering that you present; |
| 18 C’est devant Yahvé ton Dieu, dans le lieu que Yahvé ton Dieu aura choisi, que tu les mangeras avec ton fils et ta fille, ton serviteur et ta servante, et avec le Lévite qui habite au milieu de toi. Tu feras la fête devant Yahvé ton Dieu grâce à tous les biens que tu auras acquis. | 18 but you shall eat them before the LORD your God in the place which the LORD your God will choose, you and your son and your daughter, your manservant and your maidservant, and the Levite who is within your towns; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God in all that you undertake. |
| 19 Dans ton pays, n’oublie surtout pas le Lévite, aussi longtemps que tu vivras. | 19 Take heed that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land. |
| 20 Yahvé ton Dieu élargira tes frontières comme il l’a promis. Si tu te dis alors: “Je veux manger de la viande”, tu pourras en manger toutes les fois que tu en désireras et que tu le voudras. | 20 "When the LORD your God enlarges your territory, as he has promised you, and you say, 'I will eat flesh,' because you crave flesh, you may eat as much flesh as you desire. |
| 21 Si le lieu que Yahvé ton Dieu choisira pour y faire habiter son Nom est alors trop loin de toi, tu pourras tuer les bœufs et les brebis que Yahvé t’a donnés, comme je te l’ai dit, et tu en mangeras chez toi toutes les fois que tu le voudras. | 21 If the place which the LORD your God will choose to put his name there is too far from you, then you may kill any of your herd or your flock, which the LORD has given you, as I have commanded you; and you may eat within your towns as much as you desire. |
| 22 Tu en mangeras comme on mange de la gazelle ou du cerf, et qu’on soit pur ou impur, on en mangera. | 22 Just as the gazelle or the hart is eaten, so you may eat of it; the unclean and the clean alike may eat of it. |
| 23 Seulement tu veilleras à ne pas manger le sang, car le sang, c’est l’âme; tu ne mangeras donc pas l’âme avec la viande. | 23 Only be sure that you do not eat the blood; for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh. |
| 24 Tu ne le mangeras pas mais tu le verseras par terre comme de l’eau. | 24 You shall not eat it; you shall pour it out upon the earth like water. |
| 25 Ne le mange pas si tu veux faire ce qui est juste au regard de Yahvé; ainsi tu vivras heureux, toi et tes enfants après toi. | 25 You shall not eat it; that all may go well with you and with your children after you, when you do what is right in the sight of the LORD. |
| 26 Par contre tu apporteras au lieu que Yahvé aura choisi, tout ce que tu lui consacreras, ainsi que tes offrandes à l’occasion d’un vœu. | 26 But the holy things which are due from you, and your votive offerings, you shall take, and you shall go to the place which the LORD will choose, |
| 27 Là, tu immoleras tes holocaustes avec la chair et le sang sur l’autel de Yahvé ton Dieu. Le sang de tes sacrifices sera répandu sur l’autel et tu en mangeras la chair. | 27 and offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, on the altar of the LORD your God; the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on the altar of the LORD your God, but the flesh you may eat. |
| 28 Observe toutes ces pratiques, écoute ce que je te commande et tout ira bien pour toi et pour tes fils après toi, pour toujours, aussi longtemps que tu feras ce qui est bon et juste au regard de Yahvé ton Dieu. | 28 Be careful to heed all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you for ever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the LORD your God. |
| 29 Quand Yahvé aura exterminé les peuplades du pays où tu entres et qu’il les aura dépossédées devant toi, le pays t’appartiendra et tu y habiteras. | 29 "When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, |
| 30 Mais attention, il ne faudrait pas que ces gens soient encore un piège pour toi après que tu les auras écrasés. Ne t’occupe pas de leurs dieux, ne demande pas: “Comment ces nations servent-elles leurs dieux? Ne faut-il pas que je fasse comme elles?” | 30 take heed that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, 'How did these nations serve their gods?--that I also may do likewise.' |
| 31 Non, tu ne feras pas comme elles pour servir Yahvé ton Dieu, car ces nations ont fait pour leurs dieux ce que Yahvé déteste, ce qui le dégoûte: elles ont même livré au feu en l’honneur de leurs dieux leurs fils et leurs filles. | 31 You shall not do so to the LORD your God; for every abominable thing which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. |
| 32 "Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to it or take from it. |
