| 5 Mais que vois-je? Ils ont peur, ils tournent bride; les plus braves sont mis en fuite, ils fuient sans se retourner. Partout c’est la panique - parole de Yahvé. | 5 Why have I seen it? They are dismayed and have turned backward. Their warriors are beaten down, and have fled in haste; they look not back--terror on every side! says the LORD. |
| 6 Le plus agile ne peut échapper, le plus brave ne se sauve pas! Au nord, sur les rives de l’Euphrate, ils ont trébuché, ils sont tombés. | 6 The swift cannot flee away, nor the warrior escape; in the north by the river Euphrates they have stumbled and fallen. |
| 7 Qui donc montait comme le Nil, comme un fleuve aux eaux bouillonnantes? | 7 "Who is this, rising like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge? |

L’épée dévore et veut se rassasier, s’enivrer du sang des victimes; le Seigneur Yahvé célèbre un sacrifice aux rives de l’Euphrate sur les terres du nord. | 10 That day is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. | 12 Les nations ont appris ta défaite, les échos de ta chute ont rempli le monde, car un guerrier a trébuché sur l’autre, ils sont tombés tous ensemble! | 12 The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for warrior has stumbled against warrior; they have both fallen together." |
| 13 Voici la parole que Yahvé adressa au prophète Jérémie lorsque Nabukodonozor roi de Babel vint combattre l’Égypte: | 13 The word which the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon to smite the land of Egypt: |
| 14 Annoncez-le à Migdol, faites-le savoir à Nof et à Tahpanhès, dites leur de se lever, de se préparer, car déjà l’épée a dévoré les environs. | 14 "Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol; proclaim in Memphis and Tahpanhes; Say, 'Stand ready and be prepared, for the sword shall devour round about you.' |
| 15 Pourquoi Apis s’est-il enfui? Ton taureau n’a-t-il pu résister? Mais non, Yahvé l’a bousculé, | 15 Why has Apis fled? Why did not your bull stand? Because the LORD thrust him down. |
| 16 il a chancelé, il est tombé. L’un à l’autre ils se disent: “Debout, regagnons notre peuple, notre terre natale, fuyons les ravages de l’épée!” | 16 Your multitude stumbled and fell, and they said one to another, 'Arise, and let us go back to our own people and to the land of our birth, because of the sword of the oppressor.' |
| 17 Donnez ce nom à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte: “Bien du bruit quand il est trop tard”. | 17 Call the name of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, 'Noisy one who lets the hour go by.' |
| 18 Aussi vrai que je vis - parole du Roi, qui s’appelle Yahvé Sabaot, vient un guerrier, un ennemi, semblable au Thabor parmi les montagnes, comme le Carmel au dessus de la mer. | 18 "As I live, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, shall one come. |

| 21 On voyait chez elle ses mercenaires, comme des veaux à l’engrais sur ses terres; même eux ont tourné le dos, tous ont lâché pied et se sont enfuis; c’est que le jour fatal était arrivé, celui des règlements de compte. | 21 Even her hired soldiers in her midst are like fatted calves; yea, they have turned and fled together, they did not stand; for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment. |
| 22 Elle siffle comme serpent qui s’enfuit, car vers elle on arrive en force, pour l’abattre avec la hache, comme fait pour l’arbre le bûcheron. | 22 "She makes a sound like a serpent gliding away; for her enemies march in force, and come against her with axes, like those who fell trees. |
| 23 Ils ont coupé sa forêt - parole de Yahvé, on ne pouvait y pénétrer; Ils sont venus comme des sauterelles, si nombreux qu’on ne peut les compter. | 23 They shall cut down her forest, says the LORD, though it is impenetrable, because they are more numerous than locusts; they are without number. |
| 24 La fille de l’Égypte est couverte de honte, elle s’est vue livrée au peuple du nord. | 24 The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame, she shall be delivered into the hand of a people from the north." |
| 25 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Je m’en vais visiter Amon de No et le Pharaon, l’Égypte avec ses dieux et ses rois; le Pharaon et tous ceux qui mettent en lui leur confiance. | 25 The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, said: "Behold, I am bringing punishment upon Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt and her gods and her kings, upon Pharaoh and those who trust in him. |
| 26 Je les livrerai aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; aux mains de Nabukodonozor roi de Babel, et aux mains de ses serviteurs. Mais ensuite l’Égypte sera habitée comme elle l’était autrefois - parole de Yahvé. | 26 I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their life, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and his officers. Afterward Egypt shall be inhabited as in the days of old, says the LORD. |
| 27 Quant à toi, mon serviteur Jacob, ne crains pas; ne tremble pas Israël, car je viens pour te sauver des pays lointains et ramener tes descendants de leur exil; Jacob reviendra et connaîtra la paix; il sera en sécurité, nul ne l’inquiétera. | 27 "But fear not, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel; for lo, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid. |
| 28 Sois sans crainte, Jacob, mon serviteur - parole de Yahvé, car je suis avec toi. Je détruirai toutes les nations où je t’avais dispersé, mais toi je ne te détruirai pas; je te corrigerai avec justice, ce ne sera pas ma vengeance. | 28 Fear not, O Jacob my servant, says the LORD, for I am with you. I will make a full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will chasten you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished." |
