1 מַשָּׂא מִצְרָיִם הִנֵּה יְהוָה רֹכֵב עַל־עָב קַל וּבָא מִצְרַיִם וְנָעוּ אֱלִילֵי מִצְרַיִם מִפָּנָיו וּלְבַב מִצְרַיִם יִמַּס בְּקִרְבֹּו | 1 Proclamation about Egypt: Look! Yahweh, riding a swift cloud, is coming to Egypt. The false gods ofEgypt totter before him and Egypt's heart quails within her. |
2 וְסִכְסַכְתִּי מִצְרַיִם בְּמִצְרַיִם וְנִלְחֲמוּ אִישׁ־בְּאָחִיו וְאִישׁ בְּרֵעֵהוּ עִיר בְּעִיר מַמְלָכָה בְּמַמְלָכָה | 2 I shal stir up Egypt against Egypt, they wil fight one another, brother against brother, friend againstfriend, city against city, kingdom against kingdom. |
3 וְנָבְקָה רוּחַ־מִצְרַיִם בְּקִרְבֹּו וַעֲצָתֹו אֲבַלֵּעַ וְדָרְשׁוּ אֶל־הָאֱלִילִים וְאֶל־הָאִטִּים וְאֶל־הָאֹבֹות וְאֶל־הַיִּדְּעֹנִים | 3 Egypt's spirit wil fail within her and I shal confound her deliberations. They will consult false gods andwizards, ghosts and sorcerers. |
4 וְסִכַּרְתִּי אֶת־מִצְרַיִם בְּיַד אֲדֹנִים קָשֶׁה וּמֶלֶךְ עַז יִמְשָׁל־בָּם נְאֻם הָאָדֹון יְהוָה צְבָאֹות | 4 And I shal hand Egypt over to the clutches of a cruel master, a ruthless king wil rule them -- declaresYahweh Sabaoth. |
5 וְנִשְּׁתוּ־מַיִם מֵהַיָּם וְנָהָר יֶחֱרַב וְיָבֵשׁ | 5 The waters wil ebb from the sea, the river will dry up and run low, |
6 וְהֶאֶזְנִיחוּ נְהָרֹות דָּלֲלוּ וְחָרְבוּ יְאֹרֵי מָצֹור קָנֶה וָסוּף קָמֵלוּ | 6 the streams wil become foul, the rivers of Egypt sink and dry up. Rush and reed wil turn black, |
7 עָרֹות עַל־יְאֹור עַל־פִּי יְאֹור וְכֹל מִזְרַע יְאֹור יִיבַשׁ נִדַּף וְאֵינֶנּוּ | 7 the Nile-plants on the banks of the Nile; all the vegetation of the Nile, will wither, blow away and be nomore. |
8 וְאָנוּ הַדַּיָּגִים וְאָבְלוּ כָּל־מַשְׁלִיכֵי בַיְאֹור חַכָּה וּפֹרְשֵׂי מִכְמֹרֶת עַל־פְּנֵי־מַיִם אֻמְלָלוּ | 8 The fishermen wil groan, it will be mourning for al who cast hook in the Nile; those who spread nets onthe waters wil lose heart. |
9 וּבֹשׁוּ עֹבְדֵי פִשְׁתִּים שְׂרִיקֹות וְאֹרְגִים חֹורָי | 9 The workers of carded flax and the weavers of white cloth wil be confounded, |
10 וְהָיוּ שָׁתֹתֶיהָ מְדֻכָּאִים כָּל־עֹשֵׂי שֶׂכֶר אַגְמֵי־נָפֶשׁ | 10 the weavers dismayed, al the workmen dejected. |
11 אַךְ־אֱוִלִים שָׂרֵי צֹעַן חַכְמֵי יֹעֲצֵי פַרְעֹה עֵצָה נִבְעָרָה אֵיךְ תֹּאמְרוּ אֶל־פַּרְעֹה בֶּן־חֲכָמִים אֲנִי בֶּן־מַלְכֵי־קֶדֶם | 11 Yes, the princes of Zoan are fools, Pharaoh's wisest councillors make up a stupid council. How dare you say to Pharaoh, 'I am descended from sages, I am descended from bygone kings'? |
12 אַיָּם אֵפֹוא חֲכָמֶיךָ וְיַגִּידוּ נָא לָךְ וְיֵדְעוּ מַה־יָּעַץ יְהוָה צְבָאֹות עַל־מִצְרָיִם | 12 Where are these sages of yours? Let them tel you, so that all may know, the plans Yahweh Sabaothhas made against Egypt! |
13 נֹואֲלוּ שָׂרֵי צֹעַן נִשְּׁאוּ שָׂרֵי נֹף הִתְעוּ אֶת־מִצְרַיִם פִּנַּת שְׁבָטֶיהָ | 13 The princes of Zoan are fools, the princes of Noph, self-deceivers, the top men of her provinces haveled Egypt astray. |
14 יְהוָה מָסַךְ בְּקִרְבָּהּ רוּחַ עִוְעִים וְהִתְעוּ אֶת־מִצְרַיִם בְּכָל־מַעֲשֵׂהוּ כְּהִתָּעֹות שִׁכֹּור בְּקִיאֹו | 14 Yahweh has infused them with a giddy spirit; they have led Egypt astray in al she undertakes like adrunkard straying about as he vomits. |
15 וְלֹא־יִהְיֶה לְמִצְרַיִם מַעֲשֶׂה אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה רֹאשׁ וְזָנָב כִּפָּה וְאַגְמֹון׃ ס | 15 Nowadays no one does for Egypt what top and tail, palm and reed used to do. |
