Giona 2

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il Signore dispose che un grosso pesce divorasse Giona. Così Giona rimase nel ventre del pesce tre giorni e tre notti.	1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.
2 Allora Giona levò la preghiera al Signore suo Dio dal ventre del pesce	2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:
3 e disse: "Ho invocato dal mio carcere il Signore ed egli mi ha risposto; dal profondo degl'inferi ho gridato e ha ascoltato il mio grido.	3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!
4 Tu mi avevi scaraventato nel cuore dei mari e un torrente mi aveva circondato; tutti i tuoi flutti e le tue onde si erano riversati su di me!	4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;
5 Io ho pensato: sono stato cacciato dalla tua presenza; eppure continuerò a guardare verso il tuo santo tempio.	5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'
6 Le acque mi avevano circondato fino al collo, l'abisso mi aveva avvolto; le alghe si erano attorcigliate al mio capo.	6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.
7 Ero disceso alle radici delle montagne, in un paese sotterraneo e i suoi catenacci mi avrebbero rinchiuso per sempre. Ma tu hai tratto dalla fossa la mia vita, o Signore, mio Dio!	7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!
8 Quando la vita si affievoliva in me, mi sono ricordato del Signore: è giunta a te la mia preghiera nel tuo santo tempio.	8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.
9 Coloro che adorano gli idoli abbandonano la loro grazia.	9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,
10 Io con voce di lode ti offrirò sacrifici, ciò che ho promesso io compio. La salvezza è del Signore!".	10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!
11 Allora il Signore ordinò al pesce di restituire Giona sulla spiaggia.	11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.
