1 Israël partit donc avec tout ce qu’il possédait, et il arriva à Bersabée où il offrit des sacrifices au Dieu de son père Isaac.	1 So Israel set out with al his possessions. Arriving at Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of hisfather Isaac.
2 Durant la nuit, Dieu parla à Israël dans une vision: “Jacob! Jacob!” lui dit-il. Il répondit: “Me voici!”	2 God spoke to Israel in a vision at night, 'Jacob, Jacob,' he said. 'Here I am,' he replied.
3 Dieu lui dit: “Je suis le Dieu de ton père! Ne crains pas de descendre en Égypte, car je ferai de toi une grande nation.	3 'I am El, God of your father,' he said. 'Do not be afraid of going down to Egypt, for I will make you intoa great nation there.
4 Je descendrai avec toi en Égypte et je t’en ferai remonter. Et c’est Joseph qui te fermera les yeux.”	4 I shal go down to Egypt with you and I myself shall bring you back again, and Joseph's hand wilclose your eyes.'
5 Jacob quitta donc Bersabée et les fils d’Israël transportèrent leur père Jacob avec leurs petits enfants et leurs femmes, sur les chariots que Pharaon avait envoyés pour les transporter.	5 So Jacob left Beersheba. Israel's sons conveyed their father Jacob, their little children and their wivesin the waggons Pharaoh had sent to fetch him.
6 Ils prirent leurs troupeaux et tout ce qu’ils avaient amassé au pays de Canaan, et c’est ainsi que Jacob et toute sa famille avec lui entrèrent en Égypte.	6 Taking their livestock and all that they had acquired in Canaan, they arrived in Egypt -- Jacob and alhis offspring.
7 Il emmena toute sa descendance en Égypte: ses fils et ses filles avec tous leurs enfants.	7 With him to Egypt, he brought his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters -- al hisoffspring.
8 Voici les noms des fils d’Israël qui entrèrent en Égypte, c’est-à-dire Jacob et sa descendance: Premier-né de Jacob: Ruben.	8 These were the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who arrived in Egypt: Reuben,Jacob's first-born,
9 Fils de Ruben: Hénok, Pallu, Hesron, Karmi.	9 and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pal u, Hezron and Carmi.
10 Fils de Siméon: Yémouel, Yamin, Ohad, Yakin, Sokar, et Chaoul, le fils de la Cananéenne.	10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of the Canaanitewoman.
11 Fils de Lévi: Guerchon, Kahat, Mérari.	11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

15 Voilà les fils que Léa donna à Jacob, à Paddân-Aram, ainsi que sa fille Dinah. Ses fils et ses filles étaient 33 personnes au total.	15 These were the sons that Leah had borne to Jacob in Paddan-Aram, besides his daughter Dinah; inal , his sons and daughters numbered thirty-three.
16 Fils de Gad: Sifion, Haggi, Chouni, Esbon, Éri, Arodi, Aréli.	16 The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli.
17 Fils d’Asher: Yimna, Yichva, Yichvi, Béria et Sérah, leur sœur. Fils de Béria: Héber et Malkiel.	17 The sons of Asher: Jimnah, Jishvah, Jishvi, Beriah, with their sister Serah; the sons of Beriah: Heberand Malchiel.
18 Ce sont là les fils que Zilpa avait donnés à Jacob. Au total: 16 personnes. Zilpa était l’esclave que Laban avait donnée à sa fille Léa.	18 These were the sons of Zilpah whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; she bore these to Jacob --sixteen persons.
19 Fils de Rachel, femme de Jacob: Joseph et Benjamin.	19 The sons of Rachel wife of Jacob: Joseph and Benjamin.
20 En Égypte, Asnat, fille de Poti-Phéra, prêtre d’On, donna à Joseph deux fils: Manassé et Éphraïm.	20 Born to Joseph in Egypt were: Manasseh and Ephraim sons of Asenath, daughter of Potiphera priestof On.
21 Fils de Benjamin: Béla, Béker, Achbel, Guéra, Naaman, Ékhi, Roch, Moupim, Houpim et Ard.	21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.
22 Voilà les fils que Rachel donna à Jacob. Au total: 14 personnes.	22 These were the sons that Rachel bore to Jacob -- fourteen persons in al .
23 Fils de Dan: Houchim.	23 The sons of Dan: Hushim.
24 Fils de Nephtali: Yakhséel, Gouni, Yéser et Chillem.	24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer and Shil em.
25 Ce sont là les fils que Bila avait donnés à Jacob. Au total: 7 personnes. Bila était la servante que Laban avait donnée à sa fille Rachel.	25 These were the sons of Bilhah whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel; she bore these to Jacob --seven persons in all.
26 Le total des personnes qui entrèrent en Égypte avec Jacob, tous de sa descendance, sans compter les femmes des fils de Jacob, était de 66. C’est le total des personnes.	26 Altogether, the members of Jacob's family who arrived with him in Egypt -- his own issue, notcounting the wives of Jacob's sons -- numbered sixty-six all told.
27 Quant aux fils que Joseph eut en Égypte, ils étaient deux; le total des personnes de la maison de Jacob qui s’installèrent en Égypte était donc de 70.	27 With Joseph's sons born to him in Egypt -- two persons -- the members of Jacob's family who wentto Egypt totalled seventy.
28 Avant d’entrer dans le pays de Gossen, Jacob envoya devant lui Juda à la rencontre de Joseph pour le prévenir de son arrivée au pays de Gossen.	28 Israel sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that Judah might present himself to Joseph in Goshen. Whenthey arrived in Goshen,
29 Joseph attela son char et partit à la rencontre d’Israël, son père, en Gossen. Il se présenta devant lui, se jeta à son cou et pleura longuement dans ses bras.	29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as heappeared he threw his arms round his neck and for a long time wept on his shoulder.
30 Israël dit à Joseph: Maintenant je peux mourir, car j’ai revu ton visage et je sais que tu es en vie.”	30 Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I can die, now that I have seen you in person and seen you stil alive.'
31 Joseph dit à ses frères et à la famille de son père: “Je m’en vais avertir le Pharaon. Je lui dirai: Mes frères et la famille de mon père qui étaient en Canaan sont venus me rejoindre.	31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and his father's family, 'I shall go back and break the news toPharaoh. I shall tel him, "My brothers and my father's family who were in Canaan have come to me.
32 Ces hommes sont des bergers de petit bétail, ils sont éleveurs de troupeaux. Ils ont amené leur petit bétail et leur gros bétail, ainsi que tout ce qu’ils possédaient.	32 The men are shepherds and look after livestock, and they have brought their flocks and cattle and altheir possessions."
33 Lorsque le Pharaon vous appellera et vous dira: Que faisiez-vous?	33 Thus, when Pharaoh summons you and asks, "What is your occupation?",
34 vous répondrez: Tes serviteurs ont été éleveurs de bêtes depuis leur jeunesse jusqu’à ce jour. C’est ce que nous faisons, comme le faisaient nos pères.	34 you are to say, "Ever since our boyhood your servants have looked after livestock, we and ourfathers before us," so that you can stay in the Goshen region -- for the Egyptians have a horror of al shepherds.'
