1 Après cela David battit les Philistins et ils lui furent soumis: David mit fin au pouvoir philistin.	1 After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 Il battit de même les Moabites. Il les fit coucher à terre et mesurer avec un cordeau; on en mesurait deux cordeaux qui étaient mis à mort, et un cordeau à qui on laissait la vie. Les Moabites devinrent un peuple soumis qui payait un tribut à David.	2 And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground; two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.
3 David battit Hadadézer, fils de Réhob, roi de Saba, lorsque celui-ci fit une expédition pour redevenir maître du Fleuve.	3 David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates.
4 Il lui prit 1 700 combattants des chars et 20 000 hommes de pied. David coupa les jarrets de tous les attelages: il n’en garda que 100.	4 And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left enough for a hundred chariots.
5 Les Araméens de Damas voulurent porter secours à Hadadézer, roi de Saba, mais David leur tua 20 000 hommes.	5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.
6 Après cela David établit des gouverneurs dans la région de Damas et les Araméens furent soumis à David: ils lui payaient un tribu. C’est ainsi que Yahvé donna la victoire à David partout où il allait.	6 Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.
7 David prit les boucliers d’or que portaient les gardes de Hadadézer et les emmena à Jérusalem.	7 And David took the shields of gold which were carried by the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 Le roi David enleva encore une énorme quantité de bronze à Tébah et à Bérotaï, les villes de Hadadézer.	8 And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.
9 Lorsque Toou, roi de Hamat, apprit que David avait écrasé l’armée de Hadadézer,	9 When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer,
10 il envoya son fils Hadoram à David pour le saluer et le féliciter d’avoir fait la guerre à Hadadézer et de l’avoir vaincu. Hadadézer en effet était toujours en guerre avec Toou. Hadoram apporta des objets en argent, en or et en bronze.	10 Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to greet him, and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him; for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze;
11 Le roi David consacra le tout à Yahvé, en même temps que l’argent et l’or provenant de toutes les nations qu’il avait soumises:	11 these also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and gold which he dedicated from all the nations he subdued,
12 Aram, Moab, les Ammonites, les Philistins, Amalec; il y avait là, bien entendu, le trésor qu’il avait pris à Hadadézer, fils de Réob, roi de Saba.	12 from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
13 David se rendit célèbre encore lorsqu’il revint d’avoir battu les Édomites dans la vallée du Sel: ils étaient 18 000.	13 And David won a name for himself. When he returned, he slew eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
14 Il établit des gouverneurs en Édom et tous les Édomites furent soumis à David. Yahvé donnait la victoire à David partout où il allait.	14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.
15 David régna sur tout Israël, il rendait le droit et faisait justice à son peuple,	15 So David reigned over all Israel; and David administered justice and equity to all his people.
16 Joab, fils de Sérouya commandait l’armée, Yochafat, fils d’Ahiloud était le porte-parole,	16 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;
17 Sadoq et Ébyatar, fils d’Ahimélek, fils d’Ahitoub, étaient prêtres, Séraya était secrétaire;	17 and Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests; and Seraiah was secretary;
18 Bénayas, fils de Yoyada commandait la garde des Kérétiens et des Pélétiens, les fils de David étaient prêtres.	18 and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were priests.
