1 Manasse aveva dodici anni quando cominciò a regnare e re­gnò cinquantacinque anni in Gerusalemme.	1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for fifty-five years inJerusalem.
2 Egli fece il male davanti al Signore secondo le abbominazioni delle genti che il Signore aveva sterminate dinanzi ai figli d'Israele,	2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahwehhad dispossessed for the Israelites.
3 e si mise a restaurare gli alti luoghi che Ezechia suo padre aveva demoliti; eresse altari ai Baalim, fece dei boschetti sacri, adorò tutta la milizia del cielo e la venerò.	3 He rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had demolished, he set up altars to Baal andmade sacred poles, he worshipped the whole array of heaven and served it.
4 Edificò pure degli altari nella casa del Signore, della quale il Signore aveva detto: « In Gerusalemme sarà in eterno il mio nome ».	4 He built altars in the Temple of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, 'My name wil be in Jerusalem forever.'
5 Li eresse a tutto l'esercito del cielo nei due cortili della casa del Si­gnore.	5 He built altars to the whole array of heaven in the two courts of the Temple of Yahweh.
6 Fece passare pel fuoco i suoi figli nella valle di Benennom; badò ai sogni, seguì auguri, attese alle arti magiche, tenne con sè maghi e incantatori e fece tanti mali davanti al Signore, da provocarlo a sdegno.	6 He caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom. He practisedsoothsaying, divination and sorcery, and had dealings with mediums and spirit-guides. He did very many morethings displeasing to Yahweh, thus provoking his anger.
7 Pose un'immagine scolpita e la statua di getto nella casa di Dio, della quale Dio aveva detto a David e a Salomone suo figlio: « In questa casa e in Gerusalemme, che io ho eletta fra tutte le tribù d'Israele, porrò il mio nome in sempiterno;	7 He put a sculpted image, an idol which he had had made, inside the Temple of which God had said toDavid and his son Solomon, 'In this Temple and in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of al the tribes ofIsrael, I shal put my name for ever.
8 non farò più muovere il piede d'Israele dalla terra che io diedi ai loro padri, a patto però ch'essi abbian cura d'osservare quello che io ho loro comandato, e tutta la legge, le cerimonie, le ordinazioni date loro per mezzo di Mosè ».	8 Nor shal I ever again remove Israel's foot from the soil on which I established your ancestors oncondition that they were careful to observe al I commanded them as laid down in the whole Law, the statutesand the ordinances, given through Moses.'
9 Manasse adunque trascinò Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme a fare peggio di tutte le genti che il Signore aveva sterminate dal cospetto dei figli d'I­sraele.	9 But Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into doing worse things than the nationswhich Yahweh had destroyed for the Israelites.
10 Il Signore parlò a lui e al suo popolo; ma non vollero dar retta.	10 When Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and his people, they would not listen.
11 Per questo il Signore fece venire sopra di loro i principi dell'esercito del re d'Assiria, i quali presero Manasse e, legatolo con catene e con ceppi, lo menarono a Babilonia.	11 Yahweh then brought down on them the generals of the king of Assyria's army who capturedManasseh with hooks, put him in chains and took him to Babylon.
12 Quando egli si trovò in angustie, pregò il Signore Dio suo, e fece molta penitenza dinanzi al Dio dei suoi padri;	12 While in his distress, he placated Yahweh his God by genuinely humbling himself before the God ofhis ancestors.
13 Lo invocò e gli rivolse intense preghiere. E Dio, esaudita la sua preghiera, lo ricondusse a Gerusalemme nel suo regno. Allora Manasse riconobbe che il Signore è Dio.	13 When he prayed to him, he was moved by his entreaty, heard his supplication and brought him backto Jerusalem to his kingdom. Manasseh realised then that Yahweh is God.
14 Dopo questo egli edificò un muro fuori della città di David, all'occidente di Gihon, nella valle, dall'entrata della porta dei pesci girava intorno fino al1'Ofel. Lo fece molto alto, e pose dei capi d'esercito in tutte le città forti di Giuda.	14 Afterwards, he rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David, to the west of Gihon, in the val ey, up to theFish Gate and round the Ophel, and made it very much higher. And he stationed military governors in al thefortified towns of Judah.
15 Tolse dalla casa del Signore gli dèi stranieri e il simulacro, e anche gli altari che aveva fatti sul monte della casa del Signore e in Gerusalemme, e gettò ogni cosa fuori della città.	15 He also removed the foreign gods and the idol from the Temple of Yahweh, as well as all the altarswhich he had built on the mountain of the Temple of Yahweh and in Jerusalem, and threw them out of the city.
16 Restaurato l'altare del Signore, v'immolò vittime, ostie pacifiche e di lode, e comandò a Giuda di servire al Signore Dio d'I­sraele.	16 He repaired the altar of Yahweh and offered communion sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings on it,and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh, God of Israel.
17 Ma il popolo seguitava ad immolare sugli alti luoghi al Signore Dio suo.	17 The people, however, went on sacrificing at the high places, although only to Yahweh their God.
18 Il resto delle gesta di Manasse, la sua supplica al suo Dio, le parole dei veggenti, che gli parlavano in nome del Dio d'Israele, si contengono nei libri dei re d'Israele.	18 The rest of the history of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the prophecies of the seers whospoke to him in the name of Yahweh, God of Israel, can be found in the Annals of the Kings of Israel.
19 E la preghiera, e come fu esaudito, e tutti i suoi peccati, il suo disprezzo, e i luoghi dove egli edificò gli alti luoghi e fece boschetti sacri e statue, prima di far penitenza, tutte que­ste cose sono scritte nel libro di Hozai.	19 His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, all his sins, his infidelity, the sites where he builthigh places and set up sacred poles and idols before humbling himself, are set down in the records of Hozai.
20 Manasse poi si addormentò coi suoi padri; fu sepolto nella sua casa, e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Amon.	20 Then Manasseh fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the garden of his palace. His sonAmon succeeded him.
21 Amon aveva ventidue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e tregnò due anni in Gerusalemme.	21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for two years inJerusalem.
22 Egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, come aveva fatto Manasse suo padre, e sacrificò e servì a tutti gl'idoli fatti da Manasse.	22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, as his father Manasseh had done, for Amon sacrificed to althe images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them.
23 Ma non si umiliò dinanzi tal Signore come Manasse suo patdre, e commise scelleratezze molto maggiori.	23 He did not humble himself before Yahweh as his father Manasseh had done; on the contrary, Amonwilfully added to his guilt.
24 I suoi servi ordilrono contro di lui una congiura e l'uccisero nella sua casa.	24 His retinue plotted against him and killed him in his own palace.
25 Ma il resto del popolo, fatti a pezzi quelli che avevano ucciso Amon, costituì in suo luogo il suo figlio Giosia.	25 The people of the country, however, slaughtered al those who had plotted against King Amon andproclaimed his son Josiah as his successor.
