1 (Ciò avvenne) il ventiquattro del sesto mese, l'anno secondo del re Dario.	1 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of king Darius.
2 Nel settimo mese, il ventuno del mese, il Signore parlò per mezzo del profeta Aggeo, e disse:	2 And in the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of the Lord came, by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
3 « Parla a Zorobabele, figlio di Salatiel, principe di Giuda, e a Gesù, figlio di losedec, sommo sa­cerdote, e al resto del popolo, e di' loro:	3 Speak to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judah, and to Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remainder of the people, saying:
4 Chi di voi ha avuto tanto di vita da aver veduta que­sta casa nella sua prima gloria? Che ve ne pare di questa? Non Vi sembra come un niente?	4 Who is left among you, who saw this house in its first glory? And how do you see it now? Is it not, in comparison to that, as nothing in your eyes?
5 Ma su, fatti coraggio, o Zorobabele — dice il Signore — fatti animo, o Gesù, figlio di Iosedec, sommo sacerdote, coraggio, o popolo tutto quanto, — dice il Signore — lavorate; perchè io sono con voi — dice il Signore degli eserciti. —	5 And now be strengthened, Zerubbabel, says the Lord. And be strengthened, Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strengthened, all people of the land, says the Lord of hosts. For I am with you, says the Lord of hosts.
6 E' un impegno che io ho preso con voi fin da quando usciste dall'Egitto: il mio spirito sarà in mezzo a voi: non temete.	6 And act according to the word that I planted with you when you departed from the land of Egypt. And my Spirit will be in your midst. Do not be afraid.
7 Ecco infatti quanto dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ancora un poco, ed io metterò in movimento il cielo e la terra, il mare, il mondo,	7 For thus says the Lord of hosts: There is yet one brief time, and I will move heaven and earth, and the sea and the dry land.
8 metterò in movimento tutte le nazioni, perchè verrà il Desiderato da tutte le genti; e riempirò di gloria questa casa, — dice il Signore degli eserciti. —	8 And I will move all nations. And the Desired of all nations will arrive. And I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts.
9 Mio è l'argento, mio è l'oro. — dice il Signore degli eserciti —	9 Mine is the silver, and mine is the gold, says the Lord of hosts.
10 grande sarà la gloria di questa casa, e di quest'ultima più che della prima: in questo luogo io darò la pace dice il Signore degli eserciti ».	10 Great shall be the glory of this house, the last more than the first, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place, I will bestow peace, says the Lord of hosts.
11 Al ventiquattro del nono mese, l'anno secondo del re Dario, la parola del Signore fu indirizzata al profeta Aggeo, in questi termini:	11 On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of king Darius, the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet, saying:
12 « Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: Rivolgi ai sacerdoti questa quistione sulla legge:	12 Thus says the Lord of hosts: the priests question the law, saying:
13 « Se un uomo porta della carne santificata nel lembo del suo vestito, e col lembo del vestito tocca o pane o pietanza o vino o olio od altro alimento, sarà ciò santificato? » E i sacerdoti risposero e dissero: « No ».	13 If a man will have carried sanctified flesh in the pocket of his garment, and the top of it touches his bread, or appetizer, or wine, or oil, or any food, shall it be sanctified? But the priests responded by saying, “No.”
14 E Aggeo disse: « Se uno, immondo a causa d'un morto, toccherà una di queste cose, sarà essa contaminata? » E i sacerdoti risposero e dissero: « Sarà contaminata ».	14 And Haggai said, “If the polluted in soul will have touched any of all these things, shall it be contaminated?” And the priests responded and said, “It shall be contaminated.”
15 Allora Aggeo, prendendo la parola, disse: « Così è questo popolo, così è questa nazione davanti a me — dice il Signore — così sono tutte le opere delle loro mani e tutto ciò che ivi hanno offerto: tutto sarà immondo.	15 And Haggai answered and he said: Such is this people, and such is this nation before my face, says the Lord, and such is all the work of their hands. And so all that they have offered there has been contaminated.
16 Ed ora riflettete a ciò che fu da questo giorno addietro, avanti che voi poneste pietra sopra pietra nel tempio del Signore.	16 And now, consider in your hearts, from this day and beyond, before stone may be placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord:
17 Allora, dato che vi accostaste ad un mucchio di venti moggia, diventava di dieci, e se andavate allo strettoio per pigiarvi cinquanta barili, diventavan venti.	17 when you approached a pile of twenty measures, and they became ten, and you entered to the press, to press out fifty bottles, and they became twenty,
18 Io vi ho colpiti col vento infocato, colla ruggine, colla grandine in tutte le opere delle vostre mani, e di voi non c'è stato nessuno che sia tornato a me — dice il Signore —	18 how I struck you with a burning wind, and a mildew, and a hailstorm, all the works of your hand, yet there was no one among you who returned to me, says the Lord.
19 ma fateci attenzione da questo giorno in avvenire, dal giorno ventiquattro del nono mese, dal giorno in cui furon gettate le fondamenta del tempio del Signore, fateci attenzione.	19 Set your hearts from this day and into the future, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundations of the temple of the Lord have been uttered, and place it upon your heart.
20 Forse germina già il seme? (Che vuol dire se) ancora la vite, il fico, i melogranati e gli ulivi non han fiorito? Ma fin da questo giorno io darò loro le benedizioni ».	20 Has the seed been germinated yet? And has the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree still not flourished? From this day on, I will bless you.
21 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata per la seconda volta, il ventiquattro del mese, ad Aggeo, in questi termini:	21 And the word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai, on the twenty-fourth of the month, saying:
22 « Parla a Zorobabele duce di Giuda, e digli: To metterò in movimento il cielo e la terra,	22 Speak to Zerubbabel the governor of Judah, saying: I will move both heaven and earth.
23 e abbatterò il trono dei regni, e distruggerò la potenza del regno delle nazioni, e rovescierò i cocchi e i loro cocchieri, cadranno i cavalli e i loro cavalieri, l'uomo (cadrà) sotto la spada del proprio fratello.	23 And I will overturn the throne of kingdoms, and I will crush the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles. And I will overturn the four-horse chariot, and its rider; and the horses and their riders shall be brought down, a man by the sword of his brother.
24 In quel tempo — dice il Signore degli eserciti — io ti prenderò, o Zorobabele, figlio di Salatiel, mio servo — dice il Signore — e ti terrò come un anello da sigillare, perchè ti ho eletto — dice il Signore degli eserciti ».	24 In that day, says the Lord of hosts, I will take you, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, my servant, says the Lord, and will set you like a seal, for I have chosen you, says the Lord of hosts.
