| 1 Vision d’Abdias. Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Yahvé sur Édom: “Nous venons d’entendre un appel de Yahvé, un message qu’il fait parvenir aux nations: “Debout! Partons en guerre contre lui!” | 1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom: We have heard tidings from the LORD, and a messenger has been sent among the nations: "Rise up! let us rise against her for battle!" |
| 2 C’est fait! Te voilà le dernier des peuples, le plus méprisé de tous. | 2 Behold, I will make you small among the nations, you shall be utterly despised. |
| 3 L’orgueil de ton cœur t’a trompé, toi qui demeures aux roches de Pétra, accroché au flanc de la montagne, toi qui penses: “Qui me jettera à terre?” | 3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is high, who say in your heart, "Who will bring me down to the ground?" |
| 4 Eh bien, élève-toi comme l’aigle, fais ton nid au milieu des étoiles: je t’en ferai descendre, parole de Yahvé. | 4 Though you soar aloft like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, thence I will bring you down, says the LORD. |
| 5 Si des voleurs viennent chez toi, des pillards de nuit, ils prendront tout ce qu’ils voudront. Si les vendangeurs viennent chez toi, que laisseront-ils à grappiller? | 5 If thieves came to you, if plunderers by night--how you have been destroyed!--would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings? |
| 6 On a fouillé Ésaü, on a découvert toutes ses cachettes! | 6 How Esau has been pillaged, his treasures sought out! |
| 7 On t’a reconduit à la frontière, et c’étaient tes amis! Tes alliés ont été plus forts que toi, ils t’avaient tendu un piège. | 7 All your allies have deceived you, they have driven you to the border; your confederates have prevailed against you; your trusted friends have set a trap under you-- there is no understanding of it. |
| 8 En ce jour-là, parole de Yahvé, j’en finirai avec les sages d’Édom, avec les astuces de la montagne d’Ésaü. | 8 Will I not on that day, says the LORD, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of Mount Esau? |
| 9 Tes guerriers, ô Téman, sont glacés de peur: on massacre les hommes des monts d’Ésaü. | 9 And your mighty men shall be dismayed, O Teman, so that every man from Mount Esau will be cut off by slaughter. |
| 10 N’avais-tu pas brutalisé ton frère Jacob? Pour cela tu seras couvert de honte et tu disparaîtras pour toujours. | 10 For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off for ever. |
| 11 Lorsque des étrangers capturaient son armée, tu n’étais pas loin, à l’affût; le jour où ils franchissaient ses portes et se partagaient Jérusalem au sort, tu étais toi aussi parmi eux. | 11 On the day that you stood aloof, on the day that strangers carried off his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them. |
| 12 Ne te réjouis pas de la ruine de ton frère au jour de son malheur, ne te moque pas des fils de Juda, ne ris pas de leur misère. | 12 But you should not have gloated over the day of your brother in the day of his misfortune; you should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah in the day of their ruin; you should not have boasted in the day of distress. |
| 13 Ne viens pas regarder à la porte le jour où mon peuple est éprouvé; faut-il que toi aussi tu le voies souffrir au jour de son malheur? N’en profite pas pour rafler ses biens. | 13 You should not have entered the gate of my people in the day of his calamity; you should not have gloated over his disaster in the day of his calamity; you should not have looted his goods in the day of his calamity. |
| 14 Ne va pas te poster sur le chemin pour massacrer les fugitifs, pour capturer les rescapés au jour de leur malheur. | 14 You should not have stood at the parting of the ways to cut off his fugitives; you should not have delivered up his survivors in the day of distress. |
| 15 Déjà vient pour les nations le jour de Yahvé: comme tu as fait on te fera, la vengeance viendra sur toi. | 15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you, your deeds shall return on your own head. |
| 16 Comme vous avez bu sur ma montagne sainte, ainsi boirez-vous, nations qui m’entourez, vous boirez à en perdre la tête et vous disparaîtrez sans laisser de traces. | 16 For as you have drunk upon my holy mountain, all the nations round about shall drink; they shall drink, and stagger, and shall be as though they had not been. |
| 17 Mais il y aura des rescapés sur le mont Sion devenu un lieu saint, la maison de Jacob retrouvera son héritage. | 17 But in Mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions. |
| 18 La maison de Jacob sera un feu, la maison de Joseph, une flamme, et les gens d’Ésaü seront la paille brûlée par eux, dévorée! Pas de rescapés chez les gens d’Ésaü - parole de Yahvé. | 18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble; they shall burn them and consume them, and there shall be no survivor to the house of Esau; for the LORD has spoken. |
| 19 Les habitants du Négueb occuperont la montagne d’Ésaü, et ceux de la Séféla, la terre des Philistins; ils hériteront du pays d’Éphraïm et de la campagne de Samarie, et ceux de Benjamin hériteront de Galaad. | 19 Those of the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau, and those of the Shephelah the land of the Philistines; they shall possess the land of Ephraim and the land of Samaria and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. |
| 20 Les déportés d’Israël domineront le pays des Cananéens jusqu’à Sarepta et les déportés de Jérusalem qui demeurent à Séfarad hériteront des villes du Négueb; | 20 The exiles in Halah who are of the people of Israel shall possess Phoenicia as far as Zarephath; and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad shall possess the cities of the Negeb. |
| 21 ils monteront victorieux à la colline de Sion, et de là ils gouverneront la montagne d’Ésaü; alors Yahvé agira en roi. | 21 Saviors shall go up to Mount Zion to rule Mount Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORDs. |
