LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Percorrete le vie di Gerusalemme: osservate, per favore, e informatevi; cercate per le sue piazze se troverete qualcuno, se c'è chi pratichi giustizia, chi cerchi fedeltà, e io la perdonerò.	1 Roam the streets of Jerusalem, look about and observe, Search through her public places, to find even one Who lives uprightly and seeks to be faithful, and I will pardon her!
2 Anche se dicono: "Vivente è il Signore!", essi giurano certo per il falso.	2 Though they say, "As the LORD lives," they swear falsely.
3 Signore, i tuoi occhi non sono forse per la fedeltà? Li hai percossi, ma non si affliggono, li hai distrutti! Han rifiutato di accettare la correzione, hanno indurito la loro faccia più che la pietra, hanno ricusato di ritornare!	3 O LORD, do your eyes not look for honesty? You struck them, but they did not cringe; you laid them low, but they refused correction; They set their faces harder than stone, and refused to return to you.
4 Ma io pensavo: "Certo essi sono poveri, sono stolti, perché non conoscono la via del Signore, il giudizio del loro Dio!	4 It is only the lowly, I thought, who are foolish; For they know not the way of the LORD, their duty to their God.
5 Me ne andrò verso i grandi e parlerò loro; certo essi conoscono la via del Signore, il giudizio del loro Dio!". Ma anch'essi insieme han rotto il giogo, hanno infranto i legami!	5 I will go to the great ones and speak with them; For they know the way of the LORD, their duty to their God. But, one and all, they had broken the yoke, torn off the harness.
6 Per questo li colpisce il leone della foresta, il lupo della steppa li disperde, la pantera vigila le loro città: chiunque se ne esce è sbranato, perché molte sono le sue trasgressioni, sono aumentate le sue ribellioni.	6 Therefore lions from the forest slay them, wolves of the desert ravage them, Leopards keep watch round their cities: all who come out are torn to pieces For their many crimes and their numerous rebellions.
7 "Perché dovrei perdonarti? I figli tuoi mi hanno abbandonato, hanno giurato per dèi da nulla. Io li ho saziati, ma hanno adulterato e nella casa della meretrice si fanno incisioni rituali.	7 Why should I pardon you these things? Your sons have forsaken me, they swear by gods that are not. I fed them, but they committed adultery; to the harlot's house they throng.
8 Stalloni pasciuti e ardenti essi sono, ognuno alla femmina del suo amico nitrisce.	8 Lustful stallions they are, each neighs after another's wife.
9 Per queste cose non dovrei punire? Oracolo del Signore. E di una nazione siffatta non dovrei vendicarmi?	9 Shall I not punish them for these things? says the LORD; On a nation such as this shall I not take vengeance?
10 Salite tra i suoi filari e distruggete, ma non completamente, i suoi tralci, perché non sono più del Signore!	10 Climb to her terraces, and ravage them, destroy them (not) wholly. Tear away her tendrils, they do not belong to the LORD.
11 Sì, contro di me hanno agito perfidamente la casa di Israele e la casa di Giuda". Oracolo del Signore.	11 For they have openly rebelled against me, both the house of Israel and the house of Judah, says the LORD.
12 Hanno rinnegato il Signore e han detto: "Non esiste! Non verrà contro di noi sventura, né spada, né fame noi vedremo!	12 They denied the LORD, saying, "Not he-- No evil shall befall us, neither sword nor famine shall we see.
13 Quanto ai profeti, appartengono al vento e Chi parla non c'è in loro". Così accade loro.	13 The prophets have become wind, and the word is not in them. May their threats be carried out against themselves!"
14 Pertanto così dice il Signore, Dio degli eserciti: "Perché avete proferito tale discorso, eccomi: io renderò le mie parole in bocca tua qual fuoco; radunerai il popolo come legna, e lo divorerà.	14 Now, for this that you have said, says the LORD, the God of hosts- Behold, I make my words in your mouth, a fire, And this people is the wood that it shall devour!--
15 Eccomi: io farò venire contro di voi una nazione da lontano, o casa di Israele, oracolo del Signore, una nazione poderosa, una nazione di antica data, una nazione di cui ignori la lingua e non comprendi quel che dice.	15 Beware, I will bring against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, says the LORD; A long-lived nation, an ancient nation, a people whose language you know not, whose speech you cannot understand.