16 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יִהְיֶה מִצְרַיִם כַּנָּשִׁים וְחָרַד ׀ וּפָחַד מִפְּנֵי תְּנוּפַת יַד־יְהוָה צְבָאֹות אֲשֶׁר־הוּא מֵנִיף עָלָיו | 16 That day Egypt will be like women, trembling and terrified at the threatening hand of Yahweh Sabaoth,when he raises it against her. |
17 וְהָיְתָה אַדְמַת יְהוּדָה לְמִצְרַיִם לְחָגָּא כֹּל אֲשֶׁר יַזְכִּיר אֹתָהּ אֵלָיו יִפְחָד מִפְּנֵי עֲצַת יְהוָה צְבָאֹות אֲשֶׁר־הוּא יֹועֵץ עָלָיו׃ ס | 17 The land of Judah will become Egypt's shame; whenever she is reminded of it, she wil be terrified,because of the plan which Yahweh Sabaoth has laid against her. |
18 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יִהְיוּ חָמֵשׁ עָרִים בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם מְדַבְּרֹות שְׂפַת כְּנַעַן וְנִשְׁבָּעֹות לַיהוָה צְבָאֹות עִיר הַהֶרֶס יֵאָמֵר לְאֶחָת׃ ס | 18 That day in Egypt there wil be five towns speaking the language of Canaan and pledging themselvesto Yahweh Sabaoth; one of them will be cal ed City of the Sun. |
19 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יִהְיֶה מִזְבֵּחַ לַיהוָה בְּתֹוךְ אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם וּמַצֵּבָה אֵצֶל־גְּבוּלָהּ לַיהוָה | 19 That day there wil be an altar dedicated to Yahweh in the centre of Egypt and, close to the frontier, apil ar dedicated to Yahweh, |
20 וְהָיָה לְאֹות וּלְעֵד לַיהוָה צְבָאֹות בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם כִּי־יִצְעֲקוּ אֶל־יְהוָה מִפְּנֵי לֹחֲצִים וְיִשְׁלַח לָהֶם מֹושִׁיעַ וָרָב וְהִצִּילָם | 20 and this will be a sign and a witness to Yahweh Sabaoth in Egypt. When they cry to Yahweh for helpbecause of oppressors, he wil send them a Saviour and leader to deliver them. |
21 וְנֹודַע יְהוָה לְמִצְרַיִם וְיָדְעוּ מִצְרַיִם אֶת־יְהוָה בַּיֹּום הַהוּא וְעָבְדוּ זֶבַח וּמִנְחָה וְנָדְרוּ־נֵדֶר לַיהוָה וְשִׁלֵּמוּ | 21 Yahweh will reveal himself to Egypt, and the Egyptians wil acknowledge Yahweh that day and wiloffer sacrifices and cereal offerings, and wil make vows to Yahweh and perform them. |
22 וְנָגַף יְהוָה אֶת־מִצְרַיִם נָגֹף וְרָפֹוא וְשָׁבוּ עַד־יְהוָה וְנֶעְתַּר לָהֶם וּרְפָאָם | 22 And if Yahweh strikes Egypt, having struck he wil heal, and they wil turn to Yahweh who wil heartheir prayers and heal them. |
23 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא תִּהְיֶה מְסִלָּה מִמִּצְרַיִם אַשּׁוּרָה וּבָא־אַשּׁוּר בְּמִצְרַיִם וּמִצְרַיִם בְּאַשּׁוּר וְעָבְדוּ מִצְרַיִם אֶת־אַשּׁוּר׃ ס | 23 That day there wil be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. Assyria will have access to Egypt and Egypthave access to Assyria. Egypt wil serve with Assyria. |
24 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יִהְיֶה יִשְׂרָאֵל שְׁלִישִׁיָּה לְמִצְרַיִם וּלְאַשּׁוּר בְּרָכָה בְּקֶרֶב הָאָרֶץ | 24 That day Israel will make a third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing at the centre of the world, |
25 אֲשֶׁר בֵּרֲכֹו יְהוָה צְבָאֹות לֵאמֹר בָּרוּךְ עַמִּי מִצְרַיִם וּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדַי אַשּׁוּר וְנַחֲלָתִי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ ס | 25 and Yahweh Sabaoth wil bless them in the words, 'Blessed be my people Egypt, Assyria my creation,and Israel my heritage.' |
