Prima Epistola di Santo Paulo a Timoteo 6

1 Quelli che son sotto il giogo servi, pensino di fare ogni onore al loro signore; chè il nome di Cristo non sia biastemato e la sua dottrina.	1 Al those under the yoke of slavery must have unqualified respect for their masters, so that the name ofGod and our teaching are not brought into disrepute.
2 Ma quelli che hanno li loro signori fedeli (e cristiani), non li abbiano però in contento; anzi maggiormente servano a coloro che son fedeli, operatori del bene, e partefici del beneficio. Queste cose ammaestra, e conforta che si facciano.	2 Those whose masters are believers are not to respect them less because they are brothers; on thecontrary, they should serve them al the better, since those who have the benefit of their services are believersand dear to God. This is what you are to teach and urge.
3 E se alcuno ammaestrarà in altra guisa, e non crederà alle salutari parole del nostro Signore Iesù Cristo, e a quella dottrina ch' è secondo pietà;	3 Anyone who teaches anything different and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of ourLord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion,
4 quello è superbo, e non sa nulla; ma è infermato intorno alle questioni e alle battaglie delle parole; delle quali questioni nascono le invidie, contenzioni e biasteme e mali pensieri,	4 is proud and has no understanding, but rather a weakness for questioning everything and arguing aboutwords. Al that can come of this is jealousy, contention, abuse and evil mistrust;
5 e (specialmente) le conflittazioni delli uomini corruttori delle menti, di quelli uomini che son (partiti) privati della verità, e pensano che la pietà sia per guadagno.	5 and unending disputes by people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth, and imagine thatreligion is a way of making a profit.
6 Ma la pietà è grande guadagno con la sufficienza.	6 Religion, of course, does bring large profits, but only to those who are content with what they have.
7 Niuna cosa adducemmo in questo mondo; e senza dubbio niente ne potremo portare.	7 We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it;
8 Dunque abiendo vitto e vestimento, di queste cose siamo contenti.	8 but as long as we have food and clothing, we shal be content with that.
9 Chè quelli che vogliono diventare ricchi caggiono in tentazione, e in laccio del diavolo, e in molti desiderii inutili e nocevoli, li quali menano l'uomo in perdizione e in mala morte.	9 People who long to be rich are a prey to trial; they get trapped into all sorts of foolish and harmfulambitions which plunge people into ruin and destruction.
10 La radice di ogni male è la cupidità, la qual alquanti dimandandola, son errati dalla fede, e son entrati in molti dolori.	10 'The love of money is the root of all evils' and there are some who, pursuing it, have wandered awayfrom the faith and so given their souls any number of fatal wounds.
11 Ma tu, uomo di Dio, fuggi da queste cose, e sèguita la giustizia, la pietà e la fede, e la carità e la pazienza e la mansuetudine.	11 But, as someone dedicated to God, avoid al that. You must aim to be upright and religious, fil ed withfaith and love, perseverance and gentleness.
12 Combatti buono combattimento per la fede, e piglia la vita eternale, nella quale tu se' chiamato, e ha'la confessata di buona confessione dinanzi a molti testimonii.	12 Fight the good fight of faith and win the eternal life to which you were cal ed and for which you madeyour noble profession of faith before many witnesses.
13 Comandoti dinanzi a Dio, il quale fa vivere tutte le cose, e dinanzi a Cristo Iesù, il quale rendette testimonianza sotto Ponzio Pilato, di buona confessione,	13 Now, before God, the source of all life, and before Jesus Christ, who witnessed to his noble professionof faith before Pontius Pilate, I charge you
14 che tu servi il comandamento senza macula, che non si possa riprendere, insino all' avvenimento del nostro Signore Iesù Cristo;	14 to do al that you have been told, with no faults or failures, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 il quale ne' suoi tempi si dimostrarà potente, solo e beato, re de' re, e signore de' signori;	15 who at the due time wil be revealed by God, the blessed and only Ruler of al , the King of kings andthe Lord of lords,
16 il quale solo non ha mortalità in sè, e abita nella luce nella qual non si può altri approssimare (nè andare), nè non lo vidde ancora niuno degli uomini, nè non lo può vedere; al qual Dio sia (gloria e) onore e imperio sempiternalmente (nel secolo de' secoli). Amen.	16 who alone is immortal, whose home is in inaccessible light, whom no human being has seen or is ableto see: to him be honour and everlasting power. Amen.
17 Comanda alli ricchi di questo secolo, che non sentano (nelle grandi cose, nè) in grande altezza, e che non abbiano speranza in quelle ricchezze che non son certe nè ferme; anzi abbiano speranza in Dio vivo, il quale dà a noi tutte le cose abbondevolmente a usare (e a ben fare).	17 Instruct those who are rich in this world's goods that they should not be proud and should set theirhopes not on money, which is untrustworthy, but on God who gives us richly al that we need for our happiness.
18 E confortali a ben fare, che si studiino d'essere ricchi di buone opere, e che largamente donino (per Dio le cose temporali), e di fare convivali le cose loro,	18 They are to do good and be rich in good works, generous in giving and always ready to share-
19 e che si guadagnino buono fondamento nella fine, sì che possano pervenire alla vera vita.	19 this is the way they can amass a good capital sum for the future if they want to possess the only lifethat is real.
20 O Timoteo, guarda il deposito (della grazia che è in te), e schifa le escomunicate novità delle voci, e gli apponimenti del falso nome di scienza,	20 My dear Timothy, take great care of al that has been entrusted to you. Turn away from godlessphilosophical discussions and the contradictions of the 'knowledge' which is not knowledge at al ;
21 il quale alquanti promettenti cascarono circa alla fede. La grazia (del Signore Iesù Cristo) sia teco. Amen.	21 by adopting this, some have missed the goal of faith. Grace be with you.
