BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Adamo poi conobbe la sua moglie Eva, la quale concepì e partorì Caino, dicendo: « Ho ottenuto un uomo coll'aiuto di Dio ».	1 The man had intercourse with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. 'I have acquireda man with the help of Yahweh,' she said.
2 Dipoi partorì il fratello di lui, Abele. E Abele fu pastore di pecore; Caino invece, agricoltore.	2 She gave birth to a second child, Abel, the brother of Cain. Now Abel became a shepherd and keptflocks, while Cain tilled the soil.
3 Ed avvenne che dopo molto tempo Caino fece al Signore un'offerta dei frutti della terra,	3 Time passed and Cain brought some of the produce of the soil as an offering for Yahweh,
4 ed anche Abele offerse dei primogeniti del suo gregge e dei più grassi; ed il Signore guardò benignamente Abele ed i suoi doni;	4 while Abel for his part brought the first-born of his flock and some of their fat as wel . Yahweh lookedwith favour on Abel and his offering.
5 ma non volse lo sguardo a Caino e ai suoi doni. E Caino ne fu molto irritato, e il suo volto fu abbattuto.	5 But he did not look with favour on Cain and his offering, and Cain was very angry and downcast.
6 E il Signore gli disse: «Perchè sei irritato? e perchè hai il viso abbattuto?	6 Yahweh asked Cain, 'Why are you angry and downcast?
7 Non è egli vero che se farai bene, avrai bene; e se farai male, il peccato sarà subito alla tua porta? Ma sotto di te sarà il desiderio di esso, e tu lo devi dominare ».	7 If you are doing right, surely you ought to hold your head high! But if you are not doing right, Sin iscrouching at the door hungry to get you. You can still master him.'
8 Or Caino disse ad Abele suo fratello: «Andiamo fuori ». E quando furono nei campi, Caino saltò addosso al suo fratello Abele e lo uccise.	8 Cain said to his brother Abel, 'Let us go out'; and while they were in the open country, Cain set on hisbrother Abel and killed him.

11 Or dunque tu sarai maledetto sopra la terra che ha aperto la sua bocca a ricevere dalla tua mano il sangue del tuo fratello.	11 Now be cursed and banned from the ground that has opened its mouth to receive your brother's bloodat your hands.
12 Quando l'avrai lavorata, essa non ti darà i suoi frutti, e tu sarai ramingo e fuggiasco sopra la terra ».	12 When you til the ground it wil no longer yield up its strength to you. A restless wanderer you wil beon earth.'
13 E Caino disse al Signore: « La mia iniquità è troppo grande perchè io possa meritar perdono!	13 Cain then said to Yahweh, 'My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Ecco tu oggi mi scacci da questa terra, ed io starò nascosto lungi dalla tua faccia, e sarò ramingo e fuggiasco sulla terra; ma chiunque mi troverà mi ucciderà ».	14 Look, today you drive me from the surface of the earth. I must hide from you, and be a restlesswanderer on earth. Why, whoever comes across me wil kill me!'
15 E il Signore gli disse: « Non sarà cosi; perchè chi ucciderà Caino avrà castigo sette volte maggiore ». Pose quindi il Signore un segno su Caino, affinchè nessuno di quelli che lo incontrassero l'uccidesse.	15 'Very wel , then,' Yahweh replied, 'whoever kil s Cain wil suffer a sevenfold vengeance.' So Yahwehput a mark on Cain, so that no one coming across him would kil him.
16 E Caino, fuggito dal cospetto del Signore, andò vagabondo per la terra, e abitò nel paese che è ad oriente di Eden.	16 Cain left Yahweh's presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
17 E Caino conobbe sua moglie, la quale concepì e partorì Enoc. Egli poi fabbricò una città che chiamò Enoc, dal nome del suo figliolo,	17 Cain had intercourse with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. He became thefounder of a city and gave the city the name of his son Enoch.
18 Dipoi Enoc generò Irad, e Irad generò Maviael, e Maviael generò Matusael, e Matusael generò Lamec,	18 Enoch fathered Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael; Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushaelfathered Lamech.

24 Se Caino sarà vendicato sette volte, Lamec sarà settantasette volte ».	24 Sevenfold vengeance for Cain, but seventy-sevenfold for Lamech.
