Giobbe 42

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Giobbe rispose al Signore dicendo:	1 This was the answer Job gave to Yahweh:
2 "Riconosco che puoi tutto, e nessun progetto ti è impossibile.	2 I know that you are al -powerful: what you conceive, you can perform.
3 Chi è colui che denigra la provvidenza senza nulla sapere? E' vero, senza nulla sapere, ho detto cose troppo superiori a me, che io non comprendo.	3 I was the man who misrepresented your intentions with my ignorant words. You have told me aboutgreat works that I cannot understand, about marvels which are beyond me, of which I know nothing.
4 Ascoltami, di grazia, e lasciami parlare, io ti interrogherò e tu mi istruirai.	4 (Listen, please, and let me speak: I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me.)
5 Io ti conoscevo per sentito dire, ma ora i miei occhi ti hanno visto.	5 Before, I knew you only by hearsay but now, having seen you with my own eyes,
6 Perciò mi ricredo e mi pento sulla polvere e sulla cenere".	6 I retract what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.
7 Ora, dopo che il Signore ebbe rivolte queste parole a Giobbe, disse ad Elifaz il temanita: "La mia ira si è accesa contro di te e i tuoi due amici, perché non avete detto di me cose rette, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe.	7 When Yahweh had finished saying this to Job, he said to Eliphaz of Teman, 'I burn with anger against you and your two friends, for not having spoken correctly about me as my servant Job has done.
8 Ora prendete sette vitelli e sette montoni; andate dal mio servo Giobbe e offrite un olocausto per voi. Il mio servo Giobbe intercederà per voi, affinché per riguardo a lui io non punisca la vostra stoltezza, perché non avete parlato rettamente di me, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe".	8 So now find seven bul ocks and seven rams, and take them back with you to my servant Job andmake a burnt offering for yourselves, while Job, my servant, offers prayers for you. I shal show him favour andshall not inflict my displeasure on you for not having spoken about me correctly, as my servant Job has done.'
9 Andarono dunque, Elifaz il temanita, Bildad il suchita e Zofar il naamatita, e fecero come aveva ordinato loro il Signore. E il Signore ebbe riguardo di Giobbe.	9 Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath went away to do as Yahweh had ordered,and Yahweh listened to Job with favour.
10 Quando Giobbe intercedette per i suoi compagni, il Signore cambiò la sua sorte e gli rese il doppio di quanto aveva posseduto.	10 And Yahweh restored Job's condition, while Job was interceding for his friends. More than that,Yahweh gave him double what he had before.
11 Tutti i suoi fratelli, le sue sorelle, i suoi conoscenti di prima vennero a visitarlo e mangiarono con lui nella sua casa. Lo commiserarono e lo consolarono di tutto il male che il Signore gli aveva inviato e gli regalarono ognuno un pezzo di argento e un anello d'oro.	11 And al his brothers and all his sisters and al his friends of former times came to see him. Over dinnerin his house, they showed their sympathy and comforted him for al the evils Yahweh had inflicted on him. Eachof them gave him a silver coin, and each a gold ring.
12 Il Signore benedisse la nuova condizione di Giobbe più della prima. Possedette quattordicimila pecore e seimila cammelli, mille paia di buoi e mille asine.	12 Yahweh blessed Job's latter condition even more than his former one. He came to own fourteenthousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand she-donkeys.
13 Ebbe pure sette figli e tre figlie.	13 He had seven sons and three daughters;
14 Alla prima diede il nome di Colomba, alla seconda quello di Cassia, alla terza Fiala di stibio.	14 his first daughter he cal ed 'Turtledove', the second 'Cassia' and the third 'Mascara'.
15 In tutto il paese non c'erano donne così belle come le figlie di Giobbe; il loro padre le mise a parte dell'eredità insieme ai fratelli.	15 Throughout the land there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job. And their father gavethem inheritance rights like their brothers.
16 Giobbe visse dopo tutto questo ancora centoquarant'anni e vide i suoi figli e i figli dei suoi figli per quattro generazioni.	16 After this, Job lived for another one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and his children'schildren to the fourth generation.
17 Giobbe morì vecchio e sazio d'anni.	17 Then, old and ful of days, Job died.
