1 Io certamente sono uomo mortale, simile alli uomini, e della generazione della terra di colui che prima fu fatto, e fui figurato carne nel ventre della madre.	1 Certainly, I myself am also a mortal man, like everyone, and the offspring of this earth, which was made beforehand; and in my mother’s womb I was fashioned with care,
2 Per tempo di X mesi rappreso fui in sangue, del seme dell' uomo, e di dilettamento convenevole di sonno.	2 within the time of ten months, made of blood, from the seed of man and the delight of sleeping together.
3 E io nato presi il comune aere, e simigliantemente giù cadetti nella fatta terra, e misi la prima voce piagnendo, simile agli altri tutti che nascono.	3 And when I was born, I drew in the common air, and in similar fashion, I fell upon the earth, and the first voice I uttered, like everyone, was crying.
4 Nelle fasce sono nutricato in grande sollecitudine.	4 I was nursed in swaddling clothes and with great care.
5 Nullo delli re ebbe altro principio della sua natività.	5 For none of the kings had any other beginning of birth.
6 Adunque hanno una medesima entrata tutti alla vita, e simile uscita.	6 Therefore, there is only one entrance for everyone into life, and the same in leaving.
7 Per questo desiderai io senno, e fummi dato; e invocai lo spirito della sapienza, e quello venne a me.	7 Because of this, I chose, and understanding was given to me; and I prayed, and the spirit of wisdom came to me;
8 E antimisi quella alli regni e alle sedie regali, e dissi che le ricchezze erano niente in comparazione di quella.	8 and I placed her before kingdoms and thrones, and I considered riches nothing in comparison with her.
9 E non agguagliai a lei la pietra preziosa; perciò che tutto l'oro per rispetto della sapienza si è come uno poco d' arena, e l'argento all' agguaglianza di quella fia riputato fango.	9 Neither did I compare to her a precious stone, for all gold in comparison with her is like a little sand, and silver, in view of her, will be valued as if dirt.
10 Io l'amai più che la mia salute, o che bellezza, e proposi nel mio animo d'averla per mia luce; però che il suo lume non si puote spegnere.	10 I loved her above health and beauty, and I placed having her before light, for her light is unfailing.
11 Tutti li beni con lei parimente vennero a me, e la onestade che viene per le sue mani non si puote computare.	11 Yet all good things came to me together with her, and innumerable honors by her hand;
12 E allegra' mi in tutte le cose; però che questa sapienza a me andava inanzi, e non sapeva io ch' ella fosse madre di tutti questi beni.	12 and I rejoiced in all these, because this wisdom went before me, although I did not know that she is the mother of them all.
13 Sanza finzione io imparai quella, e comùnicola cogli altri sanza invidia, e non ascondo la sua onestade.	13 This I have learned without falsehood and communicate without envy, and her integrity I do not hide.
14 Infinito tesoro, ciò è sapienza alli uomini; per lo quale, coloro che l' hanno uso, sono fatti partecipi dell' amistade di Dio, e andati sono per lo dono della disciplina.	14 Indeed, she is an infinite treasure chest for men, and those who make use of it, become partakers in the friendship of God, because they are recommended by the gifts of instruction.
15 Ma a me concedette Iddio di parlare (proverbii) per sentenza, e di presumere di dire quelle cose che sono degne di questi doni che mi sono dat?; però che Iddio è duca di sapienza, e sì è emendatore de' savi.	15 Yet God has given to me to speak my mind, and to conceive thoughts worthy of those things that are given to me, because he is the leader of wisdom and the repairer of understanding.
16 Nella sua mano siamo noi e le nostre parole e ogni sapienza e la disciplina dell' opere della scienza.	16 For in his hand are both we, and our words, and all wisdom, and the works of science, and instruction.
17 Egli mi diede la vera scienza di queste cose le quali sono, acciò che io sappia la disposizione del mondo, e la virtude delli elementi;	17 For he has given me true knowledge of these things which exist: so as to know the orderly arrangement of the world, and the powers of the elements,
18 il principio, il mezzo, il fine de' tempi; le cagioni delle mutazioni de' tempi e le terminazioni de' tempi, (le mutazioni de' costumi, le divisioni dei tempi);	18 the beginning and the end and the midpoint of the seasons, the characteristics of changing things, and the divisions of time,
19 li corsi dell' anno e le disposizioni delle stelle;	19 the courses of the years, and the orderly arrangement of the stars,
20 la natura delli animali, l' ira delle bestie, la forza delli venti e li pensieri delli uomini; la differenza delli arbori e le virtudi delle radici.	20 the natures of animals, and the rage of wild beasts, the force of winds, and the reasonings of men, the diversities of plants, and the benefits of roots,
21 E imparai qualunque cosa occulta, e dell' altre cose non provedute; la sapienza artefice di tutte le cose le m'insegnò.	21 and all such things as are hidden and unexpected, I have learned; for wisdom, the artisan of all things, taught me.
22 Però ch' egli è in lei lo spirito (di tutte le cose) d'intelligenza, spirito santo, di molte guise, un solo, temperato, mobile e sobrio, facondo in parlare, mobile, sanza macula, certo, soave, amante lo buono (operaio), il quale non vieta alcuna cosa di fare bene;	22 For in her is the spirit of understanding: holy, singular, manifold, subtle, perceptive, lively, chaste, reliable, gracious, loving, good, astute, who forbids nothing beneficial,
23 umano, benigno, stabile, securo, certo e che hae ogni virtude; riguardante tutte le cose, e che comprende tutti li spiriti, intelligibile, mondo, sottile.	23 humane, kind, steadfast, trustworthy, secure, having all virtue, watching for all things and grasping all things with a pure and most delicate understanding of spirit.
24 La sapienza è più mobile di tutte le cose mobili; ella aggiugne in ogni luogo per la mondizia (e puritade) sua.	24 For wisdom is more active than all active things, yet she reaches everywhere because of her purity.
25 Ella è vapore della virtù di Dio, e sì è uno discorrimento della claritade dello Onnipotente Dio sincera; e però nullo corruttibile corre in lei.	25 For she is a breath of the virtue of God and a genuine emanation from the purity of the almighty God, and therefore nothing unclean can invade her.
26 Ella è uno candore della eterna luce; ella sì è specchio sanza macula della maestade di Dio, e sì è imagine della sua bontade.	26 Indeed, she is the brightness of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror of the majesty of God, and the image of his goodness.
27 E conciosia cosa ch' ella sia una sì puote, tutte le cose; stando ferma, tutte le cose innova, e per le generazioni delle genti si permuta nelle sante anime; ordina li amici di Dio, e li profeti constituisce.	27 And though she is one, she can do all things; and, unchanging in herself, she renews all things, and throughout the nations she conveys herself to holy souls, establishing them as friends and prophets of God.
28 Iddio non ama alcuno, se la sapienza non è in lui.	28 For God loves none but those who dwell with wisdom.
29 Questa sì è più bella che il sole, e sopra tutto l'ordine della disposizione delle stelle; e prima fue, assomigliata alla luce del die	29 For she is more spectacular than the sun, and above the array of all the stars; compared with the light, she is found to be before it.
30 A lei viene dietro la notte; la sapienza non è superata dalla malizia.	30 Indeed, after her comes night, but wisdom will not be overcome by malice.