16 La sua faretra è come sepolcro spalancato; essi sono tutti eroi.	16 Their quivers are like open graves; all of them are warriors.
17 Divorerà le tue messi e il tuo pane, divorerà i tuoi figli e le tue figlie, divorerà il tuo gregge e i tuoi armenti, divorerà la tua vigna e le tue ficaie, demolirà le tue città fortificate, nelle quali tu confidi, con la spada.	17 They will devour your harvest and your bread, devour your sons and your daughters, Devour your sheep and cattle, devour your vines and fig trees; They will beat flat with the sword the fortified city in which you trust.
18 Tuttavia ancora in quei giorni, oracolo del Signore, io non agirò a fondo.	18 Yet even in those days, says the LORD, I will not wholly destroy you.
19 Ma avverrà che se diranno: "Per qual motivo il Signore nostro Dio ci ha fatto queste cose?", allora dirai loro: "Poiché mi avete abbandonato e avete servito dèi stranieri nel vostro paese, per questo voi servirete gli stranieri in un paese non vostro".	19 And when they ask, "Why has the LORD done all these things to us?" say to them, "As you have forsaken me to serve strange gods in your own land, so shall you serve strangers in a land not your own."
20 Annunziate questo alla casa di Giacobbe, fatelo sentire a Giuda. Dite:	20 Announce this to the house of Jacob, proclaim it in Judah:
21 Ascoltate questo, per favore, o popolo stolto e senza cuore; avete occhi ma non vedete, avete orecchie ma non sentite.	21 Pay attention to this, foolish and senseless people Who have eyes and see not, who have ears and hear not.
22 Non mi temerete, dunque? Oracolo del Signore. O non tremerete dinanzi a me che ho posto la sabbia come confine al mare, barriera eterna che non sorpassa? I mari si agitano ma non prevalgono, spumeggiano le loro onde ma non la sorpassano.	22 Should you not fear me, says the LORD, should you not tremble before me? I made the sandy shore the sea's limit, which by eternal decree it may not overstep. Toss though it may, it is to no avail; though its billows roar, they cannot pass.
23 Questo popolo, però, ha un cuore ribelle e contumace: si son voltati e se ne sono andati!	23 But this people's heart is stubborn and rebellious; they turn and go away,
24 Neppur han detto in cuor loro: "Abbiamo timore del Signore, nostro Dio, che invia la pioggia in autunno e a primavera, al tempo suo, che ci custodisce le settimane fisse per il raccolto".	24 And say not in their hearts, "Let us fear the LORD, our God, Who gives us rain early and late, in its time; Who watches for us over the appointed weeks of harvest."
25 Le vostre iniquità han sconvolto queste cose e i vostri peccati hanno allontanato la felicità da voi!	25 Your crimes have prevented these things, your sins have turned back these blessings from you.
26 Sì, si trovano, tra il mio popolo, dei malvagi; spiano di nascosto, come uccellatori; pongono trappole, catturano uomini.	26 For there are among my people criminals; like fowlers they set traps, but it is men they catch.
27 Qual gabbia piena di volatili tali sono le case loro, piene d'inganno: per questo ingrandiscono e arricchiscono.	27 Their houses are as full of treachery as a bird-cage is of birds; Therefore they grow powerful and rich,
28 Ingrassano, divengono belli; oltrepassano tutti i limiti del male. La causa non la difendono, la causa dell'orfano, eppure han successo; né fanno giudizio per i poveri!	28 fat and sleek. They go their wicked way; justice they do not defend By advancing the claim of the fatherless or judging the cause of the poor.
29 Non punirò, dunque, queste cose? Oracolo del Signore. Contro una nazione siffatta non dovrò vendicarmi?	29 Shall I not punish these things? says the LORD; on a nation such as this shall I not take vengeance?
30 Cosa esecrabile e abominevole si realizzerà nel paese!	30 A shocking, horrible thing has happened in the land:
31 I profeti profetizzano nella menzogna, i sacerdoti insegnano di proprio arbitrio. Eppure il mio popolo ama che sia così! Ma cosa farete quando verrà la sua fine?".	31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests teach as they wish; Yet my people will have it so; what will you do when the end comes?
