וְגַם אָנֹכִי בְּבֹאִי אֲלֵיכֶם אַחַי לֹא בָאתִי בְּגֵאוּת הַדִּבּוּר וְהַחָכְמָה בְּהַגִּידִי לָכֶם אֶת־עֵדוּת הָאֱלֹהִים | 1 Now when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with any brilliance of oratory or wise argument toannounce to you the mystery of God. |
כִּי לֹא־חָשַׁבְתִּי לָדַעַת בְּתוֹכְכֶם דָּבָר בִּלְתִּי אִם־יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ וְהוּא הַנִּצְלָב | 2 I was resolved that the only knowledge I would have while I was with you was knowledge of Jesus, andof him as the crucified Christ. |
וָאֶהִי אֶצְלְכֶם בְּחֻלְשָׁה וּבְיִרְאָה וּבְחַלְחָלָה רַבָּה | 3 I came among you in weakness, in fear and great trembling |
וּדְבָרִי וּקְרִיאָתִי לֹא לְפַתּוֹת בְּאִמְרֵי חָכְמַת בְּנֵי־אָדָם כִּי אִם־בְּתוֹכַחַת הָרוּחַ וְהַגְּבוּרָה | 4 and what I spoke and proclaimed was not meant to convince by philosophical argument, but todemonstrate the convincing power of the Spirit, |
לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר לֹא־תִהְיֶה אֱמוּנַתְכֶם בְּחָכְמַת בְּנֵי אָדָם כִּי אִם־בִּגְבוּרַת אֱלֹהִים | 5 so that your faith should depend not on human wisdom but on the power of God. |
אָכֵן חָכְמָה נְדַבֵּר בֵּין הַשְּׁלֵמִים לֹא חָכְמַת הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּה גַּם־לֹא שֶׁל־שָׂרֵי הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר יֹאבֵדוּ | 6 But stil , to those who have reached maturity, we do talk of a wisdom, not, it is true, a philosophy of thisage or of the rulers of this age, who will not last long now. |
כִּי אִם־בַּסּוֹד נְדַבֵּר חָכְמַת הָאֱלֹהִים הַנִּסְתָּרָה אֲשֶׁר הָאֱלֹהִים יְעָדָהּ לִכְבוֹדֵנוּ לִפְנֵי יְמֵי הָעוֹלָם | 7 It is of the mysterious wisdom of God that we talk, the wisdom that was hidden, which God predestinedto be for our glory before the ages began. |
אֲשֶׁר לֹא יְדָעָהּ אִישׁ מִשָּׂרֵי הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּה כִּי לוּ יְדָעוּהָ לֹא צָלְבוּ אֶת־אֲדוֹן הַכָּבוֹד | 8 None of the rulers of the age recognised it; for if they had recognised it, they would not have crucifiedthe Lord of glory; |
אֶלָּא כַכָּתוּב אֲשֶׁר־עַיִן לֹא רָאֲתָה וְאֹזֶן לֹא שָׁמְעָה וְלֹא עָלָה עַל־לֵב אֱנוֹשׁ אֵת אֲשֶׁר־הֵכִין הָאֱלֹהִים לְאֹהֲבָיו | 9 but it is as scripture says: What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, what the mind of man cannotvisualise; al that God has prepared for those who love him; |
וְלָנוּ גִּלָּה הָאֱלֹהִים בְּרוּחוֹ כִּי הָרוּחַ חוֹקֵר אֶת־הַכֹּל גַּם אֶת־מַעֲמַקֵּי הָאֱלֹהִים | 10 to us, though, God has given revelation through the Spirit, for the Spirit explores the depths ofeverything, even the depths of God. |
כִּי מִי הוּא בִּבְנֵי אָדָם הַיֹּדֵעַ אֵת אֲשֶׁר בָּאָדָם בִּלְתִּי אִם־רוּחַ הָאָדָם אֲשֶׁר בְּקִרְבּוֹ כֵּן גַּם לֹא־יָדַע אִישׁ אֵת אֲשֶׁר בֵּאלֹהִים בִּלְתִּי אִם־רוּחַ הָאֱלֹהִים | 11 After al , is there anyone who knows the qualities of anyone except his own spirit, within him; and inthe same way, nobody knows the qualities of God except the Spirit of God. |
וַאֲנַחְנוּ לֹא קִבַּלְנוּ אֶת־רוּחַ הָעוֹלָם כִּי אִם־הָרוּחַ מֵאֵת הָאֱלֹהִים לְמַעַן נֵדַע אֶת־אֲשֶׁר נִתַּן לָנוּ מֵאֵת הָאֱלֹהִים בְּחַסְדּוֹ | 12 Now, the Spirit we have received is not the spirit of the world but God's own Spirit, so that we mayunderstand the lavish gifts God has given us. |
וְאֶת־זֹאת נְדַבֵּר לֹא בִדְבָרִים אֲשֶׁר תְּלַמְּדֵם חָכְמַת בְּנֵי אָדָם כִּי אִם־בִּדְבָרִים אֲשֶׁר רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ תְּלַמְּדֵם וּנְבָאֵר דְּבָרִים רוּחָנִיִּים עַל־פִּי הָרוּחַ | 13 And these are what we speak of, not in the terms learnt from human philosophy, but in terms learntfrom the Spirit, fitting spiritual language to spiritual things. |
הֵן הָאָדָם הַנַּפְשִׁי אֵינֶנּוּ מְקַבֵּל אֶת־דִּבְרֵי רוּחַ אֱלֹהִים כִּי־הֵמָּה סִכְלוּת לוֹ וְלֹא יוּכַל לַהֲבִינָם בַּאֲשֶׁר הֵמָּה נְדוֹנִים בְּדֶרֶךְ הָרוּחַ | 14 The natural person has no room for the gifts of God's Spirit; to him they are folly; he cannot recognisethem, because their value can be assessed only in the Spirit. |
אֲבָל הָאָדָם הָרוּחָנִי יָדִין אֶת־הַכֹּל וְאוֹתוֹ לֹא־יָדִין אִישׁ | 15 The spiritual person, on the other hand, can assess the value of everything, and that person's valuecannot be assessed by anybody else. |
כִּי מִי־תִכֵּן אֶת־רוּחַ יְהוָֹה וּמִי יוֹדִיעֶנּוּ וַאֲנַחְנוּ הִנֵּה יֶשׁ־לָנוּ רוּחַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ | 16 For: who has ever known the mind of the Lord? Who has ever been his adviser? But we are thosewho have the mind of Christ. |
הוּא יְנַחֵם אֶת־לְבַבְכֶם וִיכוֹנֵן אֶתְכֶם בְּכָל־דָּבָר וּמַעֲשֶׂה טוֹב | |
