1 On voyait tous les collecteurs de l’impôt et les pécheurs s’approcher de Jésus pour l’écouter.	1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.
2 Les Pharisiens et les maîtres de la Loi s’en plaignaient: "Cet homme, disaient-ils, fait bon accueil aux pécheurs et mange avec eux!”	2 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."
3 Aussi Jésus dit-il à leur intention cette parabole:	3 So he told them this parable:
4 "Imaginez que l’un d’entre vous possède 100 brebis, et il en a perdu une. Est-ce qu’il ne va pas laisser les 99 autres dans le désert, et courir après celle qui s’est perdue jusqu’à ce qu’il la retrouve?	4 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it?
5 Quand il l’a retrouvée, il la met tout joyeux sur ses épaules et,	5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 rentré chez lui, il rassemble amis et voisins et leur dit: ‘Partagez ma joie, car j’ai retrouvé ma brebis perdue!’	6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'
7 “Je vous le dis: Il y aura plus de joie dans le ciel pour un pécheur qui se repent que pour 99 justes qui n’ont pas besoin de se repentir.	7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
8 “Si une femme a dix pièces d’argent, et qu’elle en perd une, ne va-t-elle pas allumer une lampe, balayer la maison et chercher soigneusement jusqu’à ce qu’elle la trouve?	8 "Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?
9 Et quand elle l’a retrouvée, elle rassemble ses amies et voisines et leur dit: ‘Partagez ma joie, car j’ai retrouvé la pièce que j’avais perdue!’	9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.'
10 De même, je vous le dis, on est tout joyeux chez les anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui se repent.”	10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
11 Jésus dit encore: "Un homme avait deux fils.	11 And he said, "There was a man who had two sons;
12 Le plus jeune dit à son père: ‘Père, donne-moi la part du domaine qui me revient.’ Et le père leur partagea son bien.	12 and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of property that falls to me.' And he divided his living between them.
13 Le plus jeune fils ramassa tout et partit peu après pour un pays lointain où il dépensa son héritage dans une vie de désordres.	13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living.
14 “Quand il eut tout dépensé, une grande famine s’abattit sur ce pays et il commença à manquer de tout.	14 And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want.
15 Il alla donc se mettre au service d’un des habitants du pays qui l’envoya dans ses champs pour garder les cochons.	15 So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 Là il aurait bien voulu se remplir le ventre des caroubes que mangeaient les cochons, mais à lui, personne ne lui donnait rien.	16 And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything.
17 “Il rentra alors en lui-même: ‘Combien d’ouvriers de mon père, se dit-il, ont du pain plus qu’il n’en faut, et moi ici je meurs de faim.	17 But when he came to himself he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger!
18 Je vais me lever, retourner vers mon père, et je lui dirai: Père, j’ai péché contre le Ciel et devant toi.	18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you;
19 Je ne suis plus digne d’être appelé ton fils, mais prends-moi comme l’un de tes ouvriers.’	19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants."'
20 Il se mit donc en route et retourna chez son père. “Quand il était encore loin, son père l’aperçut et fut pris de pitié; il courut se jeter à son cou et l’embrassa tendrement.	20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
21 Le fils alors lui dit: ‘Père, j’ai péché contre le Ciel et devant toi, je ne suis plus digne d’être appelé ton fils.’	21 And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
22 “Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs: ‘Apportez vite la plus belle tunique et habillez-le, mettez-lui un anneau au doigt et des chaussures aux pieds.	22 But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet;
23 Allez chercher le veau gras et tuez-le, car il nous faut manger et faire la fête:	23 and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry;
24 mon fils que voici était mort et il est revenu à la vie, il était perdu et il est retrouvé.’ Et ils commencèrent à faire la fête.	24 for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to make merry.
25 “Le fils aîné était aux champs, mais il finit par rentrer. Comme il approchait de la maison, il entendit la musique et les danses.	25 "Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.
26 Il appela l’un des garçons et lui demanda ce qui se passait.	26 And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant.
27 L’autre lui répondit: ‘C’est ton frère qui est arrivé et ton père a tué le veau gras car il l’a retrouvé en bonne santé.’	27 And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.'
28 “Il se mit en colère. Comme il refusait d’entrer, son père sortit pour l’en prier.	28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,
29 Mais il répondit à son père: ‘Voilà tant d’années que je te sers sans avoir jamais désobéi à un seul de tes ordres, et à moi tu ne m’as jamais donné un chevreau pour faire la fête avec mes amis.	29 but he answered his father, 'Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends.
30 Mais lorsque revient ton fils que voilà, celui qui a mangé toute ta fortune avec les prostituées, tu fais tuer pour lui le veau gras!’	30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!'
31 “Le père lui dit: ‘Toi, mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi et tout ce qui est à moi est à toi.	31 And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32 C’est maintenant qu’il fallait faire la fête et se réjouir, car ton frère que voilà était mort et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu et il est retrouvé!’ ”	32 It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"
