| 1 Salomon engagea 70 000 porteurs, 80 000 hommes pour tailler la pierre dans les collines et 3 600 pour les surveiller. | 1 Now Solomon purposed to build a temple for the name of the LORD, and a royal palace for himself. |
| 2 Salomon envoya alors ce message à Hiram, roi de Tyr: “Fais pour moi comme pour mon père David lorsque tu lui as envoyé des cèdres pour construire son palais. | 2 And Solomon assigned seventy thousand men to bear burdens and eighty thousand to quarry in the hill country, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them. |
| 3 À mon tour je vais construire une Maison pour le Nom de Yahvé mon Dieu; je la consacrerai, j’y ferai fumer devant lui l’encens parfumé, j’y aurai aussi les pains disposés en rangées à perpétuité; j’y offrirai des holocaustes le matin et le soir, durant les sabbats, les Nouvelles Lunes et les jours de fête en l’honneur de Yahvé notre Dieu, selon la loi fixée à jamais pour Israël. | 3 And Solomon sent word to Huram the king of Tyre: "As you dealt with David my father and sent him cedar to build himself a house to dwell in, so deal with me. |
| 4 La maison que je vais construire sera vaste, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux. | 4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the LORD my God and dedicate it to him for the burning of incense of sweet spices before him, and for the continual offering of the showbread, and for burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths and the new moons and the appointed feasts of the LORD our God, as ordained for ever for Israel. |
| 5 Pourtant personne ne peut réellement bâtir un temple pour Dieu, car les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne peuvent le contenir: qui donc pourrait prétendre lui construire une Maison pour y faire fumer l’encens devant lui? | 5 The house which I am to build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods. |
| 6 Aussi envoie-moi un homme habile à travailler l’or, l’argent, le bronze, le fer, la pourpre rouge, les étoffes de couleur et la pourpre violette; qu’il soit également doué pour la gravure. Il travaillera avec mes artisans que David, mon père, a rassemblés en Juda et à Jérusalem. | 6 But who is able to build him a house, since heaven, even highest heaven, cannot contain him? Who am I to build a house for him, except as a place to burn incense before him? |
| 7 Envoie-moi du Liban du bois de cèdre, du cyprès, du bois de santal, car je sais que tes serviteurs savent abattre des arbres du Liban; mes serviteurs travailleront avec les tiens. | 7 So now send me a man skilled to work in gold, silver, bronze, and iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue fabrics, trained also in engraving, to be with the skilled workers who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided. |
| 8 Ils me prépareront du bois en quantité, puisque la maison que je désire construire doit être grande et magnifique. | 8 Send me also cedar, cypress, and algum timber from Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And my servants will be with your servants, |
| 9 Je donnerai pour la nourriture de tes serviteurs, pour les bûcherons qui couperont les arbres, 20 000 mesures de blé, 20 000 mesures d’orge, 20 000 mesures de vin, 20 000 mesures d’huile.” | 9 to prepare timber for me in abundance, for the house I am to build will be great and wonderful. |
| 10 Dans une lettre envoyée au roi Salomon, Hiram, roi de Tyr, répondit: “Si Yahvé t’a fait roi, c’est parce qu’il aime son peuple. | 10 I will give for your servants, the hewers who cut timber, twenty thousand cors of crushed wheat, twenty thousand cors of barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil." |
| 11 Béni soit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, celui qui a fait le ciel et la terre! Il a donné au roi David un fils sage, rempli de bon sens et d’intelligence, qui va construire une Maison pour Yahvé et un palais royal. | 11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in a letter which he sent to Solomon, "Because the LORD loves his people he has made you king over them." |
| 12 Je t’envoie donc un habile artisan, intelligent: Houram-Abi, | 12 Huram also said, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given King David a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD, and a royal palace for himself. |
| 13 sa mère est une fille de Dan et son père est de Tyr. Il est habile à travailler l’or, l’argent, le bronze, le fer, la pierre, le bois, la pourpre rouge et violette, le lin fin et les étoffes de couleur, habile aussi pour toute sorte de gravure et pour exécuter tout projet qu’on lui soumet. Il travaillera avec tes artisans et ceux de mon seigneur David, ton père. | 13 "Now I have sent a skilled man, endued with understanding, Huram-abi, |
| 14 Aussi, que mon seigneur envoie dès maintenant à ses serviteurs le blé, l’orge, l’huile et le vin dont il a parlé. | 14 the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre. He is trained to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood, and in purple, blue, and crimson fabrics and fine linen, and to do all sorts of engraving and execute any design that may be assigned him, with your craftsmen, the craftsmen of my lord, David your father. |
| 15 De notre côté, nous allons abattre les arbres du Liban dont tu as besoin. Nous les enverrons par mer sur des radeaux jusqu’à Joppé; de là, tu les feras transporter à Jérusalem.” | 15 Now therefore the wheat and barley, oil and wine, of which my lord has spoken, let him send to his servants; |
| 16 Salomon fit alors le compte de tous les étrangers qui vivaient sur la terre d’Israël, d’après le recensement que David son père avait fait; il en dénombra 153 600. | 16 and we will cut whatever timber you need from Lebanon, and bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa, so that you may take it up to Jerusalem." |
| 17 Il en désigna 70 000 comme porteurs, 80 000 pour extraire les pierres dans la montagne et 3 600 comme surveillants pour faire travailler le peuple. | 17 Then Solomon took a census of all the aliens who were in the land of Israel, after the census of them which David his father had taken; and there were found a hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred. |
| 18 Seventy thousand of them he assigned to bear burdens, eighty thousand to quarry in the hill country, and three thousand six hundred as overseers to make the people work. |
