Segunda Epístola aos Coríntios 10

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eu, Paulo, vos exorto pela mansidão e bondade de Cristo, eu que me mostro humilde quando estou entre vós, mas, quando longe, sou ousado convosco.	1 I urge you by the gentleness and forbearance of Christ -- this is Paul now speaking personal y-I, theone who is so humble when he is facing you but ful of boldness at a distance.
2 Peço-vos que, quando eu estiver presente, não me veja obrigado a usar de minha autoridade de que pretendo realmente usar com certas pessoas que imaginam que nós procedemos com intenções humanas.	2 Yes, my appeal to you is that I should not have to be bold when I am actual y with you, or show thesame self-assurance as I reckon to use when I am chal enging those who reckon that we are guided by humanmotives.
3 Porque, ainda que vivamos na carne, não militamos segundo a carne.	3 For although we are human, it is not by human methods that we do battle.
4 Não são carnais as armas com que lutamos. São poderosas, em Deus, capazes de arrasar fortificações.	4 The weapons with which we do battle are not those of human nature, but they have the power, inGod's cause, to demolish fortresses. It is ideas that we demolish,
5 Nós aniquilamos todo raciocínio e todo orgulho que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e cativamos todo pensamento e o reduzimos à obediência a Cristo.	5 every presumptuous notion that is set up against the knowledge of God, and we bring every thoughtinto captivity and obedience to Christ;
6 Estamos prontos também para castigar todos os desobedientes, assim que for perfeita a vossa obediência.	6 once you have given your complete obedience, we are prepared to punish any disobedience.
7 Julgais as coisas pela aparência!... Quem se gloria de pertencer a Cristo considere que, como ele é de Cristo, assim também nós o somos.	7 Look at the evidence of your eyes. Anybody who is convinced that he belongs to Christ should go onto reflect that we belong to Christ no less than he does.
8 Ainda que eu me orgulhasse um pouco em demasia da autoridade que o Senhor nos deu, para vossa edificação e não para vossa ruína, não teria de que envergonhar-me.	8 Maybe I have taken rather too much pride in our authority, but the Lord gave us that for building youup, not for knocking you down, and I am not going to be shamed
9 Não quero, porém, dar a impressão de querer aterrar-vos com minhas cartas.	9 into letting you think that I can put fear into you only by letter.
10 Suas cartas, dizem, são imperativas e fortes, mas, quando está presente, a sua pessoa é fraca e a palavra desprezível.	10 Someone said, 'His letters are weighty enough, and ful of strength, but when you see him in person,he makes no impression and his powers of speaking are negligible.'
11 Quem assim pensa, fique sabendo que quais somos por escrito nas cartas, quando estamos ausentes, tais seremos também de fato, quando estivermos presentes.	11 I should like that sort of person to take note that our deeds when we are present wil show the samequalities as our letters when we were at a distance.
12 Em verdade, não ousamos equiparar-nos nem comparar-nos com alguns que se preconizam a si próprios. Medindo-se eles conforme a sua própria medida e comparando-se consigo mesmos, dão provas de pouco bom senso.	12 We are not venturing to rank ourselves, or even to compare ourselves with certain people whoprovide their own commendations. By measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves tothemselves, they only show their fol y.
13 Nós outros não nos gloriaremos além da medida, mas permaneceremos dentro do campo de ação que Deus nos determinou, levando-nos até vós.	13 By contrast we do not intend to boast beyond measure, but wil measure ourselves by the standardwhich God laid down for us, namely that of having come al the way to you.
14 Não passamos além dos limites. Estaríamos passando, caso não houvéssemos chegado até vós. Ora, realmente temos chegado até vós, pregando o Evangelho de Cristo.	14 We are not overreaching ourselves as we would be if we had not come all the way to you; in fact wewere the first to come as far as you with the good news of Christ.
15 Não nos ufanamos além da medida, cobrindo-nos de trabalhos alheios. Esperamos que, com o progresso de vossa fé, nossa obra cresça entre vós dentro do quadro de ação que nos foi determinado.	15 So we are not boasting beyond measure, about other men's work; in fact, we hope, as your faithincreases, to grow greater and greater by this standard of ours,
16 Assim esperamos levar o Evangelho aos países que ficam além de vós, sem nos gloriarmos das obras realizadas por outros dentro do domínio reservado a eles.	16 by preaching the gospel to regions beyond you, rather than boasting about work already done insomeone else's province.
17 Ora, quem se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor.	17 Let anyone who wants to boast, boast of the Lord.
18 Pois merece a aprovação não aquele que se recomenda a si mesmo, mas aquele que o Senhor recomenda.	18 For it is not through self-commendation that recognition is won, but through commendation.
