BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non attendere alle inique possessioni, e non dirai: la vita mi basta; nulla ti gioverae questo nel tempo della vendetta e della morte.	1 Do not put your confidence in your money or say, 'With this I am self-sufficient.'
2 Non seguirai nella fortitudine tua la concupiscenza del cuore tuo.	2 Do not be led by your appetites and energy to follow the passions of your heart.
3 E non dirai: quanto posso io! or chi sottometterae me per li miei fatti? Per che Iddio giudicante vendicherae.	3 And do not say, 'Who has authority over me?' for the Lord will certainly give you your deserts.
4 Non dire or io peccai; che cosa trista per quello m'avvenne? Però che l' Altissimo è paziente meritatore.	4 Do not say, 'I have sinned, but what harm has befal en me?' for the Lord's forbearance is long.
5 Nello umiliamento de' peccatori non essere tu sanza paura; non accumulare peccato sopra peccato,	5 Do not be so sure of forgiveness that you add sin to sin.
6 dicendo: la misericordia di Dio è grande egli averà misericordia della moltitudine de' miei peccati.	6 And do not say, 'His compassion is great, he will forgive me my many sins'; for with him are both mercyand retribution, and his anger does not pass from sinners.
7 Però che la misericordia e l'ira di colui tosto s' approssima; e l'ira sua guata nelli peccatori.	7 Do not delay your return to the Lord, do not put it off day after day; for suddenly the Lord's wrath wilblaze out, and on the day of punishment you wil be utterly destroyed.
8 Non tardare di convertirti a Dio, e non t' indugiare di dì in dì.	8 Do not set your heart on il -gotten gains, they wil be of no use to you on the day of disaster.
9 Però che subito viene l'ira di colui; e nel tempo della vendetta disperderae te.	9 Do not winnow in every wind, or walk along every by-way (as the double-talking sinner does).
10 Non essere sollecito nelle ingiuste ricchezze; nulla per certo ti gioveranno nel dì della morte e della vendetta.	10 Be steady in your convictions, and be a person of your word.
11 Non ti ventolare in ogni vento, e non andare in ogni via; in questo modo si prova, quando il peccatore è di doppia lingua.	11 Be quick to listen, and deliberate in giving an answer.
12 Sii fermo nella via di Dio, e nella verità del senno tuo e nella scienza; e sèguitino te parole di pace e di giustizia.	12 If you understand the matter, give your neighbour an answer, if not, keep your hand over your mouth.
13 Sii mansueto ad udire la parola (di Dio), acciò che tu intenda, e con sapienza proferi vera risposta.	13 Both honour and disgrace come from talking, the tongue is its owner's downfal .
14 Se tu hai intelletto, rispondi al prossimo; e se non, poni la mano tua sopra la bocca tua, acciò che tu non sia preso nel parlare sciocco, e sia tu confuso.	14 Do not get a name for scandal-mongering, do not set traps with your tongue; for as shame lies in storefor the thief, so harsh condemnation awaits the deceitful.
15 Onore e gloria è nel sermone savio; ma la lingua del matto è sua sovversione.	15 Avoid offences in great as in smal matters, and do not exchange friendship for enmity,
16 Non si chiamato biasimatore altrui (in tua vita), acciò che per la tua lingua non si preso, nel favellare) e confuso.
17 Sopra al ladro sì è confusione e pentimento, e al doppio infamia pessima; e allo biasimatore (e allo iscommettitore) sì è voluto male, e fatto ingiuria e villania.
18 Al picciolo e al grande insiememente loda.
